Worst thing some has said about ur Corrado
jonnyboyo replied to CorradoDriver's topic in General Car Chat
Why isn'tmy girl like that?!!!!! The worst thing someone said bout my car was "Its a bit thin aint it" Refering to its lack of width apparantly. 2nd time was when i was having new tyres fitted when 1 of the fitters said "They're rare these aren't they"? He turned to his work mate and duly explained the auto spoiler, to which his mate said "I'll give you a fiver for it". I wouldnt have minded if it was a scruffy un. Cheeky git. -
Many thanks for all your responses. Sound and informative advice as usual :)
-
Awesome!! Sounds do-able to me. One final question. How much are the sensors and what are they called?....Ok, that was 2 questions :)
-
Is taking the cluster apart a fiddly job? And will it look like ive been messing with the clocks as if ive had a go at trying to clock it? Apologies for all the questions guys.
-
Is this spaceship the wrong one for the MFA then? How easy is it to get to the sensor behind the instrument cluster?? Cheers.

Hi all, does the VAC switch (the little effort next to the airbox) need any special tools to remove or setting up once changed? Or can i change it myself with zero grief?!! I want my MPG to work on the MAF and managed to pick a VAC switch up cheap! Many thanks :) Forgot to say, my car is a 1990 G reg 1.8 16v. Cheers.

Well, i removed the plastic roof strip thingies today and i can honestly say dont't bother!! There are no holes or channels etc for water to go as Jim stated. They did come off incredibly easy tho. It may be worth a removing them in case there is rot under there, but i doubt there will be as my car is a 1990 and underneath was spotless despite being soaking wet and an obvious water trap. For your info, i could move my strips back and fore which is prob why they came out so easily, so if yours seem stiff or wont budge then i wouldn't risk breaking them. I used a wide wallpaper scraper to lift them up. Hope this helps :)

Yeah i know what you mean bout the guage not moving for ages when on a full tank, but compared to my Celica GT4 i recently flogged, the mileage i'm getting from my ickle Rado is wicked :)
-
Yeah its a 16v. Can i check & fix the vac pipe and/or sensor from within the engine bay or do i need to get behind the instrument cluster? Stupid question number 2 What is ETKA?
-
Any info will be greatly appreciated. The mpg function on my MFA always reads 99.9. I've tried zeroing it on numbers 1 and 2 but the reading still jumps to 99.9. The rest of the MFA works fine (albeit with the top half of the digits dimming occasionally) and i get very good fuel economy. It would just be nice if this function was working as the rest are. Many thanks in advance.

Not sure what my valver averages ( G reg with 118,000 miles ) but it has awesome economy! On a run, all motorway, i can do 215 miles on less than half a tank. Its good round town too.
-
Yeah you will defo need a cat to pass MOT. And DanVW was right with the Aug 92 info. There is another issue tho. This being the traffic cops doing spot checks on emmisions at the roadside. Although i believe these to be very rare and certainly wouldnt put me off removing my cat, if i had one!

The government used to stump up half the cost of an LPG conversion for anyone wishing to convert? I'm not sure this is still the case as it was a few years ago. Would be nics tho!! :) And on the "Corrados are to old to be a daily driver", nah!! Go for it. Mine is 16yrs old with 118,000 miles and i drive it everywhere. Did 880miles in it last week, nae worries. I own a 22yr old RS Turbo too (blasphemy!) which i drove everyday (before storing it) including 430 mile round trips to Cardiff and Northwest on many occasions.
-
Looks like you got yourself a carbon copy of my G reg valver!! My oil pressure alarm goes off now and again and the top half of my MFA is faint at times too. I removed the undertray under the steering wheel yesterday to run an RCA cable and all looked nice and dry round the relays/fuses. I've just driven 880 miles this week with no probs but any info on sorting these 2 faults would be awesome :)
-
Sounds awesome. Not many 1 owner low milers left now. Got standard wheels on mine which i think will look cool in a retro kinda way when refurbished. Then maybe a subtle drop of 20mm to reduce the arch gap and away i go lol!! Anyway, i digress of topic :) Happy polishing and motoring!

Welcome to the club :) What Corrado are you running?
-
Yeah nae worries mate. When i eventually get round to having a go at tracing it i will let you no what i find. After i've replaced my door card membranes first tho!!

Urgent advice - Rear parcel shelf - mounting 6x9's
jonnyboyo replied to Jay2's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
I would always save the oem shelf if it hadn't been butchered just to preserve it. Best solution is a stealth shelf. Essential for sound quality as they help improve the bass extention of the speakers, acting as a baffle. But most importantly, they hide your 6x9's from thieving little s**ts, coz they're screwed underneath out of sight and the shelf is made to look like the original. I just got a 3 1/4 inch thick piece of MDF from a builders merchants for £8, drew round the oem shelf, cut it out with a jigsaw, smoothed edges with sandpaper then covered with acoustic cloth bought from a car hi-fi shop for £10.....total cost £18 and really makes a difference to the bass the speakers punt out. The shelf is VERY heavy, as are the 6x9's coz they have mahoosive magnets but i have had no probs with the shelf supoorts creaking or cracking. The only downside is that i cannot use the shelf straps as the shelf is to heavy. -
I can empathise with you there mate!! I don't think Corrados suit loud exhausts, their too classy a coupe for that. Its never a good thing driving round town sounding like Saxo's and Corsa's lol!!
-
My G reg 1.8 valver crunches too (117,000miles, VAGFSH, 2 owners) unless i select it v-e-e-e-ery slowly lol!! Plenty of positive replies here to ease my "oh no, i've bought a lemon" worries ;)
-
You could be right there. Its got a full VAG history up until the last 3, which were done by a VW/Audi specialist. The car is currently reading 117,000 miles. Its MOT time end of month so i reckon a fluid change will be in order just in case.
-
Excellent!!....I may very well take you up on that soon. I topped the fluid up today ( i no, i no, your not supposed to just top it up!) and the whining has stopped with no fluid loss.....YET. I'll take it on a run soon to see if it starts again coz somethin tells me i aint gonna be this lucky. If the noise returns i'd be grateful if we could attack it with some spanners :) Cheers mate 8)
-
thanks for the reply mate. Nothings ever simple is it
-
Hi all. Your vast knowledge is required once more :) Power steering fluid is oozing from the red cap on the reservoir in a bubbly fashion, and the whining noise made when you turn the wheels when not driving is constant now...Is this just a simple case of replacing the cap or is my p/steering pump on its way out? Many thanks.
