1. Buy one 2. There is no 2. 3. Why are you still reading? Sounds simple enough, I'm coming from owning a valver where I'd buy it a bloody bunch of flowers and box of chocolates if I thought it'd make it go any quicker.

After two years of bringing my valver up to scratch I finally killed it by reversing into a wall whilst stupidly hung-over. I'm now stripping and selling it to make way for a VR, although I learnt a lot about tuning 16v's I'm starting from scratch again now so I'd just like to know what bit's to look out for and what not. I know this subject has been covered a million times so to cut it short I just have a few questions... Do the inlet manifolds respond well to gas flowing? I've been offered a gas flowed tb off a 2.8, shall I bother or just stick with the 2.9? 6 branch's, chip's, power boost valves...waste of time? Anything else I should either definately do or any mods I should avoid like the plague? The more bits I can sort whilst on the look out the better, I always prefer doing all the work at the same time as you feel the difference a lot easier.

Sorry to steal this thread and I know it's not the correct section to talk about buying and selling but I'd have that off you if it's going spare. pm me with a price or chuck it on the selling section and I'll have a look

Cheers everybody it's all good feedback and nice to know I haven't made a mistake with the Ronals. Steve as for that photo of your old bay...thought it was mine for a split second, seriously uncanny but great minds think alike and all that :)

My 1.8T Rado......End of the adventure.......Gutted!

This is how I'd like mine to look if somebody was kind enough to buy a kidney off me, absolutely awesome. -
Well if I was fortunate enough to wake up and find a supercharger had attached itself to my block, The first thing I'd do is hand SWG about £200 for one of their induction kits...but that's probably based mainly on how cool they look. Realistically I have no real idea what I'm talking about when it comes to G60's
-
Yeah I just figured I love 'Rados and I love Ronals so what the heck, In reality they're not ideally suited but as it's fairly low I hope I'm getting away with it. As for the Redbull can, everything on my C breaks anyway so it might as well look cool whilst doing it :)
-
Got the manifold proffessionally powdercoated for £30, make's all the difference and I think it looks a bit moodier then a chrome one. As for the redbull can on the coil, old school I know but It's a bit of a Newquay RTTS thing..trying to keep the vibe alive :D

Well if I've helped you make your mind up then that can't be a bad thing. They are 7j et28 rims wearing 195/45/15 rubber. If I had the option again I'd be tempted to go for a 50 sidewall though, as with my suspension it feels like I'm going to lose a bloody wheel when I hit a pothole.
-
Cheers mate, I originally wanted a black one as I think they look overly sick but ended up with this instead. Absolute pig to keep clean and the old bill pull me over for so much as using my bloody windscreen wipers, but it's all fun and games.

Right I've been on here floating around in the background now for a few months, so it's probably about time I put on a few pics. Feedback is very much appreciated but be gentle as this is my first C and it's been a bit of a learning curve to say the least, It was completely standard when I got it and not in the greatest condition. Did have it on Wolfrace rims but wanted something a bit more Euro looking so opted for Turbo's, I know it's a bit of a strange choice on a C but they're growing on me, Jury's still out though I reckon. Next on the cards is tidying up the paint and some German plates, then I think I'm pretty much done (If you ever truly can be when it comes to this kind of thing :) )passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfoffsidefrontlow.jpg[/attachment:2647d]climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfoffsidefronthigh.jpg[/attachment:2647d]2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfnearsiderear.jpg[/attachment:2647d]

Sorry sparks I just reaslised I welcomed you to the forum after you've made 9 posts...when I looked quick I swear it was a 1. Just being friendly but I think I need a cup of coffee to wake up a bit, welcome anyway mate even if it is a bit late :)

Just thought to finish this one off I'd report back that I borrowed a sat-nav and my speedo over reads by a fair amount. At around 66mph mine only just reads 60, so much for my optimism. I knew this was a bit of a problem on C's but that seems a touch excessive. Still a fair bit quicker then book time though, so it just goes to show a worn in 16v can be quite a bit of fun if you treat it right (still want a tuned G60 though :) )

Hello mate and welcome to the forum, If you do a search then you'll find this topic has been covered a fair few times in some real detail, that should help you make your mind up. General rule of thumb is cone filters obviously give you a much louder induction roar but unless you have a decent cool air feed/heat barrier then they can actually make less power then a high-flow panel filter. It also makes a difference which engine your C has, as a cone filter for the 1.8 16v is only available from Stroeve and costs around £129 (does look the part though) Let us know what engine you have and I'm sure somebody can recommend something.

To be honest I've never been super bothered about bhp figures, It's all about how you get the power down and the end result that matters. If I added up all of the manufacturer claimed figures from all the bits I've put on mine then I'd apparently have about 210bhp which is obviously never gonna happen. Just as long as my 16 year old toy can hold off the newer stuff for a few more years then I'm happy. It's funny watching high-tune cars putting in slower then book times on the 1/4mile just because the drivers are useless. You'd think they'd leave thier money in thier pocket and just practise launching a bit. As for that ...I think that's best saved for Enterprise rent a cars :)

Not to offend anyone but I thought I'd chuck a few in... Bonnet vents..(unless they lead to a huge intercooler, throttle bodies etc etc, and are genuinely needed) Storm badges not on a storm Single wipers, just never got the point in it. DTM exhausts, bloody horrible looking things and now as dated as the spice girls.

Thats not a bad idea actually, might blag a road angel for an evening. I did that second mfa readout thing which showed my limiter is set at 7400, if I keep my foot in until around 7300 it can hit about 65mph, funnily enough my piston rings have struck me off their xmas card list since I found that out! I think my speedo isn't too far off as it reads around 138 at top wack, not that I've ever seen it with my own eyes officer :)
-
Trust me thats what I thought, I am very realistic about my cars performance and every now and then I do a few little tests to make sure all is well. (When your playing with so few ponies I like to keep track of them so they don't get away) Although I have absolutely sod all torque it is definately a bit spicey off the mark but I didn't expect that, Unfortunately I snapped my gear selector link whist racing a mates 1.8t A3 practicing for the GTI inters 1/4 mile, so missed my chance to get an accurate reading...maybe next year.

Wasn't sure which section to post this in but most the fun stuff happens under 'engine bay' so here goes... How many of you have tried to accurately time your 0-60 times and absolutely destroyed the manufacturer? I'd say my valver runs around 25ish brake more then standard on 15's with half decent tyres but last night I was consistantly pulling 6.7's out with my girlfriend timing it!! I'm aware 'Rado speedo's run a touch quick so she was stopping the clock on around 62mph, and I tried absolutely burying it into the redline in second to get there and also changing into third at around 6500. Does anyone know how aggressive VW are when they test them as I was very, very pleased and would've had to of been driving like a complete muppet to get near the 8.9 as quoted...has anyone else been equally pleased with thier results? P.S...I know in the real world 0-60 times are pretty pointless but it's all a bit of fun isn't it :)

I'd like to put in an official (rather biased) vote of appreciation for the throaty sound of a 16v. My recipe consists of a Milltek, 50mm mani, Power rohr (gay), drilled box with K&N, and modified throttle body. Serve slightly warmed on to the exit of any half decent roundabout and you have a dish fit for kings. As far as all that hitting the limiter malarky goes...surely thats what Enterprise rent a car is there for??? P.S is it me or do the E36 M3 Beemers sound like two robot dogs scratching each others eyes out in a blender when they're opened up, all metallic and sandy like someone forgot to put the oil in.

Most immobilisers activate about thirty seconds after the ignition is turned off, If it was the cause then your starter moter wouldn't turn over as stated in your first post. You'd be amazed how often it turns out to be the ignition switch on cases like these so change that first. Easy and cheap job with a step by step guide on the wiki. You'll also find alot of information by doing a search and reading related threads. Good luck

The easiest way to check for a spark on a valver is to take a plug out, re-attach the lead, place it on your manifold and get a mate to turn it over briefly. Obviously don't touch it but you should be able to visibly see it and also hear it click as it fires. It could be loads of different things but If you narrow it down a touch then you should get more then enough help on here.
-
As I said I don't think they had one on the older valvers but I may be wrong, Hopefully someone can clarify this for me. You have a very valid point about my impeninding ban but I'll need to sell it anyway so I've gotta sort it. Going to buy a scrappy G60 and make it awesome whilst I'm off the road...Stick that in your pipe and smoke it magistrates!

Hello boys and girls, I've got yet another problem with my 16v, I do love dubs and always have but my C has really started to test my patience and make me doubt just how reliable VW's are but I'll persist. My latest problem is my C now runs like absolute crap! the revs are all over the place, The exaust pops and bangs, it stalls and is just generally undrivable. It makes no difference if I've got my foot on the throttle or not and it will be doing it one minute then be fine the next, It has got progressively worse though. I have recently changed the following since it's started so I've ruled out... Throttle body Ignition switch ECU ISV Inlet manifold gaskets Little o rings on the injectors Fuel filter It is well maintained with a recent service and injector cleaner, and engine treatment stuff used a fair bit. I doesn't seem to make a difference if it's hot or cold. When it's not doing it the car pulls very well and sounds spot on. The fuel pump primes fine and buzzes although it does sound pretty loud but it's hard to say if it's louder then usual. To my knowledge the 1.8's don't have a lamda so it's not that either but I might be wrong. Any suggestions are welcome as I have an excessive speeding court case in two weeks and if I'm going to lose my licence I wanna have some fun with it first. Please help

Right, I know engine starting problems are about as much fun to talk about as the current inflation rate but I am having Corrado withdrawel symptoms and need my fix. I'll tell you where I currantly stand as I seem to be making progress... My engine will now no longer start, When I turn the key I can hear the clicking from what I assume is the ignition switch so I'm guessing thats fine. When turning it over I'm also pretty sure I'm not getting any spark to the plugs using one of those little jobs you put in between the wire and the plug so all fingers are pointing at it being ignition. The dizzy cap and rotor arm have been recently replaced and when inspected look fine, No crap or gunk under the cap and the arm spins fine when trying to start it up. The earth strap from the dizzy/rocker cover is in good condition also. Dunno what a hall sender is or if I've got one but I've seen it mentioned in a previous post for a non starter so could that apply to me also? I have no instruments to test the coil and wouldn't know what I'm looking for anyway to be honest. All the HT leads look fine and my lupo wipers haven't fallen off yet (nothing to do with anything I know but thought I'd pass on the good news). My cars getting to that age now where I can't justify spending too much on it to get it sorted so anymore suggestions would be more then welcome...Sorry to ask but I'm clueless.
