Top work mate, loving the grumpy roller and must say I think my heart would have skipped a few beats if I put my car on that thing! Looking forward to seeing everything back together.

You'll struggle to make more than a couple of grand a week selling weed mate... you need to be thinking cocaine or heroine (Tom VR6 has the UK market on Crystal Meth covered) Do you need to borrow one of my crackwhores while you get your chains done? I'm trying to mitigate the risk by going for one of the lower classes of drugs, i figure I don't need the kind of money the serious drugs can generate unless I was upgrading to something like a blacked out X5/6. Obviously the loan of a suitable crackwhore to help sales is always appreciate. Usual 15% commission?

To be honest i was thinking about selling a little bit of weed out of the car to help pay for the engine mods, these turbo things ain't cheap! Obviously I'd only sell it to those who needed it for medical reasons.....................

Indeed it is mate. Located on the back of the airbox. Unfortuntely the MAF can be faulty but not actually dead altogether, instead it just doesn't get a full signal. If it's only very intermittant it's worth cleaning it with a quick spray of contact cleaner (maplins) but don't actually touch the wire. Might get it to survive a little longer but again to guarantees I'm afraid. As Cazza has said, damper pot can be removed altogether but if you're having stalling issues it's worth making sure the foam from the damper pot hasn't been sucked into the other pipes, and also the pot itself is prone to splitting as it's subject to quite a bit of heat from the exhaust manifold. Let us know how you get on chap.

Super Toad to the rescue! So how many reach arounds did he charge for the pleasure of being rescued by him and Jim?

Classic VR problem I'm afraid guys, believe me I spent ages trying to sort similar on mine. Unfortunately depending on how/when the stalling and dodgy idle occurs can mean it's a different broken sensor. Straight stalling when you pull up at a junction, ie no hunting or hesitancy, is usually ISV sticking or faulty. Stalling only when hot/up to temp and having issues restarting can be blue temp sensor not registering the correct temp and keeping the car in warm up/chuck in loads of fuel mode. Hunting/Stalling and lack of power etc can usually be traced to MAF, but others have told me that Lambda problems can have the same symptoms. Difference is that MAF issues don't usually show up on vagcom unfortunately. Also consider checking HT leads and coilpack (if you've got one) and also check for any potential airleaks in the air intake pipe working letting in unmetered air. Now like I said I, and many others, have tried to cure the VR stalling issue and unfortunately it's not an exact science. First I'd vagcom it if possible and then see what/if any error codes come up. It'll also give you a chance to see if the water temp sensors are working correctly. Then have a good search on here as this issue has got loads of thread for it with different tips/tricks to try and cure it. Hope this helps. Good luck!

If there is one thing I've learnt from my VRT research it is that not a lot of it will be straight forward. No one really does a RHD kit for one so a level of modification to any kit would be needed, then you've got to find a garage that's done one already and knows what is needed and even then every install seems to be a fair amount of trial and error on fitting etc. Or you do it yourself but loads of people on here will tell you how tricky that can be. Either way if you want 350bhp, charge cooler, LSD etc etc the works basically then I'd factor in a minimum of £3-5k just on parts depending on quality. £2k for ok car. Then god knows how much in labour. Wouldn't even like to guess how much a garage would charge to convert to AWD. Good luck with it mate, I'm starting a 24VT conversion in about 8 weeks time. I'm doing most of it myself because I'm mad, and the rest will be sorted by these guys http://www.dgautotech.com/dgauto/ who are a couple of guys off this forum. Both their cars are awesome.

Yeah yours is ok Kev, bit lacking in the top end though........... In reality no matter how good your car is sooner or later someone will come along and spank you with something better. Just save up, buy an Ariel Atom in full on supercharged form and then just pi$$ on everyone else until you run out of people to overtake.

I've spent the majority of the past week trying to convince a friend of mine to buy this car. TBH if I thought I could actually sell mine and also didn't have a 24V engine ready to go in it then I'd have snapped your arm off by now for this!

Sounds good Wendy. A little unsure about the aero kit myself but there is no denying these are fantastic cars.

Great news mate and great site, look forward to making my way over to see you both and have a nosey around! Top Stuff, hats off to you both for branching out on your own. :salute: -
Agreed, legendary thread!

I'd have thought a very slight judder was because it was a brand new clutch, it'll go with time. If it's more pronounced than maybe it's very slightly out of alignment. The fact it's going once you give it slight revs I'd favour that it's all ok, just bed it in over a few thousand miles and see how it goes. Definitely nothing to worry about I think so cheer up!

^^Funniest post in weeks!!
-
 ROFL Quality Thread!
-
Is it only a very slight, bearly noticable judder or is it quite pronounced?

Irwins FTW!

And if you sell it 10 minutes after we get it running..... I'll have to get my slipper out and give you a public b0ll0cking   that'll never ever happen mate because I know we'll get ir running factory smooth ;) I'm looking forward to seeing this in action Rob, if you and Kev need a spare pair of hands I'm only down the road and I don't think I'll be starting my project properly until June/July now as my wedding has cost a bit more than we thought so I'll have a bit of spare time.

Cheers for letting me have a go in your car today mate, hope you made it to Luton ok and I look forward to seeing those wheels on your car. Hat's off to you chap, it is a wonderfully set up car. Not only from an engine point of view but the way it handled and drove, I think you've got a really good one there mate just make sure you hold onto it! Thanks again, and I look forward to letting you have a spin in mine once it's done. :salute:

Well lucky for me Tedman let me have a drive of his 2.8 24V this afternoon and wow what a difference. Wouldn't say the additional 15bhp is noticable, what is noticable is the way it delivers the power in such a way that it feels so much quicker from almost any revs. And it was super smooth, quiet on idle and makes a great noise, I can now definitely see why so many people are doing the conversions. Cheers Terry! :salute:

I can't wait to see your motor mate. I've never even been in a golf 24v so very interested to see how different it is. Strange how so many people are going for the R32 engines, but I'm still really happy with my engine. I'm not going to mess with the internals on mine as it's only done about 50K, so i'll just go spacer route as I'm only planning to run about 10psi to start and maybe a full engine build later when I want a bit more power. Other thing I've got on my side is the fact I've got everything - engine, ecu, looms, clocks, dbw pedal etc so I hope it'll all run smoothly. 8)
-
What's with everyone giving up on the 24v installs or selling them soon after? Is it just people getting bored with Corrado's in general and fancying a change? I can't wait to get going with my lowly 2.8 24v conversion but worried I'll end up getting rid of it.

My Pearl Ghey 16v Gone :( - Introducing "Annie"

Not sure Jon, I was all ready to post up a suitable response about not liking them earlier but more I look at them the more I'm not sure. I'm wondering if it's not the wheels themselves but that the Grey looks really wahsed out next to the green......... oh I don't know, think I'm talking crap now! I'm also choosing to believe that you made your decision based on the fact it's GT Beetle Apple Green rather than Porsche GT3RS Green  -
Left stranded, car towed cos of insurance error.
mic_VR replied to VR6Joni's topic in General Car Chat
Sorry but I 100% don't agree with that statement. The police are not at fault here, and everything they have done can quite easily be undone. Driving without insurance is a crime which is out of control at the moment and the police are clamping down hard on it, and rightly so. The police don't maintain the insurance database, that is done by the insurance companies. And although some are telling the truth the police can't just believe every single story they are told by a member of public, if you're knowingly driving without insurance then you've got no problems trying to lie you way out of something. Back to the original question.... I'd have thought there was good case for compo from the insurance company though so I'd agree with the others and just itemise all your expenses from the incident onwards and claim it back. Don't forget to value your own time for sitting on the phone, driving around etc, any loss of earnings and so on. Be interested to know how your bro gets on. Good luck to him. -
Old car scrappage scheme - it's kicking off!
mic_VR replied to Sonicriot13's topic in General Car Chat
This is key, who out there will have the additional CASH lying around to buy a brand new car? Not many I'd suspect which means more people getting onto HP schemes and relying even more on credit. I was under the impression that we want to move away from credit based purchases? :? I'm trying not to rant after my long reply yesterday but I can go on and on about why this stuff won't work. These things all run in cycles, you can't have boom forever in the same way that I don't think a few years of slow down will cause the end of the world as we know it. Giving the lucky few a couple of grand off a brand new car isn't going to help, it would be better spent on tax rate cuts for those that need it and therefore giving the majority of the public more money to spend on the high street. It's a complete joke. I for one will be keeping the Corrado, and therefore keeping me out of debt and able to go out and spend some money on things I want and still pay my mortgage.... and if the worst comes to the worst I'll have less financial commitments if it really does go tits up like all the happy happy people in the media think it will. Man I'm getting grumpy in my old age!.........
