  1. Been thinking of a whole new socket set actually!.... must resist.... :)
  2. 10mm eh. Ok, cheers folks, will get to Halfords tomorrow then.
  3. Hi folks. I need to change the plugs on my VR but I dont have an appropriate socket to do so. I already have the lead removal tool, but I'm looking to buy a thin walled socket, I just don't know what size I need for the VR? Is it 14mm or 16mm? Any ideas where I can get a decent tool for the job? Cheers Dogzyboy PS Tried searching but found nothing.

    window rubbers

WHAT??? I sold them for a fiver each. :( Ive got the pass side seal aroundthe outside of the door if ur intersted, and the driverside seal aswell, although ive had interst already, but no money recieved as fo yet. Khurrado: I take it you are forgetting that I've already paid you for the passenger side window seal that you should have already posted by now then???
  5. To test: When it gets dark, get the engine warm & whilst running, use a plant mister to lightly spray water over the coilpack & leads. If either the leads or the coilpack are faulty, you should see arcing (sparks) in the area you've sprayed. I did this last night & saw sparks on the outside of my coilpack, confirming to me that it's knackered. The cheapest I've seen is a Beru one on vwspares.co.uk for £133 inc VAT & delivery. I'm going to order one soon.
  6. A bit of an update on the situation: Cleared the codes & went for a drive & then re-scanned. No faults this time, might have had something to do with having the engine running this time too! Anyway, still got the stutter in wet weather so I did the plant mister test tonight, it's confirmed that my coilpack is shot. Looks like I'll have to save up for that one & hide it from the missus! I've seen this Beru one: http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id=204 It seems to be the cheapest I can find, does anyone know of one cheaper elsewhere? Thanks for all the help so far. :) Dogzyboy
  7. Sounds like the coilpack to me. Having similar problems myself just now. I did the Plant Mister test today (spray the coilpack with the mister & look for sparks / arcing) & it's confirmed that my coilpack is shot. If you do a search on the topic you should find tons of similar posts.
  8. I think the one you mentioned just outside Bonnyrigg might be DH Autosprayers. I read somewhere that they are meant to be quite good. Maybe I'll have to take a trip along and see what they say. Another I've heard mentioned is PFP Coachworks in Newtongrange, though again I dont know a lot about them. A mate is looking to use Altered Image in a couple of weeks, reckon it's going to cost him £1200 for a full respray, he'll be without this car for 2 weeks though... Any opinions anyone may have, good or bad they'd be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  9. BUMP (as it's now hiding in the Suppliers Section!?!).....
  10. Hi folks, I've got a couple of small patches of rust that I want to get done properly. I'm therefore on the lookout for a decent yet fairly cheap bodyshop in the Edinburgh area. I am, however, aware that a lot of the time you get what you pay for, but has anyone got any recommendations? A mate just got his Golf back but is very disappointed with the quality of finish, so he's going to have to take it back in. I would like to avoid the same problems. I know the garage at Wallyford is meant to do (or at least did) a fantastic job, but, from what I've heard, they are probably out of my price range. Cheers in advance. Dogzyboy
  11. Thought it might be something like that!! :) I'll give it a bash tomorrow & report back. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks for the replies. Yeah, thats pretty much the symptoms I've got & the coilpack was my original diagnosis. It was just after plugging it into VAG-COM and getting the errors above, I started to wonder if it might be the Cam Position Sensor? I think I'll get me a plant mister this weekend & check that out, it has definitely got a lot worse this week as the weather has deteriorated. Dumb question alert  What exactly is "Arcing"? Just so I know what to look for. Cheers.
  13. Hi folks. Been having idling, misfiring, sluggishness problems with my VR recently. I've just done a scan with VAG-Com and it's come up with the following faults: 01253 - Fuel Injector for Cylinder 5 (N83) 63-10 - Temperature Shut-Down - Intermittent 00515 Now, not knowing anything about cars at all, but having read tons of posts on here (cheers guys) is the first fault (01253) likely a problem with the Coilpack? Also, from what I've read, is the second fault likely to be the Crank Sensor? Is it possible that I only have 1 fault (maybe just the coilpack) & it's kicking up 2 errors for it? Thanks for your help. Dogzyboy
  14. Jenks, I'm in Dalkeith mate, though I was Loanhead tonight as it happens! Only had the Raddo about a month now, absolutely loving it :D I'll keep an eye out for future meets, not sure if the missus will give me release time for that though!!?!!
  15. I'm over near Edinburgh and it's the same here. I've only seen 2 around, one of which was yesterday!! Thats part of the reason I wanted one in the first place though!!
  16. Got mine through the post today, thanks mate. :)
  17. I've got the laptop part. I'll take a looky on ebay tonight & see if I can find a suitable lead. It's probably worth me just downloading the free version of the software for now, then, if there are faults, I can just register. Thanks for the help. Cheers, Doug
  18. Yup, looks like Glasgow is the closest place with someone willing to help. Was hoping to avoid a 130 mile round trip by finding someone closer.
  19. Apologies for starting a new thread, I just couldn't see anyone based in the Edinburgh area on the pages I read... I guess I'll have to search all 11 then...
  20. Hi folks, Just picked up my VR (Storm) on Saturday, I’m absolutely loving it. However, after reading up on the Knowledge Base, I think I might need an ECU reset & Basic Settings procedure carried out, due to a slightly jerky throttle. Is there anyone in the Edinburgh with VAG-COM that might be able to come & help me out with the Basic Settings procedure? OR, will I have to go & buy a ca ble & the software? Thanks, Doug

    VR6 Badges

Good stuff, cheers guys, just what I was wanting to hear. Now I just need to actually buy the car!!

    VR6 Badges

Sorry to hijack here, but does anyone know if the "VR6" and "Storm" badges are pinned, or just stuck down? Looking to buy a car where both badges are in the wrong place, I would want to move them to the correct positioning. And before you ask, it is a genuine Storm!!
