Old car scrappage scheme - it's kicking off!
mic_VR replied to Sonicriot13's topic in General Car Chat
Need more information on the car scrappage scheme. I doubt they will just allow the £2000 against any new car, I expect that you'll be restricted to eco friendly low emission cars so nothing flash, fast, 4x4 or even remotely fun. You'll also probably have to prove you've owned the car for a certain amount of time to stop people just buying a £100 wreck and getting £2K for it straight away, but David is right - where is this money coming from? I've heard rumours of a 50:50 split which means the car maufacturers and government will stump up £1k each. Other highlights for me include - Government funded saving for those on benefits (apparently paying for them to live as it is isn't enough, now I have to pay them some savings as well! :mad2: ) - Tax clawbacks on pensions of high earners (lovely, punish those who've done well and paid into a pension over the past 30 years) - Tax on fuel, obviously the 2/3rds of every litre isn't enough especially as oil prices are lower than they've ever been. - (one I do agree on here) 50% tax band for all those earning more than £150,000 a year - fair enough, and they are going to introduce a similar scheme for those high earning corporations as well. Granted they think this tax band will net an extra £500+Million a year so could be an option. Sorry for the rant but it just seems to be a complete waste of time, if you run through the numbers all the increases in tax will be negated by the additional government spending. There is some good stuff in there (housing for armed forces, joint equity house buying schemes, ISA savings band increases etc, but there is some shocking stuff as well. Oh well, it'll keep me busy for a few weeks as there is a couple of tax loopholes that my clients might be interested in! -
Old car scrappage scheme - it's kicking off!

Think you've missed the point slightly, you only get the £2000 if you trade your old car in for a brand new 'eco' one, not if you just scrap it. They'll still be a second hand market and new drivers will still be able to buy old bangers to wreck. In my professional opinion this budget has been rubbish, won't make a difference in the grand scheme of the things. Best of luck to all of us, the govenment have messed it up once more... Great! :( -
Car is looking good mate, glad you got it all sorted out in the end. I think you'll be impressed with the wheels mate, and just look at them on Coullstars car... proper race wheels!
-
Cheers Pete, it's definitely a work in progress now.... Ironically the paint work was the one thing I wasn't planning to do anything to! Unfortunately I've not had time/money to do anything to the car recently and tbh everytime I look at it I feel sorry for the fact I'm not taking better care of it..... but watch this space in June for some major changes into the 24V world, looking at your install I'll be very happy if I can come close to that level. There's so many of us now we'll all have to have 24V meet up!

HAHA! :) Pointing out that there was no need to create F430 style side-ducting to cool the engine when it was front mounted in the 'wagon was not received with good humour  PMSL!!!!!

Ah mate, gutted for you. I know you've put a shed load of good work into your car, and I know how impressed I was with it when I drove it in s/c'd form. Glad you're sticking with it and not just selling the whole thing which others seem to be doing. I must admit I'm another one who fell in love with the 24V idea, to point I've got a 2.8 4motion sat in mrbeiges garage, but I can also see why you're going back to the good old 12v with a turbo. You only have to look at people like Kev, Dave and Shaun to see exactly what is possible with those 'old' engines. Best of luck to you chap. :salute:

I know what you mean, I worry about the average IQ being dragged significantly down by some of these people and they're out on our roads as we speak :brickwall: Other side of it is that I do enjoy watching them get a good pasting by the cops when they resist, I also like programs like Britcops for that same reason. Some of these people don't even have the brain power to realise that cops=nightsticks, nightsticks=pain..... :cuckoo:

By the looks of it mate you're not the only one! Surely your insurance company could wriggle out of stumping up the cash if your V5 docs didn't match the cars current engine or am I being overly paranoid? Good news that the insurance didn't change much, might get a couple of 'what if' quotes before I actually start work on mine.

Anyone know the cost of rear brake discs from VW?

I paid £23.50 each back in Oct 2007 if that helps. Edit - Steve beat me to it! -

If you give me 1/2hr to have a rumage in my receipts folder I might well have the answer! -
Quality! Looking good chap.

OK guys quick question, what have those that have actually done the conversion told the DVLA? i.e. new engine codes and displacement etc for the V5 docs. And also what have you told the insurance people and has it had any effect on your premiums? Cheers Mic

Good work Chantelle, nice to see you sticking at it and you'll get there in the end!

Well I decided to sort out my gear linkage this morning and the C is so much nicer to drive now I've spent a bit of time setting it up properly after changing the clutch recently. So I spent the day driving around in it again and the stalling is getting worse....... typical! One step forward, 5 steps back!
-
Well I spent the entire day out driving it today and low and behold the damn thing kept playing up and stalling on me...... gotta love those Corrado's!
-
Reset the ecu, then going to give it a wash and polish, and then I'm actually get out and drive it for a change rather than just having it as a large ornament outside the house!

Last few days have consisted of Bat for Lashes - Two Suns Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz! White Lies - To Life My Life The YYY's album is brilliant, a bit more electro than their usual but a damn good album.

This is quite an interesting thread, nice to see a lot of people not really bothering to replace the C unless it's for something RWD or quite exotic. I must admit I've got a real hankering for an E46 M3 but I'm just not sure I could let my C go and also the relative stigma of driving an M3. Has anyone on here had one/driven one? What did you think? As for the S2000, not sure I like the revvy nature of those engines, I found the CTR tiring to drive in anger as you need to rag the hell out of it to get it going. I'd prefer the brute force of a larger capacity motor over a revvy top end any day.

Looking good matey, those 8v's are a dream to work on when compared to the Corrado. So much room to work in. Next cambridge meet in two weeks tomorrow, doubt I'll be there though as that's the weekend before my wedding so I'll be doing stuff for that. They're a pretty good bunch though down at fendubbers so get yourself along if you're free, I'll definitely be at the one in May as that'll be the last time the C is going to be in one piece for a while!
-
haha! Yeah they got me good that's for sure. I'm surprised the next Northgate meet hasn't been sorted yet but definitely catch up then if not before.
-
Top stuff Janet :salute: Sorry I couldn't make it on sunday but I believe you know the story of my abduction? Still recovering now.... :gag:
-
I'll give a third vote for straight silver, they look awesome mate. :salute:
-
Why do you think I'm whacking up the power on my VR, just in case I find myself in need of a little sideways saving! Awesome driving though, who says front wheeled drive cars are slow.....

Holy Sh1t! Sue them for everything you can, that is bloody disgraceful if they left you with a car that caused those kind of injuries let alone any other issues you have with them. -

Bad luck Jon but at least it's getting sorted and you had plenty of people about to ensure he didn't have a problem providing the appropriate details eh? :nono:
