  1. no worries mate, they are very good brakes and i do honestly think they were worth the investment (have saved my skin a couple of times already), keep an eye out on the bay for new calipers as they do pop up from time to time and it helped me shave a few hundred squid off the price of a full kit! re: the 17x7.5 BBS's i'm not 100% sure tbh, the calipers on those Brembo's are quite chunky and it really limits your choice of wheels, your 17's will clear the 323mm discs no problem, the tricky bit is the distance between the back of you wheel spokes and the calipers, i think from memory the GT Juniors need between 45-51mm clearance (if you measure out from you hub face to the back of your spokes) i.e. keeping the tape flat on the horizontal plane (i'm running 17x8" OZ Racing Superturismo GT's which literally just about clear). Perhaps worth asking Corozin on here as he's got more experience with them on different VR's & wheels. This Brembo website might help you a bit as there's an electronic catalogue of their products against most VAG models:- http://www.brembo.com/ENG/HighPerforman ... Catalogue/ If you select 'VW' then in model 'Golf GTI, 1.8T, VR6 Front' this is the closest option i could find to the Corrado VR (i.e. only lists the Corrado G60 specifically), there's some very handy diagrams that give you clearance guides. I'll have a look on the bay for that engine bay cleaner too as sounds interesting!
  2. cheers ears :) , i just sat down and worked out exactly what i needed and ordered them all up on the web, managed to find proper jubilees in stainless steel so should do the trick nicely! Fitting a Mocal oil cooler too so think i'll do the oil pipes as well to make sure. That Autoglym stuff certainly looks like it does the job my engine bays still got mud splatters in it from the carparks at Glastonbury and The Glades so needs attention!
  3. thats the ones Craigowl! by the way i can't believe how clean your engine bay looks, thats cracking.....can i come and eat my dinner of it! :) p.s. did you use jubilee's to fix your Samco's in place (looks like it), as was going to get some nice stainless steel ones where the old VAG spring clips are so scabby looking now.
  4. no worries, the Brembo's are:- Brembo GT Juniors with std Brembo pads - these were about £400 brand new from e-bay (still in the VAG boxes) Carriers & High Tensile steel bolts - £90 (£45 a side) 323x28mm ATE grooved discs - £258 (£129 a side) C&R hoses for the links to the new calipers - bout £50 (i think) Basically i found the Brembo calipers on e-bay and then hunted around for somewhere to get some decent discs & carriers, and ended up giving Bill at Badger5.co.uk a call, he sorted out the discs & carriers (recomended grooved rather than drilled to avoid the discs cracking), i'd highly recomend him as the quality of the parts was spot on! The whole lot was fitted by G-werks, i'm not too sure what the labour was as had some other stuff done at the same time, but would'nt have throught more than a couple of hours. I think last time i checked Bill does the complete kits (calipers, discs, carriers, hoses) on his website for the VR for about £945 but this just comes with the plain (non-grooved) discs. Well worth doing though as they're terrific brakes!
  5. Hi, i've literally just started fitting mine last weekend (not finished yet as i'm changing the Rad and a load other stuff), i hav'nt got a pic of mine laid out (as they're all on the car now), but if you pm me a pic of yours i'll try to figure out which one your missing. To be fair 2 out of the 7 hoses i was'nt 100% sure what to do with and ended up fitting them on the intake side of things as they seemed to match the existing VAG breather hoses.
  6. Ok mate, i'll dig my digital camera out & pm you a pic just to make sure give me an hour or so, had a look at the hose last night though and it still in very good condition, like i said before was changed not so long ago, and she's not done much in the way of mileage since then.
  7. i might be able to help you here as i've just changed all my VAG water hoses for Samco's (literally in the process of swapping them over now) so have all my VAG ones coming spare, is it the hose that runs to the bulkhead with a smaller hose Tee'ing off it? as this went on mine 2 years ago and i had to change it as well.
  8. looks nasty dude....must admit though i'm curious to know whats going on with the cucumber too!

    What Oil

don't forget you'll be wanting to upgrade your plugs once the Rotrex goes on Rob, probably worth asking Martin what he recomends!

    What Oil

i get mine from a shop on the bay called RPM Motorsport Rob, he sells various tuning bits and bobs and does most of the Fuchs oil range, this is a link to one of the ad's for the Silky 10w 50:- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=003 this is the shop itself:- http://stores.ebay.co.uk/RPM-Motorsport you don't have to buy via the bay either, his premises are in 'Ware Hertfordshire', so i usually just ring them up direct or drive over once a year & get a couple of 5 litre tubs, the stuff is'nt cheap but it definitely helps protect your engine so i think its a sound investment, found i had lower oil temps using it and the engine just seems quieter & happier in general. Another bonus is its 100% fully synthetic as opposed to a part synthetic and gives very very good protection at higher engine temps. If you do ring up ask for Lee, he's very helpfull & if i remember rightly can post 2 tubs for the same price as 1, like i said mate not cheap but if it saves you serious re-build costs later on its worth it.

    What Oil

perhaps worth thinking about Fuchs Silkolene Pro-Race 10w 50 (as previously mentioned in this thread) as gives our older lumps very good protection in general, i've found mine to be a lot quieter (and generally happier) in the year i've been using it plus the head still looks to be in pretty good condition!
  12. lovely & compact those Rotrex's though eah, smaller than the alternator! Ian's probably right Rob, my kit came with 1litre of SX100 which at 80 euros plus VAT is'nt cheap but its better to run it on the correct stuff at the end of the day, the oil coolers a nice addition but not necessary until you go past 300bhp but certainly won't hurt it. That small black inline lump in your oil lines though is essential, its the primer for the oil system (did'nt get one with my charger when i picked it put unfortunatley and had to source elsewhere) the C30 series does'nt need it but our SP series chargers do. Am still trying to find the digital version of that SP series PDF manual on my bloody hard drive but if i can't i'll scan the print-out i've got already & pm it to you next week.
  13. ah right apoligies....i'd try him anyway mate as i'm sure he'll be able to source some for you!
  14. Try Badger5.co.uk (phone numbers on the website), Bill sells some very good grooved 323x28mm ATE discs, quality stuff & good stopping power!

    My 1st C

looks like a very nice std C mate, always been one of my favourite colours too! the zorst is a little stange, as said earlier looks too far in and the tip looks too round (rather than oval), nothing a nice aftermarket setup can't sort though!
  16. yeah its like he's on the limit all the time, got that M3 by the throat & giving it a good shake! :) funny just watched that Exige vid...would love to take one of those for a spin, love the way early on when the Exige & GT3 are just starting to battle it out the other white Porsche i front of them both just bangs on the anchors at the top of the hill, can almost hear him thinking 'fook this i'll let these 2 get on with it!' . All the way thru the corners though the dude in the Exige is just all over the GT3's bumper, wicked stuff!
  17. Mine's with Flux too Marcus and probably will remain so when the Rotrex goes on, think they wanted to tap me up for another £120 when i enquired but i've got all the other Mods declared already. Have heard they can be slow to pay out god forbid the worst should ever happen, but i wrote out a detailed schedule of all my Mods with costs / dates etc and faxed it back along with their std declaration form (kept the fax receipt). Hopefully stops them being able to wriggle out of anything later!
  18. BMC CDA gets my vote mate (definitely made mine a bit sharper on the throttle), but put the cold air feed on if you don't want it to be too noisy!
  19. what year was the estate that your Moonroof can from Neil if you don't mind me asking? i'm not too happy with try to bodge the install of this one so might just ditch it and go hunting again for one from an estate. Did contemplate getting a new seal for it but think this might be just throwing good money after bad. Shame cause other than the slight leak does look the dogs.
  20. think mine came from a Passat saloon but i did drop the whole unit in bar the motor which i had to switch for my old Rado one as the Passat one did'nt have the right connections for the power etc (mines an early VR).
  21. Ok after some searching i'm resurrecting an old thread, been trying to fit my Passat Moonroof this afternoon, stripped all the bits & bobs (visors , seat belts etc), got the A.B & C pillar trims off ok and managed to remove the old roof without too much trouble! Got the moonroof in an bolted up but there's a slight gap 0.5-1mm between the seal around the edge at the back and the roof, tested it with a watering can before i put my trim back in & went for spin round the block and had water dripping from several points, like Andy i've checked the gutters are clear etc and am inclined to think its just down to fitment. I remember reading once in an old thread that you had to pack / space some of the bolts with washers to get the roof lined up properly, has anyone else done this? Also is it worth cutting off the 2 locating lugs so i can get some more play out of the roof. The leaks just pissing me off though as otherwise it looks great!
  22. hmmmm negative feedback time me thinks!
  23. for what its worth i can highly recomend the Optima batteries, i picked up a brand new (still sealed) blue top off the bay last year and its great, never lets me down and you could drive the VR down the road on the starter, not cheap but well worth the money.
  24. Quick thanks to Blue-Joe for sorting me out a very nice set of Audioscape doorpods, very well packaged too! cheers ears!
