Hmmmmmm What can i say. THe G60 struggled. Apart from not having the car in gear at the lights  it was bloody hard work. Had me up to 3rd gear. I've been in his car and it doesn;t feel fast but fook me i could hardley keep up. Hmm i hate this, i feel there is somthing wrong with my car....... Maybe we can put it down to high ambient temps (30 C) and no FMIC. There was somthing a little concerning. After a bip of >70mph i stopped pulled over to smile because i had just won but it was short lived when i started to see smoke  Yep coming from my car. Had a look underneath and it seemed like it was coming from the front of the cat (engine end) looked like something was burning. It was smoke but not exhaust gases. Hmmm i'm worried. ANYWAYS......got to make the G60 faster New thread sorry Beavisjem

Hi there, he has the 2.5 16v. Its got big 18's on it so that should slow him down. Lots of things you have said are true, his speedo has stopped at 108000miles He has full cream leather but i think its a retrim. He paid 1400 for the car and its really nice. Paint needs some work. Not as nice as my C :) His is AUTO  I'll let him know that you know somone who can help him Anyways were are going to have a bt of a buzz about tonight. He wants to prove somthing in his new cosworth. Just hope the old G60 will hold its own :fadein: Wish me luck Beavisjem

Would you expect much more with a cnc head Beavisjem

I was giving the old G60 a good run and saw 132 oil. I did notice it was a little low on oil and i topped it up and it went back down to 120 ish at 70 ish mph Seems to be running ok.

Bottom end bearings don't sound too good, i know its not the cat heatsheild as i had that welded a couple of months ago. Errrrr so bottom end bearings how can i test......... "where's my wallet" It just sounds a bit ratterly when its floored at low revs, it might be there at high revs but the exhaust might be a bit loud to hear it
-
Don;t really know how to explain this. Occasionally i get a low down sound, like marbles ratterling around, coming from the engine when i floor it in 2nd or 3rd low down in the rev range, the revs don't need to be high. If i floor it at 2k i can somtimes hear this marbles roling around sound? :( Sometimes its not there at all. Engine is a 1991 G60 with 126000 on the clock. Don;t think its pinking. Always use good fuel, serviced etc. Anyone offer any insight Cheers

Oh yeah, i'm on standard supension so the 4x4 stance :( so i can just make it, i do however feel sorry for anyone with lowered cars. Supose you can take your time driving down the driveway probably only take you a few minutes to get to g-werks, by the time i have driven 3 hours to get there i just want to race down the drive to get my car done.

After the fuse check, make sure the wiring looms are ok that run from the door to the car. There is a small bit of foam, if missing the wires cut into the bodywork whenever you open or close the door. Then they earth out and the fuse blows when you use the window. Well thats what happened to me. Hope this helps
-
lol i wish. Doesn;t seem to be anyone round here into the whole supercharged thing. The positive side to going to g-werks is my can is nearly run in by the time i get home if i have any engine work done. All other repairs or servicing is done by me. And its good to get out of Norfolk occasionally, like a holiday

Errr yep  Like to do the 350mile round trip at least once a year, only problem is having enough work done on the car to make it worth while. At the moment its, FMIC and one of Darrens custom flowed heads. Hmm what other things could i get, toothed belt kit, mounts, smaller pulley ....
-
Not really that worried. Just need a reason to go to g-werks sooner
-
oh well must go visit g-werks. Can't have the merc win :) "goes off to justify engine purchases"
-
yeah i did, PM me your paypal addy. It was the cambelt not the ECU but i'll pay for the spare. Cheers

Sorry to pull another comparison thread but my G/F's little brother has just brought a Merc 190 cosworth (apparantly 204bhp stock) Now is my little corrado G60 going to get an arse whipping. I've got the standard 68mm pulley and chip. nothing else If he is going to take the mick i might have to go visit Darren sooner rather than later. Stuff is going on ebay as i type (i'm not kidding) Cheers Chris Beavis

Yeah the plug with red/black could the engine mounts have moved enough to shear the cable? Beavisjem
-
Just check this, my car wouldn;t start today so i poped the bonnet and noticed the switched live from the ignition to the starter had come off, its sheared out of the clip so there is no where for me to connect the cable. Can you buy the clips new Any ideas Beavisjem Sorry don;t mean to hijack the thread
-
Might be nothing like this but i was driving the g/f's Gti and the cambelt took 4 teeth off, the car wouldn;t start. I kept timing it and changing the igniton timing but nothing would happen. Spun the motor with sparks out and with a 19mm socket, as it came round 4 teeth were missing. New cambelt all good. Beavisjem

I cracked the friction plate because i didn;t line up the splines properly  But now the car wont start, where do i begin. The only thing i did while changing the clutch was remove the no1 spark plug to get TDC. Never owned a GTI just a golf Mk2 Driver don;t know where to begin looking for faults. I read one post that said you can melt the ECU if you start the car with an earth cable on the gearbox disconnected. Cheers Chris Beavis
