Mincy is staying but his 12v is going in favour of a tasty new 24v lump. Not because there is anything wrong with the 12v (see above post for how reliable mine is) but because I believe a car with a manly name like Mincy deserves a 400bhp motor! :camp:
-
Now look here, I'll have you know that mine almost always runs perfectly........
-
Just goes to show you should have got the far superior and reliable 6 cyl version to save yourself all these worries............

Bad luck mate, like Tom says get it in the post and you'll have it back before you know it. Shirley you can borrow a pool car from work?

Alright mate, if you just want to drive in anger without having a wish to drive exotica then I can highly recommend a full rally day or something. I did one about 18months ago and did about 30 laps on a track and about 20 laps on a gravel stage. Track time was split between an Evo8 and a Scooby Sti Wrx. And the off road stuff was a 106 rally car. On the gravel you're on your own, ie no other cars, but out on track everyone else is going round as well. The good thing was that the instructor just let me go for it, which meant I got quickest lap of the day. There was quicker stuff on track but like you say you can be restricted as to how hard you can push them. No idea what it cost though I'm afraid. I'd do it again in an instant it was awesome!

Do you find a lot of the local chavs try to race you now?
-
Sounds like a fun time ahead in the absence of the Corrado then chap!

If I'm going for a spirited drive and want the car to feel light and nimble I always make sure I go for a big dump before I leave! -

get yourself a techtonics exhaust. My original item weighed about 21kg, and my techtonics weighs 9kg! -
V-Power and Tesco Premium are both 99RON and the only thing that goes in my car. You definitely shouldn't be putting normal 95RON stuff in it ever as Henny says because it can cause some nasty pinking etc as the ecu is setup to run timing based on the more efficient burn of the quality stuff. Plus VW themselves tell you to put 98RON or above in it themselves, just read the inside of your petrol filler flap....

Well this is the things as I only use mine once a week so not sure it'd not be a problem hopefully. How about a swap with my weitec GT shocks and springs?
-
So what's the plan for the old 12v motor then mate? Just noticed the Corozin is now looking for a good block to rebuild his race engine with? What about that Audi 80 that rado-steve's got up for £600, eaton'd 1.6 project?
-
I'll have the Variants then mate?!?
-
LMAO! I almost just spat my tea across my desk!
-
I'll third that, awesome work mate! Looks like you'll have it up and running before the weekend!
-
All looking good Mr McCrotch, you definitely haven't been hanging about in getting it all sorted. Look forward to seeing this car at some point. :salute: Kev's a good lad to know as I think he's done pretty much every job needed on a VR on his own and a couple of other peoples now!

Nice mate, very nice. Definitely should be proud of yourself. Hoping to get down to say hello and help out if I can mate. Got to pay you back for all those special cuddles.....

Those dutchdub brackets are very expensive for what they are, my plan is to just get it all in position and just make something up myself. Strength is key I guess so I'll probably need a bit of help getting it right. Where you going to steal an 02M from? Finding it hard to find one that'll work with my 24V
-
Me neither mate. Had a quick scan around though and driveshaft clearance might only be a problem on the 02M boxes with the haldex transfer boxes, but if you can find a FWD only one you should have a similar amount of clearance as the standard box. I'll be keeping an eye on this one, definitely something I'm interested in.
-
As James has said, I've been looking into this myself and the dutchdub bracket will fit any 02M box but requires the cup for the gearbox mount to be cut of and rewelded to the subframe about an inch lower. Didn't realise C2 did a bracket as well. Definitely worth a look if it means keeping the original subframe position, although in the back of my mind I think you can have problems with the driveshaft clearances.

I recently drove both an Evo 8 and Scooby WRX STi back to back on a trackday and must say I much prefered the Evo. All round better car I thought. Definitely the right choice in my books although not quite as 'balls out' as the Scooby on full attack mode.

I'm off to the national day on saturday but got to go past kettering on the way home so could pop in for a cuppa? Rather you two than me pulling engine and gearbox out by hand. You're both mad!
-
Don't need to pretension mine up, just give it the word and it's up ready for action...... :camp:
-
Popped round to see Kev last night and he was saying how much fun you had getting the old 12V out, think the engine hoist is a wise move mate! Good luck with it all, I'll have to pop round at some point and see how you're getting on.
