Biggest problem with angel eyes is that the dip beam goes off when main beam is on, I rewired everything so they all come on and it made loads of difference. hi m8, sorry to hi-jack someone else's topic but can you tell me exactly how you re-wired your in-pros so the low beam stays on and can this be done using HIDS sorry but I'm not very good with electrics, i live in the country and my high beams are useless. I knew somebody was going to have to ask that question and I'd have to try figure it out what I did 3 years ago while I'm 4,000 miles from my car in Saudi! I added an extra relay for each headlight as in the attached drawing, I used fused relays, if you use normal ones it's best to put an in line fuse between battery and relay. Also if you already have an uprated loom, this wiring should be added on the headlight side of it. I did it this way because if the relay ever fails you still have lights. There's no reason it shouldn't work with HIDs I plan to fit them in mine some time as the R32 comes with them and I've upgraded the bike also, it can be difficult driving the Corrado sometimes! Hope this helps.

EH!?!? Are you serious?!? Yep, Im not that keen on them. There maybe not chavvy as such but they appeal to more of a chav audience I think. Dont like the big deep bumpers, skirts etc. The Mk5 is more restrained in my eyes. Im more of a Q car preson anyway i.e. something that looks stock/plain but it fast as fook. Mk4 chavvy, first time I've been accused of that! I bought my wife a Mk4 last year and she loves it although she does prefer her Corrado when I occasionally let her take it out of the garage for a drive! In our house Mk5s are known as R32 style Golfs :norty:

That's the kind of thing I'm looking for....need to try find someone that's done it with classic green now! Cheers

Last month I had some paintwork done on my R32 and was talking with the guy in the paintshop about painting the Corrado when I finally get chance to start work on it. I don't want to change from Classic Green as I think dark colours really suit it but I was wondering if anything could be done to make it look not so dull, he suggested mixing extra colour into the lacquer to increase the flip on it, he also said if we do this he'll mix lots extra to keep on a shelf in case I ever need repairs! Has anybody else tried this? It might be the only time I ever have a complete paint job done on the Corrado, it's in pretty good condition already but rather than touch up the couple of bits that need attention I'm going to have a full repaint and I thought I might be able to give it a bit more presence........a bit like the R32 looks in blue (the only colour an R32 should be allowed in!) while staying with the original colour

How I'm missing the English summer, today's been a bit cool here too, didn't make 40C today! Let me know if you need any help with the CC, it's straight forward enough, there's just lots of things you have to squeeze in behind the dash and under the bonnet. Well worth it in the end though......I've got mine all to do again when I fit the OBD2 loom. I'm going to fit a later condenser too and get rid of the huge thing that came out of the Passat, the one in the R32 is tiny in comparison. I had to move the radiator back when I fitted the existing condenser so now there's about 3mm clearance between the fans and the Schrick.....if you're doing an AC refit to CC it might be worth considering the same.

Good question! I've always been under the impression that relays is relays, as long as they have the right internal configuration and the pins are in the right place, then they're going to do the right job....aren't they??? Unless somebody knows better then I'd say why not try something that fits! Regarding the question about fans coming on with AC....the white wire from relay 017019 to the fans via the Radiator Water Switch is powered at the same time as the compressor.......that should run the fans, probably at first speed I expect. Wish I could offer more ideas but being 4,000 miles away from my Corrado (and having CC in it rather than AC) sort of hinders me a little.........on the subject of CC, did you pick that up? I'm wanting to somebody else get it installed.

+1 I read your posts yesterday Neil and thought the same, you've been having these troubles off and on for the last few years. Think I'd be letting somebody diagnose what the fault is and fix it, might cost a few quid getting it done but maybe it'll save keep stabbing in the dark? There's nobody I know of in Sheffield but I do know a guy in Chessie who's pretty hot on problems like this if you're interested?

And you're going to buy the Climatronic install from dinkus.............that way lies madness, believe me  You'll have no joy with Bentley by the way, it's based on the Yank version so they cover the factory install a/c not available to us mere Brits, we had to make do with the dealer installed aftermarket kit :cuckoo:

I know we chatted about this a bit before, your post just got me thinking about it again and I had a look at the wiring diagram.....attached here. Take a look at the wiring from the fans, there's a red/black wire connects to an orange wire through a diode which then goes back to the Trinary Switch (whatever that is???) which is in turn connected to the compressor clutch relay. Bit of a stab in the dark but if the diode is goosed or even missing, then the whole system could be back feeding and kicking the a/c in from the fans rather than the reverse which is the desired effect? Oh yes, and good luck!

Yup, there's a fair few pictures on here plus a big write up somewhere IIRC. It was a big job and I'll have to do it all again when I convert to OBD2, the wiring part anyway!
-
I can say with a fair amount of confidence that it will fit, I know this because I've done it myself, my 95 Corrado has climate control from a 96 Passat. It is however much bigger than the standard heater box, you'll loose probably around 100 to 150mm from the back of the glove box and almost all the space from the passenger lower shelf, my shelf is maybe 20mm deep at the deepest point, handy for storing a pen and that's about it! The ducts all line up, the bulkhead needs one extra mounting bolt hole drilling as the Passat box has 4 bolts over the Corrado's 3, those 3 are in the right place though! You also need a big square hole cutting through the bulkhead for the coolant pipes to come through. Then you'll need all the controls (Passat one cut down and slotted straight into the hole left in the dash by the Corrado one), wiring mods, piping, compressor, drier and condenser. The benefits are immediate though, not only does it blow nice cool air in the summer but the blower is up to the job of clearing the windows on wet winter days.

That's a rather brave statement :cuckoo: Congratulations on a nice looking purchase anyway

Ok, an odd one, that will prob not be appreciated on the cf?

Yep, Thule do them. Also used to be a genuine VW one I almost bought for my first Corrado in 96 until I saw the price, it was astronomical...........probably long time discontinued now too although you could try a wanted ad. Can't see the problem fitting a roofrack to a Corrado myself, it's a car, you use your car to transport stuff, there's not a lot of space inside, nuf said! -
Tell me about it :epicfail:

Yes but you know what I'm getting at! And Jeremy Clarkson hardly inhabits the world the rest of us have to live in, he can probably negotiate a discount on a single car sufficient to keep us in new cars for years by virtue of the kind of exposure he can give, repeatedly stating on Top Gear that he considers something so good he even bought one. I don't expect to see him rushing to the showrooms any time soon to take Alastair Darling up on his £2,000 bribe! Good luck with the car shopping anyway, keep us up to speed on how it goes. The way my weekend's gone I'm staying away from cars, Saturday afternoon my wife managed to close the garage door on the R32 as she was still reversing in, sounds like it might need a new roof skin. Then just a few hours later my daughter turned her Ka over doing the fox evasion manoeuvre. Seems like I'm flying home next week to total carnage, at least the Corrado is behind my bike in the garage, a bike which is fortunately chained and locked to a ground anchor, the key being with me in Saudi!

The cars will be dismantled for recycleable materials but is this the same as dismantling and making serviceable parts available for re-use? Separating the different types of metals for scrap etc is not in the same league as selling a fully functioning ABS pump say to someone who can then keep their otherwise healthy car on the road. This is the same government supposedly trying to give the now totally foreign owned car industry a kickstart after spending the last 12 years trying to force us out of using our cars with ever increasing tax burdens, the hypocrisy of the situation never ceases to amaze me! I agree that people employed in the industry may feel hard done to if they lose their job over it but a vast number of those jobs were already sold down the line, the huge stockpiles of cars sat near the docks are testament to how many are shipped into the country all the time rather than being built in house, successive administrations have totally failed to stop the rot in our own industries, car manufacture being just one of those. I wouldn't suggest that the opportunity to get a £2,000 discount off a new car is a bad thing, assuming my income tax doesn't go up next year to fund it. I would however be shopping around car supermarkets etc to see if I could not get a better discounted price on a cash sale first, coupled with a few hundred quid for the sale of the 205 and you might well end up in pocket while at the same time somebody ends up with a bargain car? I could have been interested myself if I didn't live so far away from you, my 18 year old daughter rolled her Ka last night swerving to miss a fox! Rant over, must get back to work ensuring the plant keeps churning out 1,000 tonnes of polypropylene per day, all those new cars will be needing plastic!

It's just another demonstration of government's short sightedness when it comes to green issues. The costs involved in raw materials and energy consumption vastly outweigh the savings achieved by replacing a still serviceable car. To add insult to injury the poor old tax payer (you and me) have to then foot the bill for a £1,000 discount while the dealer laughs all the way to the bank as he only has to discount the full list price by another £1,000, he'd most likely have needed to offer a much more substantial discount had it been a simple cash sale. And finally, the car rather than having good parts recycled to keep other cars on the road has to be crushed. Whoever came up with such a scheme must have been spending his/her expense allowance on class A drugs. Remember they are the same people who subsidise the price of a Prius and consider it green even though any normal small car without resorting to the use of exotic materials can better the wonder Toyota's fuel consumption figures. :cuckoo:

Not sure you're supposed to remember them, I've had a 30D almost 3 years and it's still half guesswork!
-
It does make it a little shall we say interesting if you throw it into a corner enthusiastically, could maybe be dialled out with more compression damping  We do by the way have the complete Thule kit with the spreader bars, I've carried windsurfers lots of times and some big piles of wood when I was extending the house, you just have to plan ahead a bit!
-
Don't see what the problem is myself, how else you gonna get the bikes to where you're going.........we went from Derbyshire to Suffolk like this!

I don't know if it's the answer as I've heard of nobody else having similar problems but when I fitted my In-Pros there was no way of adjusting the aim low enough, I screwed the adjusters all the way in but still only lit up trees. In the end I extended the adjusting screws by taking a piece of 10 mm diameter steel bar 20mm long and drilling and tapping it through the centre. I then cut the original adjusting screws and fitted my new extension pieces in with lock nuts on each end. Overall extension of the screws was around 10mm which gave me enough adjustment to get the beam set right. I can't help with a photo as I'm 4,000 miles away from my C in Saudi until the middle of June but if none of this makes any sense I can do a sketch of what I mean.

Selling a Corrado with classic stalling/idle problems
tonedef replied to norman16v's topic in General Car Chat
If you think you know what's wrong with it, surely it's better to invest that money before you try to sell? If I came to look at buying your car and you tell me there's a problem and it's going to take X amount of money to fix, I'd be looking at knocking you down by at least double that amount just for the hassle I'm going to have fixing it and the chance that what you say needs doing is not really the problem, that's after you've already discounted your asking price to take the problem into account. If however I come along and it's purring away nicely, you might have already won me over. BTW, I'm not interested in buying your car! -
If you can take the sprockets off.....mine refused totally even out of the car with the cam shaft in the vice......broke a Snap-On socket in the process even! When I bought the 268s I ended up buying new sprockets, bolts and timing sender as they are so damn tight. It is possible to get the cams out with the sprockets still on although it's a bit tricky getting the first one past the chain, just persevere! The gearbox is not too bad, I removed and refitted it on my own, left hand on the top of the block to prop myself up and lift the box out with the right hand grabbing the gear selector mechanism.......hurts a bit at the time but you feel like a star after!!!
