I'm in the same boat to. Unfortunately it comes with the teritory living in a busy terraced street, specially one that people use all the time to park in and go shopping in the town. Unless your fortunate enough to have a drive/garage and have access to a nice big works carpark theres prob nowt much that can be done :(

As dinkus said, prices seem to pick up spring/summer so i'd put it up for sale for top dollar if its a gud n' and see how you go. If your not desperate to sell you can bide your time untill a buyer comes along.

My g/f will be learning to drive this yr, she's 39 and only had a handful of lessons in her 20's. Said i'd put her on my insurance so i could teach her to drive, WTF!!!! I'll may regret it, but knowing that she isn't a drinker my cunning plan for the future is free taxi's lol!!!!

Mine does that too. It also buzzes when the ignition is on without the engine fired.

Stoopid qustion alert, but where exctly is this mount in the engine bay?? I can't tell from the piccy. Bit worried now coz the big round engine mount to the right hand side of the oil filter needs replacing as it has loads of play in it.

According to the technical specs for both models in the knowledge base at the top of the screen, the 2.0 is slower than the 1.8. Not sure how this can be because the 2.0 has exactly thr same BHP and a decent wedge more torque. Its maybe down to the fact that the 2.0 litres have catalytic converters and the 1.8's don't. Anywho, here are the specs for both models :- 1.8 16v 136bhp @ 6300rpm 119lb/ft of torque @ 4800rpm Top speed 131mph 0-60 8.7 seconds 2.0 16v 136bhp @ 5800rpm 132lb/ft of torque @ 4400rpm Top speed 126mph 0-60 10.2 seconds Hope this is of some use. I've never driven a 2.0 so cannot comment on how they differ from a 1.8. Best bet is to test drive both and get a feel for them. I can't see how the 2.0 will be any slower than the 1.8 with 13lb/ft of torque more and the same 136bhp. The only thing i can comment on is my 1.8 valver and the other 2 i have driven. They don't tend to do an awful lot below the 4000rpm mark, you have to fairly give it some if you want to shove a bit. IMO thats due to the woeful 119lb/ft of torque. Which is why i'd like to drive a 2.0 with that extra dose of torque. Besides, you could always take the cat off to boost the performance figures :) Good luck and happy hunting.

My 1800cc (carb) Rocco used to do get a bit of white gunky stuff on the dipstick. My mechanic said it was coz i was only doing short journeys to work. I took the car on a long motorway journey (215 miles) and hey presto, zero white gunk!!

Top advice as usual chaps, many thanks. I will defo go with the snorkel removal & K&N combo. Must confess i had no knowledge of this mod. So glad i put this thread on :D I wasn't overly keen on swiss cheesing my box (ooooooh maaaaatron) which is why i bought an excellent unbutchered one off fleabay for £20 just in case the drilling wasn't to my liking. Thanks all
-
I'm contemplating butchering my airbox by drilling it as lots of peeps seem to have done. could anyone tell me:- 1) Where do i drill? (piccies would be cool) 2) How many holes should i drill? 3) Is it worth doing? I would also fit a K&N filter whilst i was at it. I'm not expecting huge gains obviously, but a bit more responsiveness would be cool and more of a throaty induction noise would be welcome as 1.8 valvers aren't the sweetest sounding motors!!

A recent test in Banzai (when i had my GT4) did a controlled petrol test on Shell Optimax 98 RON (before it changed to V-Power 99), BP Ultimate, tesco 99 RON and standard unleaded. Although Tesco's 99 had the highest RON number, it was with running the Optimax that they could advance the timing more before knocking occured. The most expensive of the fuels tested but was the best. The tests were conducted fairly by draining and flushing the tanks before every fuel swap. In fairness to Tesco's 99, it was highly praised too and if my memory serves me correctly it performed at least as good as BP Ultimate if not better, and MUCH cheaper.

MR SANDS- It sounds as though you have a good gig there. I don't know why inner city teachers put themselves through it. In a way i suppose its the same as me opting to work in a big city where crime is rife and many of the "customers" are nasty, rude and violent etc. If you can work the city and the inner city schools, then working anywhere else will be a doddle. I'll be looking for a nice little number Heartbeat stylee in the near future!! MAVE- It was a measure i didn't really want take, but at least my RS is safe from thieving scumbags tucked away in a garage. On the bright side though, if i hadn't have done so i would still be driving it and would never have bought a Corrado :D -

MAVE-- thats exactly the reason i didn't bring my mint low miler Series 1 RS Turbo to Cardiff when i moved here. It wouldn't have lasted a week. Storage back up North was the only solution :( -

MR SANDS- you are so correct. It seems all public sector workers get a raw deal. I feel for the nurses. Their pay nowhere near reflects the outstanding work they do. Unfortunately i am unfamiliar with pay & conditions for teachers, but with the "yoof" of today and their lack of respect for anything and anyone, i'd bet money it isn't enough. I doff my cap to all nurses & teachers :notworthy: -
I had a restored to factory look A reg mk1 bout 4yrs back. They looked really cool (and still do) but rusted like fook man haha!!! I even blessed it with a personal plate A3 GTE. I've just chucked this plate on my C for no reason i can fathom. But that Ebay monstrosity is goddam AWFUL. I flogged my mk1 for a grand. Why wasn't i aware of Ebay 4yrs ago lol!!!!!!!

They should fail the MOT if still stuck on when being MOT'D. And on the "rozzers get to keep all the money from fines" front, we don't. Most forces are on their asses when it comes to their funding and we can only dream of keeping all the revinue from traffic fines. I agree with the brightness/line of vision that these stupid sat-nav efforts introduce though. Why is it that you see the same cars everyday going to the same place of work day in, day out and they still have their sat-nav on? Do they not know their way by now?!!

Jeezus!!!! i had no idea a fwd car with Mk2 Golf bits could corner that fast :shocked!: If i tried that in my G reg 122,000 miler valver i wouldnt be here typing away!!
-
I must protest tonedef. i must, i must!! The RS 1600i, Series 1 RS Turbo & Sierra RS500 were all very special with technological advances not seen before. And of course i own a mint, standard 53,000 miler B reg Series 1 with FFSH and 2 owners 8) So i am not biased at all

Mr Sands you could not have said a more true word. I'm a copper in cardiff (BIG auto crime problem here) and theres nothing worse than submitting a top drawer file to for the Crown Prosecution Service for them or the courts to dish out a crappy community order or suspended sentance :x At least the thieving little gits tend to leave off the VW's in cardiff on a whole. They're staple diets are Fords lol's!!! -
I thought modern ecu's didn't respond to high octane petrol coz they were preset or summat. Prob talkin out of my hole really. I would have thought it was only beneficial to turbo/supercharged cars where you can advance the timing to run more psi and japanese imports that are set to run on their 100RON juice. Nowt wrong with tesco's 99 RON if you ask me lol!!!

I paid £2000 for my 1990 G reg last May with 117k, FVWSH, 2 owners, 6 months mot and everything bog standard. Its a really straight car with all the stickers present on inner wing, boot and where door opens. Everything works apart from sunroof doesn't slide. It also came with the full compliment of original brochures and VW wallet, all of which are in awesome condition. No rust on the car anywhere either and its in Dark Burgandy pearl...yummy!!!!!! Bad bits:- 1) 3 car park dings on one door and 2 on the other. (all panel gaps are even) 2) very light scuffs on edges of bumpers (would prob buff out) 3) needed the rear solid brake lines for the MOT ( £180 ouch!!!) then passed with flying colours. It is possible to find one if your prepared to travel. Mine was a 500 mile round trip!!! Good luck, hope you find one.

Hi Mancorr. I've just fitted a set of 5 1/4"speakers in my door pockets on my G reg valver. There aint much room in there depth wise so you will need shallow speakers really, Infinity do some. My door cards have holes cut in them by the previous owner which allows the magnets of deeper speakers to be fitted. I fitted some In-Phase speakers that have big magnets and swivel tweeters that sit proud of the woofer cone with no worries, but only coz the cards have holes cut in them. They do sound suprisingly good too, but cheap speakers would sound naff due to the oem door pods being plastic and small. Audioscape pods would offer the best sound by far though without the need to cut your door cards.

Hmmm, i'm liking that mod indeed. A trip to Helfrauds may be in order!!!!

I to saw the 944 handles on said golf and thought they looked awesome, especially with the engraved 'Porsche' on em. I reckon if colour coded they'd prob look pretty trick and poss not to pricey at a breakers/scrappy. If only they were easy to fit

I tried pulling back the windscreen rubber and now it wont go back. All the sealant has come unstuck, so i'd go easy if trying the same. It has had a new screen at some point so maybe it was badly sealed/stuck?

Its the traffic cops you would get the hassle off for the black plates if they were that way inclined. Beat coppers in the panda cars have way to much on their work loads to bother about black plates. Unless you live in a sleepy hollow where they have nowt to do maybe! :reindeer: I'm gonna chance the full on German jobbies complete with plakettes etc and keep a plain set in the boot to change over if i get pulled.
