ha ha hadnt tightened up the live feed from the battery it runs... like a bag of shite... but it runs, just have to treat it to a bit of a service at the weekend. cheers stoney, much appreciated 8)
-
right i'd missed off an earth from the back of the starter motor so now i'm getting a clicking relay sound? i'll go try the direct live now... back in a few
-
check the connection and it apears all good, just tried the corrado battery in there jst in case and it still doesnt work, when turned to the 'on' position the fuel guage works, registers about 3/4 full tank, cooling warning comes on but each time i try it the clock seems to be on 00:00

Ok after putting the golf back together i had the battery on charge, thats charged so i thought reat i'll start her up and make sure its all good... it wont start literally the lights are on but nobodys home! i've checked the fuses and they're fine but its like the vehicle is imobilised... but the alarms been disconected ages ago! along time before i took it off the road! It wont even turn over its like theres somekind of electrical problem but i have no idea theres an earth cable i think from the block thats cracked off but i'm pretty sure that was broken before as i had it on my scuttle panel. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, cheers andy

yeah i had a similar thought about corrados but then on the way into edition 38 this year i see they're common as muck  8) my argument would be they feel very cheaply built for the money and i've never ever seen one driven carefully around town as it seems the majority were company cars and buying a 3/4 year old one menas that you'll inherit all the problems incurred during the careful ownership! o and if you spent the money a CTR costs on a corrado you could have better suspension and brakes, 300bhp+ leather interior, better stereo and a few choice 'pretty' mods like wheels and lights to make it into a car for your own personal tastes... no brainer in my eyes but i'm biased! o and i cant comfortably fit in a CTR!

careful... not all gtis had 288's and the larger callipers, i've got them on my gti and its a 96 anni but the previous owner told me he bought them from a late model VR, the red paint on them was slightly different from the factory so i'm guessing this was true... i was under the impression most gti's still came with the smaller ones like the corrado vr

auto sol them so you can see your face in it... a lot of elbow grease but seeign as you've brought it up to 2000 grit it should be a relitively quick job, then thoroughly wash and de-greese, buy some 'petrol proof lacquer' from halfords and slowly build up lots of very light coats on the wheel, only slightly dulls the finnish and lasts very well, i did my rocker cover for my 8v golf and it withstands heat and dirt, its worth a try as you can always just nitromorse it off in a few mins if it starts to cloud after a few months -
pics from the bentley manual... an essential bit of kit if going anyhting greasy to the rado... pissses on haynes (not that they did one for the rado)
-
looks good on the sebrings but i reckon you need some door handles  i'm guessing you were in the middle of colour coding when you took the shot?
-
thats useful as the speedlines are gonna be my mot wheels for the golf :-)
-
1) yes but you need to grind a bit off 2) personal opinion but unless you like the look of the drilled grooved disc and /or drive like a nutter i doubt you'll need the extra cooling! 3)i have DS2500 on my golf with 288's... dusty as a mo fo, i'm sticking with the green stuffs i have on my 312's 3) the callipers and carriers are used on late model vr6 mk3's, mk4 golfs/boras etc, udi a3/a4's skoda fabia's/octavias/suberbs i think its only the mk3s though that have the same hose fittings though, hopefully someone can clear it up! look at herisites gallery for when he put the 288's with speedlines on his vr, filled the wheel nicely and he painted the callipers red so you could really see them! 8) o and i dont think you'll get a discount when you tell them, if anything it makes the vehicle more expensive to repair, it'd be nice if it worked though so let usknow how you get on!

tbh with what i'd save on insurance i could probably afford to pay the fines each time i got caught  i think i just need to aquire a left hooker and run random german plate with no link to a uk car and then drive like an absolute lunatic! i wonder if i were to outrun a policeman in a fully german plated car... would they even bother trying to follow it up? might be worth getting a set when you know u have a quick journey to do!.... i've learnt my lesson officer honest!
-
the 2 policemen did say the dvla had just started a amassive crackdown, 'and you wouldnt want to be in troule with them now would you sir' ... c*ck! bit shit though considdering they were yellow at the back, the main problem the copper had was the white rear on mine, just kept shaking his head! O and dom when i got pulled over i wanted to get it over and sone with as quickly as possible and considering he walked right up to the front windscreen and checked the tax disc... kind of gives an english car away and if you dont run a tax disc ur fooked as well! didnt help that the lass in the passenger seat was 5'3"! and my head almost touches the roof :-) so they;d have only see someone in the passenger seat, i swear they only pull you cos they're bored... they cant give a fuck when you actually need they're help! then again if i had to spend my whole life driving a white vauxhaul estate getting abused by chavs i'd be be pretty bored to!

Have you considered painting it in a factory looking engine paint?, i cleaned/ polished my manifold up and used halfords aluminium look paint which you can use on the plastic as well, providing you prepare and mash off the bits you dont want painted it looks brand new again :D
-
id imagine its the same way americans run german front plates on german cars and english front plates on english cars to make them seem more authentic in the states where a front number plate isnt mandatory, theres always the argument that you shouldnt touch the car from when it leaves the factory, a car's just a car etc etc... we wouldnt be on here if we werent interested in keeping our beloved C's on the road and i'd say the vast majority on here have personalised their car in some way, so this was simpy my way of personalising my car to my tastes! O and another thing... got back to my car tonight found it clamped... phoned the clampers they said they couldnt come out till the morning so i thought fuck it, let the tire down completely slid the clamp off and removed the wheel, seems it was chained between the wishbone and the hub so i took the tools out dropped the wishbone and was aout to slide the clamp off... just as the clampers decided to turn up after all and demand £105 and if i did not give them their money they would have it towed, they kept insisting then started thereatening me. I decided it was wisest to pay the fee as i was in a deserted corner of a station car park and didnt wanna chance myluck against the 2. I have just got back from the police station where i went to report indimidation and blackmail, they said they were within their rights to clamp it and charge their advtised fee, seeing as i had paid the fine he was willing to forget that i had told him i removed it as its an offence under the Road Traffic Act to remove a clamp and simply the act of removing it is registered as criminal damage, even if like me you havent even scratched the clamp let alone damaged it. this is punishable with a fine, court apearance and apparently possible custodial sentance... so it seems that there is nothing our great policeforce can do to protect to uk motorist form these cowboys! o and cos they had my registration they'd have just issued a summons to the registered address and it'd go straight to court, appologies to any policemen on here, 3 friends of mine are police officers and they individually are great people but it seems the police force as a whole doesnt give a shit about motorists... theres a supprise!

Well it had to happen some time... after almost 10k with them on i had the comforting sight of bright blue strobing lights pull me over last night driven by a sarky copper! I knew exactly what it was about when he walked up to the passenger side window and asked 'hello sir would you mind getting out of the vehicle?... what do you think i've pulled you over for?' He didn't seem to like the fact that the car or i wasnt german nor did he like the white plate on the back :-( i said very sorry officer they are my show plates and i forgot to take them off after the weekend, just told me to take them off and get in the back of the car [insert obvious joke] I got a £30 fine and the plates confiscated which is fair enough i suppose as they're illegal but he confirmed that speed cameras and number plate recognition cameras dont pivk them up as english plates  ... o and i made the mistake of leaving my hazards on and he started on about the rear indicators beign red... i just said it got through the mot like that, and they are standard... he believed me! :D O and he also said i was lucky as he has the power to inform the DVLA the number plate is beign misrepresented and they could reposses the plate... CNUT! o well i'll just ahve to get some decent english plates made up now :( o and i'll be writing to the evidence locker to get my plates back now the fines been paid!

Lady hit my Corrado this morning! UPDATE: In paint
yeti replied to Lorns's topic in General Car Chat
Any word on this? there are far to few corrado's out this way so it seems a shame for one to get damaged! i usually try to get to the shoe county meet up at the turnpike near j16 and theres only ever been 1 other corrado there :( out of intrest did you used to drive a lil green polo with a black bonnet? -
i like the thought of it slammed on some 20x12" rims... still probably look small in the arches! although if there was a way to lower the c of g enough to make it compete with a golf on the twisties it could embarrs some seriously expersive machinery with that much grunt!

cheers man, they look good in the flesh apart from the nearside rear, its seen a few kerbs aroudn the lips over its short life so i'm on the look put for a new wheel for tha corner, but in no rush, yeah they're t1-s's the turn itn might be due to the side walls, it'd make sense as it really is far more comfortable on the motorway now i let my dad take it for the day last week and as i was driving back home i saw him come round a corner as i was pulling out of a junction, i looked twice thinking wow that looks awesome then i realised it was mine! couldnt stop smiling for a while, th wheels actually seem to make it look smaller which is cool!
