1. I bought a 1.4S for my daughter's 17th birthday a couple of years ago, love it although it hasn't been without it's problems, worst of which was a couple of broken bearings in the gearbox.
2. I knew there were a few bits about this car in early Sprinters, first from the Autumn 1996 edition with a short write up but then strangely, a for sale advert for the number plate from the Spring 1998 edition......did the number get sold and transferred to another Nugget G60, the plot thickens??? Autumn 1996.pdf Spring 1998.pdf
3. That was Brian Rose, the rather notorious first chairman.
4. I remember it being at the first AGM in 96 too.....It was also at my first CCGB meeting at Brooklands in August 96, seem to remember it was from the North East somewhere? Can't read the numberplate very well though.
5. I looked at 996s and came really close to buying one a few years ago when I was looking to replace my wife's R32. From what I remember the later 3.6 is the one to go for rather than earlier 3.4 as they had some crank seal issues which is fairly major! In the end I bought her a new shape 3.2 TT just for the convenience of a car with a boot rather than a small space under the bonnet. I still have a Porsche itch though and will have to scratch it one day! Suppose I'm lucky that I have the space to keep the Corrado too rather than having to choose between one or the other.
6. Climate control without a doubt.....having a fan with enough grunt to clear the windows rather than waft a bit of warm air in their general direction wins hands down! Cool in summer is a bonus too!!!
7. Wish these had been around a year or so ago when I swapped to OBD2 and sold my Schrick.........looks like a nice piece of kit, good luck if you decide to make more of them!
8. I'll take it off you for the asking price.....mine came without the manual and with a plastic wallet! PM me your details and I'll paypal you if that's OK? Cheers Tony
9. Thanks for spotting that, I bought the brake light. I've been promising to cut a hole in the boot lid to fit one of these for ages!
10. Knew I'd seen it before........issue 14!
11. Not heard if it's been done before so you might be the guinea pig but how about getting an R32 oil pump then doing a cut n shut job on the sump to shorten it? You're lucky your sump is holding up, I've only got a 'sensible' drop on coilies and managed to grind the bottom off the sump and dump all the oil one time!
12. I'll take this if it's still for sale? Need another wiring challenge!
13. Storms were LC5L, Mystic Blue or LC6U, Classic Green only.....certainly not LC9Z, sorry!
14. More than compensated for by fitting a climatronic blower!!!
15. You might be able to get it rebuilt, depending on type of course. We used to build and tune dampers when I worked in motorsports but that was with couple of grand a corner Reiger dampers. Are there any motorsports teams close to you, they might not do it themselves but will know somebody who does.
16. It's a more modern system............better fuelling, improved economy, smoother running, no more frustrating engine stalls, more tuneable.............
17. It's surprising how much cleaner the inside of the screen stays with a pollen filter fitted.........less cleaning is always a plus point in my eyes!!!
18. Jetex certainly used to make pollen filters as I have one on mine......not sure if they still do though, seem to remember trying to buy a replacement a couple of years ago and not being able to find anyone that sold them.
19. It's not a bad fit, I've managed to get it inside a slam panel without chopping any lumps out........my old slam panel had various pieces missing! I had to bend one of the pipes a bit to get it around the rad but not too much so happier with that, I just need to get the hoses modified now as the fittings are different, hoping that Pirtek can solve that one!
20. Mine's from a 96 Passat, controls, heat exchanger, compressor, pipework and everything.....been fitted five or six years now. Part way through fitting a Mk4 Golf condenser at the moment as it's about half the size of the one that came out of the Passat!
21. Liking the look of that, fits the console better than mine! How do you find having a fan that actually blows rather than wafting a little bit of air in the general direction you ask for???
22. Welcome back Michael, looking forward to seeing what you can achieve with a new one!
23. In my very early days of VR6 ownership and before I found how easy it was to remove the bumper and slam panel I did do a rad swap.....took me close to six hours, probably four hours longer than it would doing it the easy way.........if you're short of time it's not the way to go!
