I wouldnt bother with those really mate, they wont do anything you cant do by hand. What is it you are trying to achieve? If you want to remove swirls/scratches/holograms etc then they are useles and you would need a proper machine polisher such as a rotary or a random orbital Porter Cable. If you are just trying to get a good finish you can 'hide' swirls with Autoglym Super Resin Polish which contains fillers. This is the best method for someone without a machine polisher. Apply the SRP with some sort of foam applicator for better results, working in a circular motion with some pressure and then work it up and down to fill in as many swirls as possible. Apply to the whole car and leave for about 10-15 minutes to dry and then buff it off. For even better result add a 2nd and even 3rd layer to fill as much as possible. Although the SRP does offer some protection it certanly wont last long and will just wash off the first time it rains so it needs sealing in. The best product to use over SRP is Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection which is a gloss sealant. Apply to the whole car using a foam applicator but leave this for atleast an hour to haze and harden and then buff off with microfibre cloth and again for better results and better protection add another layer applied the same way. This will give the car a very wet glossy look but also protect the paint for up to a few month with careful washes in between. You can also add some wax on top of the EGP to add even further protection. If you want to remove swirsl then you are best asking a professional to do it for you. Hope this helps Rob.

Alfa Romeo 156 / 147 GTA 3.2 V6 - Discuss!

I would much prefer a big blinging awesome sounding v6 motor especially a refined italian v6 motor over a 1.8T. Granted the 1.8T engine is superb but i just dont like small engines pushing loads of power, seems harsh! My mate has the 1.8T A3 and it sounds so dull! Plus you open the engine bay on the alfa and get greeted with a B-E-A-UTIFUL v6 engine, where as pop the hood on an S3 and you see a big plastic cover   -

I suppose you also have to think about the depreciation as alfas tend to lose money and never stop losing money. Well the older ones certainly did anyway. But then every car loses money, so you might as well lose money on a gorgeous car  The sound of the GTA is awesome! Definately worth getting just for that and the interiors alone  -
Blimey that interior is very 'corrado like' although a bit better imo 8) and VERY clean! What recaros have you got? Proper ones for the car or some aftermarket ones?
-
Nice one mate :D At the moment i can only do the odd weekends due to full time working and its just an on-the-side thing, but if someone was to have a couple of cars for me to do and let me know in advance i would book a few days off work in order to do them :)
-
Yeah know what you mean mate, its good to see what each step does and pictures just dont show it as some before pictures i have taken in the past make the car look great but in the metal looks terrible  I was amazed at how much cleaner the paint looked when i first used a clay bar and also amazed at how much dirt comes off the paint even after a thorough wash! Its also good to see how other products work like glazes, sealants and the different finishes from different waxes. Thats the part i most enjoy really. I am enjoying the machine polishing but it take so long and gets very tiring! But is worth it for the end results as the products you use after work best on fully prepped paint! I am doing a mates corrado in a couple of weeks which i have 'booked in' for a full paint correction detail which i am going to spread out over 2 days to get the best results. So i will see how i get on with that as well as post my pics and findings for everyone to see of course :D this will give me full confidence to start work on other peoples corrados because as of yet i havent done mine properly so dont know the best way to work on corrados yet! Then by all means if you are still interested we can sort something out :)

Yeah swirls are bloody annoying, but imo its worse when you get rid of them as its near impossible to stop inflicting more swirls when washing and so you just get more and more annoyed after every wash to discover more! But i suppose you are starting from fresh and so it wont look as bad as before, plus i wouldnt just get rid of swirls and leave it i would fully protect the finish after making it easier to maintain. I take quite a while to wash my car now, i pre-soak it with a thick foam using my karcher pressure washer and karcher foam lance, let it soak and then pressure rinse off to get rid of the majority of dirt. Then i cover it in foam again, rinse it then wash it using 2 buckets, a lambs wool mitt for upper half and a microfibre mitt for lower half, tailgate, wheels etc. Then pressure rinse again and dry it with a proper drying towel and use a detailing spray to help dry it better. But i still notice some swirls being left, they are not bad dont get me wrong but they are still being caused!

I dont know why you want me to come and detail your car mate as it looks minty mint in that pic and pics from stanford hall!! 8) Looking forward to seeing the new engine bay!

My mate received his brand spanking new subaru impreza wrx last week and the first thing i said after saying it looks good is "Your paint looks terrible!" holograms and swirls everywhere from where it was rushed to get done in time so they obviously whipped round with a buffer and washed it with sponges etc and being a black car has shown it up big time! I couldnt believe how bad brand new cars are! So anyway, i told him that i would be willing to sort it out for him and he didnt fancy me taking a machine polisher to it just yet so i said in that case i would just give it a good go over with some SRP to fill in as many swirls and holograms as possible to tone it down a bit and then protect it. So he agreed to that and came round on sunday afternoon. No before or during pics im afraid as it was originally going to be a quick job but ended up taking a bit longer and so didnt bother taking many pics. Process was spray wheels, arches, door/boot shuts, lower half of doors and tailgate with APC in the 5ltr pump sprayer and leave to soak for a bit. Then broke out the Karcher pw with karcher foam lance and foamed the whole car with a mix of cheapy tesco shampoo and Chemical Guys Maxi Suds which gave a nice thick foam, left to soak for about 10 minutes and then pressure rinsed off. Then washed the wheels just using warm soapy water and a wash mitt as they had not long been sprayed and werent particularly dirty anyway. Rinsed wheels and whole car again and then washed car with TBM using Zymol shampoo and a lambs wool mitt. Then dried using Last Touch and a Sonus Ultimate Drying Towel. I offered a clay at this point as i know new cars can still be dirty, but it were too bad with the wipe test so decided to leave it and go straight to polish. Gave it 2 coats of SRP applied with microfibre applicator pads worked in circular motions and then up and down and left to haze after applying it to the whole car. Then buffed off and re-applied. After the SRP a lot of the swirls were covered and the whole car looked much better! So to protect it i went for 2 coats of EGP left about an hour each coat to cure. The EGP gave the car a lovely wet finish and so decided to leave it like that and not apply a wax as the owner was happy with the finish and level of protection from the EGP. Then i polished the wheels with SRP and sealed with EGP. Polished glass with AG Glass Polish and just gave the plastics/rubbers a quick wipe with AG Vinyl and Rubber Care due to them being brand new and didnt need bringing back to life! And also tyres had already been treated by the dealers so didnt bother with them either. After pics: Needless to say my mate was very pleased with the result as he has been calling me anal because of the amount of work i put into cleaning my own car etc but now he takes it all back  And he will be making an order from clean your car very soon to start washing and caring for it himself as because he works for a car dealership he usually gets the valeters to give his car a quick wash but they use strong TFR for every wash and i told him that if he gets them to wash it all my hard work will be wasted! :D Watch this space for a full paint correction detail on a rather tasty BMW 318is at some point (if my mate actually lets me know a weekend to do it ), a full hand detail (same as scooby) on an EVO 8 FQ340 and a full paint correction on a very tasty and not shown off enough corrado vr from a member on the forum  Cheers, Rob.

Not my work on the GTA im afraid, just some guy from the detailing world forum (yes i visit detailing forums i know im a geek but who cares ) but that doesnt mean i couldnt do that standard of work myself   i love th interior! the seats look awesome 8)
