I think the number of opportunities to go over the speed limit in a save environment have been reduced considerably in the last decade. The combination of far more cars on the road, far more speed cameras and a reduction in speed limits in some places has combined to make a sprited drive harder and harder to achieve. I for one would be far happier if we actually had a court system with people who could understand the difference between doing 100mph on a empty well lit motorway at midnight and idiots doing 70mph 5 feet from each other at peak time. Dangerous driving is NOT always speed related, it is very possible to be much more dangerous at a low speed but a speed camera on CCTV wouldn't pick this up. A typical example i regularly see is single carriage way roads which are NSL (60mph) and yet you find people doing 35-40 on them with 3-6 cars backed up behind all 5 feet apart and no one will overtake. This just frustrates other drivers provoking them into making potentially more dangerous overtaking maneuvers that they would normally but if a crash occurs its the overtaking driver deemed to be at fault. I appreciate that a speed limit is that, a limit not a target but flexible speeding fines, penalties and a more case by case basis examination of incidents would be better but realistically it will NEVER happen. Oh an for reference the thread on PistonHeads that will make everyone think twice about daring to discuss how they went on a spirited drive that went wrong is a chap called 10 pence short - now that is a story that really hits home. Surely in south wales the best fun is going through the tunnel on the M4 by Newport- its cracking!!!!

what you need is a BENTLEY manual - http://www.amazon.com/Volkswagen-Corrado-Official-Factory-1990-1994/dp/0837603870/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1291682652&sr=8-1 These were written for North American market cars and yours looks exactly the same so you will find information about the electric seat belts, the air con, auto box and the wiring diagrams for the whole car!!! Strange though when you think a FC pay out will be more than a TPFT as the insurer pays to repair YOUR car and whatever object(s) you damage. Chris Knott are definately worth a car, great bunch and did me a cracking deal :-)

The Driving Force GT is also on my shortlish as i have seen the set up with pedals reduced from £160 to £95 which screams good value and is a lot cheaper than the G27 and Fanatec - tbh spending £3-400 on a steering wheel is perhaps a bit OTT. Im trying to find some reviews on these things as i definately think that to get the most from GT5 a steering wheel set up is essential. dave

my suggestion is to get a garage, not necessarily the one that did the first diagnosis to do a compression test and to sample the expansion tank for Co2. But there are a few more things you can do yourself, Are there any signs of oil and water contamination? If the oil from the head is clean and not watery and the coolant in the expansion bottle is clean and not full of oil then the head gasket ought to be ok. It is possible that the oil cooler is beginning to fail an allowing traces of oily crap into the coolant system, in extreme cases i have heard of a few people shelling out for new headgaskets when it was the (much) cheaper oil cooler that was causing problems allowing oil an water to mix resulting in a horrible mess in the expansion bottle. Another quick test , see what happens when the engine is running and the expansion lid is left OFF - check if the water is bubbling away and there is evidence of smoke coming off the coolant? If it appears normal do the lid back up and continue running engine, wait to see if coolant is forced out of the overflow on the expansion bottle. Also what do the coolant hoses feel like, if there head gasket has gone and the coolant system is being pressurised the radiator hoses will feel rock solid, if they are still squishy then things are ok. see how you get on an let us know dave

I was hooked on this last night. went to a mates house and spent 5-6 hours doing all the B an A class licenses and chunk of the bigginer mode. how many of you lot have steering wheel+pedal set ups? My mate has a Fanatec Porka RS set up and i was blown away by it, i was previously looking at a logitech G25 - anyone got one? Oh an we also played a bit of Forza 3 on the xbox and i can honestly say the geometry and dynamics of the cars + the pitches/cambers of the tracks on GT5 is way ahead of Forza, Same track same cars back to back GT is much more involving and accurate. I was worried that after all the waiting GT wouldnt be AS good as i was expecting but thankfully it looks like its spot on. ps:Can someone please explain how the hell you got still pictures and how you played with the replay settings? i dont get it... dave DAVE

6.50 nice n cheap ! go for it . Dont be fooled by the cheap price, my council garages have gone up from £4pw to nearly £18pw in less than 3 years. The one i have is a 1950s/60s building which is too small to fit a corrado in. Well technically if you have nothing else in the garage and fold the mirrors in you can push the car in and just about close the door but its dam tight and you couldnt possibly drive in in less you were planning a dukes of hazard style exit/entry. dave

posted this in its own thread a while back but its better to have all these together i have the whole magazine available which i will make into a PDF but here is the corrado + G60 section for now. and this A European sports car and more

it could well be the flexible section from the manifold to the downpipe as these often degrade and fracture. 1 test is when the engine is COLD you can hold light bit of rag behind the exhaust manifold section, if its blowing the rag will move in the wind!

2 options really, a second hand head can be bought for £100, a head gasket kit/bolts/water pump/service items add another £100 and you can swap a head (so long as nothing sheers/rounds/breaks) in a day without stressing. OR Find a second hand 2.0 engine for £2-300 and fit the whole thing which a "normal" garage would charge £4-600 depending on if you have service items replaced at the same time. I 2.0l conversion will be a significant change, idealy a ABF engine from a mk3 golf would be the better option as they are newer/often lower millage than the 9A engines that come in corrados and passats but these have a few added complications being a tall block hence the easiest option is the 9A. I built a 9A with KR head running on Kjet and it was good for 165hp and very different to a standard 1.8. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY How has the garage diagnosed a cracked head if they havent removed it already? Could the HG of gone or a seal/core plug in the head instead of the actual head failing? For reference i had a 16v head rebuilt last year an had - 8 new valves - 16 new valve guides - 16 new valve stem seals - 16 valve seats cut an enlarged - mild porting an polishing of inlet/exhaust outlets - new cam chain - new retainers/valve springs That lot cost £240 CASH dave

My brother picked up a copy this morning which I am looking forward to playing when i get home... only 6.5hours to go.... Have seen a brief demo this morning, my bro trying to go around Trial Mountain in a GT500, he really needs to work on his RWD driving skills but the graphics/dynamics looked very good! dave

he appears to be one of those "well i bought them for £650, spend £150 on tyres, £250 on a refurb so they must be worth £1000 so i better put them up for 1200 types. I dont understand why people who fit tyres an refurb wheels think these items add the same value as they cost. I wouldnt pay £250 to paint the centres of some wheels so it cant possibly increase value an TBH being blue that probably limits the appeal and more people will probably be factoring in how much to buy + repaint anyway. that said, 16x8 on a corrado is the perfect compromise dave

I do quite like the Alfas for the wonderful paint and interior combinations that are available. Those seats, door cards and trims look gorgrous and could belong in a car costing twice or three times as much. A friend of mine had a 2.0 Twin spark version - unfortunately a spark proved to be its downfall and the car cought fire whilst he was driving

NAIL ON THE HEAD! Spend £20 and 30min every 3-5k or twice year and your engine will be happy, especially for the G60 owners since the charger is very fussy and doesn't enjoy black sludge being pushed around it!!! dave

my g60 finally started on it. bare shell rebuild.

Yo, To be honest no i have not had a chance to remove the charcoal filter yet. Been ironing out little niggles like a split fuel line, a couple of crap vacuum pipes and rattling exhaust heat shields and other exciting things. The car is likely to come off the road end of this month so the major work can begin then. dave

I spent a fair chunk of Saturday afternoon treating the paint on Mikes corrado. Started off with 2 washes with standard car shampoo, then it was G3'd and had all the tar spots removed (there were lots!). Gave it another wash down before it was left to soak. After shampoo an rinsing it was time to dry an wax, 2 coats of meguiars Canuaba wax, 1 coat of sealer and 2 coats of polish and the paint looks so much better, feels so smooth and the colour really flips from purple to blue. Shame that by time i got the camera out the clouds had come :( and a few with mine, what a contrast a early standard car and a late modified one are! DAVE

Hi everyone, So whilst doing my weekly checks and clean up i notice i have a bit of oil spilt on the top of the rocker cover which is coming from here It's really strange, it is like the hole is pre drilled from the outside and has now been punched through. Any ideas??? i put a blob of silicone over it to stop it leaking but can anyone explain what has happened. PS anyone have a spare rocker cover dave

Grant Motorsport P+P Head, 263/264 Cat Cams, P+P Intake manifold + Throttle body, 6 branch and Miltek system, proberly other things have added to it. Plenty of servicing and maintenace can help. Storm Developments RR it and 229bhp (Will try and find the printout to scan it) and that was with the worn bottom end which has now been replaced with a much fresher lower milage one. As for the Momo's, i think some people wont be a fan of them but i had more crap for the Venoms on my Golf haha

Can anyone remember or is the previos owner still around here? It would be great to be able to fill in a few blanks about the car in its first few years. THANKS for any help DAVE
