  1. A recent article in the British Medical Journal (as reported in Autocar this week) apparantly found after tests, that using hands-free kits is "not any safer" than holding the phone itself. Being suddenly caught in a situation with one hand on the wheel can happen to any of us whether we are using a phone or not: It's the fact that the driver is concentrating on something other than driving which is critical. So...all car phones should be banned, basically :)
  2. Thanks for that guys...
  3. Thanks Dinkus. I may take Corradowale's item if Designrob passes as mine is not 100%. I Could do with some reassurance that a 93 16v panel will subsitute for a 94 VR6 though. Anyone?
  4. Is there no difference between slam panels for early / late cars?
  5. Unknown C at Bromborough Odeon Thursday, watched The Devils Rejects?, only noticed u as you were driving away!
  6. This looks excellent value! Buying direct via the net is the way to go. http://www.vehiclebreakdown.org.uk/vehi ... kdown.html
  7. Very sweet. Silver definately works. And thanks for the CL pump BTW :)
  8. I think at least one guy here has some ongoing involvement with a 306 club. I can only go off the press reviews at the time, which said the 306GTI-6 was the best handling hatch on the market (late-90s), certainly better than the Golf to drive. The Ralleye is a lightweight version of the GTI so should be even better. I think the tendancy to oversteer was reminiscent of the 205, but a bit less extreme.
  9. Anyone who thinks I'm going to get all sentimental can suck my balls. But welcome back anyway ;)
  10. Kevs been one of the most consistently helpful guys on the forum for a long period of time. He's certainly no s*** stirrer, unlike some. Hope he has a change of heart...
  11. Madjackal, there are seperate 'agreed value' policies a small number of insurers offer, which are not the 'market value' policies you get from the big companies like Direct Line, Norwich Union Direct, Elephant etc. When it comes to total loss settlements, agreed value is just what it says so long as there has not been blatent mis-representation of facts.

    My VR6

    Looks truly fine!
  13. Chris Knott use Lancasters, and they never quibbled with the valuation figure I asked for even though Brentacre (surprise) seemed to think I was being wildly optimistic. Worth a shot; and whilst a certificate of valuation is not an absolute guarantee, I'd prefer an insurer to refer to that as a basis for settlement rather than Glasses' Guide.
  14. If you're claim free, try your current insurer. If you keep the drivers the same you will likely get an introductory discount equivalent to your NCD.
  15. Buying a car with an engine replacement can be a good thing, so long as everything else checks out. Just see where any replacement was sourced from, and what length of warranty the engine came with. If 12 months it's probably very good, less than 12 and you should be a bit more cautious. For rebuilds you can probably ask here about how reputable the rebuilder actually is. My own C had an new replacement engine fitted; it was supplied by these guys with a 12 month warranty, just before I bought it : http://www.vege.nl It's been totally reliable and performs to VW specs as Stealth's rollers have confirmed. No idea what the previous owner did to the original VR6, as the rest of the car was in fine condition. A telltale gap in the service history pointed to the fact that he was probably a muppet though... VWSH is overrated, but service history from somewhere is important!
  16. Yeah, the default is designed for the C, and it works just fine.
  17. Highsport are fine. Konigsports are worth the extra if you plan to regularly adjust the damping, but I'll bet most Konigsport owners never vary this. In fact there's little point doing so unless you are using the car in the track IMO. 35-40mm drop on Highsports gives good ride quality and handling. At least, I'm happy with mine. Serch for pics of my car in the gallery if you want to see how it looks. I still have to be careful with speedbumps: Dead slow speed is needed for a few of them round my way, so I wouldn't want to go lower.
  18. Latest model Polo I've driven was a '99, the steering was as dead as dead can be. Never felt so disconnected from the road... Maybe the later models were better?
  19. A rattle and creak-free corrado...hmmm Do you charge for this service Kev? :)
  20. Also drove one of these (briefly), the Focus RS is exceptionally good, and doubtless faster on a track (superior chassis, multi-link rear suspension, the Quaife LSD, not to mention more power) but you might be pleasantly surprised as to how close a good VR6 could get. Either way, I think it would be just as much fun to drive, and that's what really counts.
  21. Thanks for the replies, I'll check the pipes, but will prepare to replace the pump I guess. Gibber u have PM!
  22. So, you won the race and the court case... Result!
