  1. no worries Karl, glad it helped! :) did you get the alternator sorted?, as i still have a 70A kicking around your welcome too have Alex.
  2. cant comment on the Schimmel item as i'm not familiar with it, but i'm using a Fidanza (courtesy) of Gripforce & i'm very happy with it, service was absolutely spot on too, ordered on the saturday afternoon and turned up at work on the following Thursday! :)
  3. thats a good price Karl :) , look like good value for money! does the company in Leeds have a website / link as i might try these too when mine need replacing (not for a bit yet).
  4. Looks very nice indeed Rob! another cracking job :)
  5. not 100% sure but i think the Golf VR did have a more 'restrictive' inlet manifold, dare say someone else will be along in a bit to clarify this!
  6. The Silkolene Fuchs Pro S 10w 50 is very very good imo, i've used it for about 2 years now and the car runs & pulls a lot more smoothly on it and there's less engine noise! :)
  7. they are 18's mate 18x8" BBS RC's, seems to ride very nicely on them not too crashy at all! drop wise she's running H&R Coilies but i'm not 100% sure what the drop is as they were put on by the previous owner, its actually a bit too low for my liking and i'm having them dialed back up a bit, rear seems a bit lower than the front on mine! The sumps are only ally on them and its too easy to damage them so i'm thinking a bit of added height might save on some big bills later. Yep there's a spoiler too, its basically got the full VAG Anniversary kit
  8. very nice looking example mate :) , i bought one a few months ago for work / daily driver and they're lovely, with a few nice mods can be made very interesting too! heres a couple of pics of mine after 'Herisites' had worked his magic on it :D
  9. Hi fla, i don't get round that side of the M25 too often mate as i'm mainly in central london for work etc, but the cams are'nt going anywhere & i'll keep hold of them for you if they'll help, alternatively if you have another friend or family member who lives a bit nearer to me & can pick them up, pm me & we'll sort something out! regards Alex
  10. p.s. Ah now that drive looks familiar Automotive Porn indeed.....told ya he was a complete car nut! worth also mentioning that both Keith & his wife were very very pleased with what you did to the Z4 Rob, Keith told me on the following monday how you'd shown him in the garage the differences in the paintwork as you were working around it! Think they were quite shocked & impressed at the transformation! Guess what he's invested in some of Tim's products too! :) Alex.
  11. Hi Rob, apoligies but only just caught up with this thread, gotta say you did a superb job with the 4Mo matey a few months ago, as you quite rightly said mechanically she's fine but the paintwork badly needed some tlc (downside of buying a car from someone in London), luckily we're moving at work over x-mas too so the fumes from the paintshop vent will be no more! I've stopped parking near the damn vent flu too now i've worked out what the hell it was checking out! :) The aim was to get plenty of winter protection on the car which you did in spades :D mate! the sodding gritters around here go mental ever year and it was nice to know the paintwork was all protected ready for the worst winter could throw at her (just in time too with the weather we've had in the last 2 weeks)! I've been making a bit more of an effort with here since then too, tried the website you suggested 'cleanyourcar' and Tim's a really nice helpfull bloke, bought some Snowfoam, Collinite 476's, various Mitts & drying towels and can honestly say bar one weekend its been cleaned every weekend since then. Gave it a top-up coat of Collinte 2 weeks ago (think you we're doing Jon's Beemer at the same time strangely enough)...bit to cold to be waxing outdoors really  for me but i persevered on! Anyway 2 months on the 4Mo still lookings great, several other friends have commented on what a good job you did so i'm very happy still, suspect i'll probably make a another booking late spring / early summer 08 for a 'silver service'! take it easy mate Alex p.s. can't seem to see the pics in your post i quoted is this just my Net settings or are the pics / links not there now?
  12. ditto, i bought a complete gearbox plus Quaife plus an SMIC off him a while ago and he went out of his way to help me!
  13. Hi fla, i've got a set of stock VR cams that you'd be welcome to for free if they help, they we're removed by G-Werks about 9 months ago when they fitted my 268's, the cams had about 102K on them before they came out & ran fine! I'm not a million miles away from you in Kent (about 10 miles from the Darford crossing) so drop me a pm if i can help!
  14. Really good to meet you the other day Paul, many thanks for the new interior (can't wait to rip out my old one), your car's a beast mate! Can see an awfull lot of hard works gone into it and it really shows, hell of an engine in a hell of a car! It's certainly kicked me up the arse to do some more on mine!
  15. many thanks to Steve @ for sorting me out a very nice spare VR head! :)
  16. bought mine back in March 2002 so a very enjoyable 5 & 1/2 years so far :D , she's not my daily driver anymore (more for track day fun now) but i've no plans to sell her!
  17. I've got the G-Werks top mounts too and they're excellent, give Darren a call (he's fitting my coilies too)!
  18. No problem glad it was of some help, think Will (double-6's) just decided he wanted a change so he's gone for an Alfa 156 3.2 GTA now and broken his Rado (most of the performance parts are still rattling round on the forum though where a lot of the members on here snapped them up), i'm 100% sure he did'nt have any issues with the suspension other than its hard as hell, but he always loved the handling aspects that it gave the car! can't wait to get them fitted i'll let you know how it goes as soon as they're on! :) :)
  19. you could always drop double-6s on here a pm as he used to run the same Coilies on his VR Rado, i'm having his old set fitted to mine very very shortly i'm running std VAG top-mounts & bushes all round but they're less than 3000 miles old so i can let you know in a few weeks how it all works together! regards Alex.
  20. I use Fuchs Silkolene Pro 10w50 as it gives good protection at high engine temps! Opie Oils (Oilman) on here sell it.
  21. Many thanks both John & Craigowl, just tried the coat hanger trick and it worked like a charm...brilliant!!! :D
  22. Many thanks Craigowl :) i'll give it a try in the morning & report back!
  23. Hi John, cheers for the info i'll give that a try in the morning, i've just borrowed a task light off my neighbour. just want to make sure i've got this 100% right once i've hooked up the loops should i try and pull them towards the centre of where the grill would normally sit, also daft question maybe but can you release them one at a time or do you have to do both together? Alex
  24. following on from a very old thread i'm in this same position at the mo, i.e. bonnet is jammed shut and the cable is connected to sod all unfortunately! :( Luckily the front of the car was still half stripped down from some other work i've been doing so at the mo the grill & bumper are both off, i've just about managed to get the plastic cowling thats down the passenger side of the rad un-bolted. If i feel up under the slam panel i think i can feel the 2 loops of steel (feels like a hook of some kind on either side) that i need to release but after a bit of poking about with a screw-driver i'm not having much luck. Is there some technique to this is missing i.e. do you have to pull the loops forward / down or back etc as can't quite figure out what i'm doing wrong!
