    Questions

More like about 5 miles per litre by my quick sums, low 20s mpg which is not far wrong. 320 from a tank is not too bad, I see more than that on a run although don't expect much better than 350/360. About town as low as 250 maybe, as Traverse says, summer/winter makes a big difference too. 2.9 V6 motors are not about fuel economy
  2. I'm flying home tomorrow night so will be around from Tuesday for the next couple of weeks. If you're coming over for that heater box I can always check the codes with vagcom for you?
  3. No need to support the engine, you don't have to take that much out. Apart from the 4x17mm bolts for the bumper it's just loads of self tappers holding splitter, arch liners, lights and bits of plastic everywhere. I did a rad once without pulling the front panel, it's possible but a real pain in the @rse that took the best part of 6 hours, less than half that when you remove the panel, unless you get carried away cleaning all the bits while they're off like I usually do
  4. So long as you have a booked MOT you're OK to drive to the test station without a tax disk as you need one to get the other. I checked last year with my insurance as I had to do just the same thing. As far as driving to your mate's to get welding done I guess you'd be breaking a whole load of laws unless of course he's at the test station
  5. Disappointing
  6. Snap On Yer gets what yer pays for
  7. Odd too, doesn't look like too big of a shunt yet the roof's been cut off to get somebody out
  8. Or the immobiliser, had the same thing with mine and fixed it by swapping the reader coil around the ignition switch.
  9. I bought a set of these from the Snap On man some years ago, came with some left handed drill bits too which half the time get the broken piece out on their own without even resorting to the extractor. And yes, you're right, drill a hole down the centre of the bolt, all the way through if you can manage as it seems to relieve the bolt more than just going half way through.
  10. Thread hijack maybe. I've got a VGI and 268s fitted and although when I bought the cams they came with two different remapped (by Stealth) chips I've never actually fitted one as I needed to get a socket soldered into the ECU to allow swapping them about. Now I've bought everything for an OBD2 install so guess I'll never have the OBD1 mapped. Does anyone know if ODB2 will need remapping to suit the inlet and cams or is it just suck it and see, as I read somewhere that there's less to be gained with the later system?
  11. My 1-3 manifold was warped quite badly and blowing when I pulled the motor to bits a couple of years ago. I just re-worked it on the belt sander, fitted a new gasket and it's been fine ever since. Plus the emissions seemed to be loads better at it's next MOT so I think it was possibly draing loads of air in too. Worth a try for free before you shell out on a new one?

    Brave Guy!

Not sure if this is a repost, a mate of mine emailed it me last night. Count how many fingers you have before and after  http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3680224
  13. You could try Custom Cages in Daventry Neil, they list a Corrado one on the website. You can either have them fit it for you complete or buy it in kit form and fit it yourself, they're fully homologated FIA approved weld in ones if that's what you're looking for. cheers for that, had a look on their site, non of the diagrams work, altho looking at the price i wont be getting one soon![/quote:3jzt31hn] I tried the diagrams too! There's two ways to look at the price, make one for yourself and spend loads of hours doing it or buy the kit of parts all cut and bent ready for welding in, saves you some serious headaches

  15. Ouch! Eight months in Saudi certainly makes you lose touch a bit with the prices in UK, I get 15.3 litres of 95 RON (high octane here) for the same money
  16. Next time you see a Snap On man, go on and buy one of these for about a tenner, takes all standard 1/4" hex bits http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=75046&group_ID=11620&store=uk&dir=catalog. You don't need the full set as in the link but there's no picture of an individual one. You'll wonder how you ever did anything without one!
  17. But you do end up with a newer car for your money. I'll never sell the C but that doesn't mean I'll not buy something else to use for every day driving, also allowing me to park up the Corrado and do enough work on it to get through another couple of years use before repeating the process. Most Corrados are now getting to an age where they don't benefit from use as a daily. Sold my 51 plater last July for £8250, you'll pick up a good pre facelift one for less. And no matter how much I like the Corrado, the S3 was in a different league.
  18. Years ago I was in my local dealers picking up some bits and a guy at the service desk was collecting his Golf at the same time. They read off the list of parts they'd swapped to fix his central locking, gave him a bill for almost £600 and told him he'd have to book another visit to bring the car back in as it actually didn't work yet.
  19. Me too, photobucket not allowed in Saudi :(
  20. My bonnet used to stick on the left side, tightenning the pull cable cures it.
  21. I used to work at http://www.adrmotorsport.com/ and we had the son of a well known blind UK MP there on his work experience while doing the same course. He's back there full time now. We had another guy there on his work experience who's now running a racing team in UAE. It's a great industry to work in although the hours can sometimes be crippling, believe me! Stick at it, you never know where you'll end up. I however gave it up after a couple of years and came back to my engineering roots, I may be stuck in Saudi for the moment but the money is in a different league for sure, there might be a lot of money in motorsport but not always in the wages, of course building a winning car is priceless 8)
  22. Taking Without Owner's Consent Anyone else would call them simply car thieves, we have to come up with a nice friendly word for scum no more than common criminals, fairly typical for our over PC country.
  23. You could try http://volkswagen.msk.ru/index.php?p=page09 for wiring diagrams, however most of the English stuff seems to be of American origin so that'd not help you with a valver. The dealers did have detailed info but may not still have it now. A neighbour of mine works at the local dealership and lent me their Passat folder when I was doing the climatronic install. He couldn't find the Corrado one and said that all the new stuff is stored electronically so the older stuff seems to be going missing as they don't have much use for it. He did say though that you can make a direct request to Milton Keynes for copies of specific areas as they cannot deny you access to original info, not quite sure how you go about it though.
  24. Bet his phone's ringing off the hook?

    Full respray?

Think there's only one Classic Green, LC6U. The link at the bottom of the buyer's guide seems to confirm that too. http://www.the-corrado.net/wiki/index.php?title=The_Corrado_Buying_Guide_%26_Checklist Maybe Goldie's is just the shinier version :)
