  1. Ok. So, lots of possibles then, thanks for all the suggestions folks. On list of possibles are: Ignition switch Load Reduction Relay Fuel Filter Fuel Pump Bad earth? Alternator? Battery? I reckon I'll maybe start with the cheaper options of Ignition Switch then Load Relay then Fuel Filter. Unless anyone has another idea?
  2. Yeah, Initially I had Coilpack issues & though thats what the problem was. I've now changed that & tested with the plant mister to make sure the new one is ok, which it is. The clicking is actually coming from the fusebox area & I think it's one of the relays. Why it's doing it though, I have no idea??
  3. I've never actually had the car stall on me, just an intermitent judder which I guess could be a splutter? Maybe I should get a fuel filter & see if that makes a difference?
  4. I guess that could be the problem? Would a dodgy fuel filter/pump make the car feel like it's dropped a cylinder? As far as I know the fuel pump hasn't been changed, but I've only had it a couple of months. I'll check though all the paperwork I got with the car when I get home.
  5. Bump... Anyone got any ideas?? I've had to revert back to the oil burning pug as the raddo is currently doing my head in :( Please help me fix the VR so I can actually enjoy driving again!!
  6. Yeah, I'm still getting a clicking noise from the fusebox area. Do you reckon it could be one of the other relays causing the problem? Now that I mention it, I forgot to add that the relay to the right of the ECU one (position 4) seemed really hot today. What does the relay in pos 4 do, and do you think it would cause the problems I'm having?
  7. I've now changed both the Fuel Pump & the ECU relays but I'm still having the same problems. Driving home tonight seemed to be a lot worse than driving to work this morning. I'm wondering if it's either due to the increase in electrical load or due to the wet roads?? Looking at some posts, I'm wondering if this could be alternator related, or maybe bad earthing points?? Anyone got any ideas, as my bank account is starting to struggle now... :( Cheers, Dogzyboy

    Coilpack?

Similar problems to me at the moment. I've now replaced the plugs, leads, coilpack & fuel pump relay. Next on the list is the ECU relay (advised it could be this just last night) but I've had to order one, which I'm picking up tomorrow. I get a click from the relays in the fusebox area when I'm getting the hesitancy/misfire problem, are you getting the same? It might be worth trying the ECU relay before the coilpack as it's £11 Vs £130.
  9. Mine's a 26 mile round trip in the VR. It would be shorter through the city centre, but at least I'm moving most of the time on the longer route!
  10. Thanks Crasher, I'll go and try to get one of those tomorrow. :) Cheers, Dogzyboy
  11. Hi folks. I'm having trouble with my VR being Lumpy/Hesitant/Stuttery. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a pattern to the problem. I've now replaced the plugs, leads & coilpack but the problem still remains. I've noticed that there is a clicking noise from the fusebox area when the stutter happens. I've tried to search on possible causes but haven't had much luck. Could it be that I have a problem with a relay or fuse, or maybe a bad earth? Has anyone heard of a similar problem? I've had it on VAG-COM & posted the results but nobody had heard of the fault I was getting. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I really cant afford to keep replacing parts at random! Thanks, Dogzyboy
  12. Thanks mate, I'll do that. I've got a lumpy idle (man that sounds weird!! ) so I reckon it needs done anyway!! Cheers.
  13. OK. Just been out & started my VR & it did the rev up to 2k thing but they didn't drop for a good 30 seconds. This only started happening the other day, yet it's been cold up here before this without any such problems. I'm thinking there could be something up with the automatic choke (as mentioned above)? Either that or the ISV (again suggested earlier in the thread)? Any ideas folks? Cheers.
  14. Maybe a third of what he's shelled out on it!?! :(
  15. I've become the complete opposite of a "Forumphobic" and become a Forum-aholic !!
  16. Funny you should mention that, mine did it yesterday, then again this morning. I was going to ask if this was normal too! :)
  17. I had a '97 Classic UK Turbo until I had to buy a house. Getting rid of it & switching to an oil burner was a nightmare!! I loved that car, the power, the grip & the sound it was awesome! In the 2 years, all I had to replace were the droplinks & the radiator, it had done just shy of 100k by the time I sold it. I've had the Raddo for 2 months & I've already had a coilpack, plugs, a wheel bearing, leads on the way & another wheel bearing soon too! Now I've got the VR, I have a passion for driving again. I would say the Impreza was an awesome car for going out & driving like a maniac, but it didn't half drink the juice!! I find the VR great for having a blast too but it seems much more refined & effortless, and most definitely a lot more "grown up", FAR less common & not Chav. Given the choice between them now I would choose the VR everytime. However, I'm very glad I have owned a Scooby & do not regret it for one minute. Just my 2 pence worth!!
  18. I would assume that would be conclusive dr_mat, however, I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to cars & dont even know what an injector looks like!! As a starting point (and something I could manage to test), do you reckon maybe swapping over the 2nd & 5th HT leads round might help me decide if they are the problem? Obviously switching them over on the coilpack too. :?
  19. Right, after reading through hundreds of posts, I think it's got to be either duff HT leads or a dodgy 5th injector. Anyone?
  20. Update on the situation. I've now replaced the faulty Coilpack and changed the plugs. I've just run a VAG-COM scan & I'm still getting the "01253 - Fuel Injector for Cylinder 5 (N83) 63-10 - Temperature Shut-Down - Intermittent" fault coming up. Whilst replacing the plugs I noticed that the lead on Cylinder 5 was a bit stiff. Could it be that this lead is duff & I need to replace them? Does anyone have any idea what this fault (01253) means? Thanks in advance. Dogzyboy
  21. Thanks for the comments folks. Just need to start saving some cash for some minor mods now!
  22. I've been usin my heated seats for the last couiple of weeks as it's been baltic here! If I crank them up to 5, I would say that they are pretty warm (ie definitely noticeable) within 5 mins. I can't comment on the drain they make on the battery though as I've not tried it. Hope that helps a bit? Edit: Mine aren't however Recaros, so that might be of no use whatsover....
  23. I tried to tell her that it's not sad to take pics, it just shows that I'm passionate about the car! I think I was on a losing streak no matter what I said though!! The badges on the back are indeed the wrong way round! Some dosy dealership obviously had trouble with the instructions!! I toyed with the idea of putting them right, but as someone else mentioned, it makes it even more original!! I checked the authenticity with VW before I bought it as I had wondered about it too! They assure me that it's 100% genuine Storm! Thanks for the comments. Still in the honeymoon period with the Raddo. I look forward to having to drive these days, I hope that feeling doesn't go away as it's awesome! All at a cost though, I've definitely felt the pinch already!!
  24. Finally got round to taking some pics. Not the best due to being taken on my phone, but they'll do until I get some proper ones!! The missus seems to think I'm sad for taking photos of the car, can't think why?!?!
  25. Must be the echo.....echo.....echo....
