  1. Even Stealth are talking about 8 hours labour for it though, so I'm really not looking forward to trying to do it...
  2. I'm struggling to find a write-up of this, but I've heard it's possible, too...
  3. I note that Impex don't list any shipping details for outside of north america....
  4. Dunno, I doubt the dealers will miss an opportunity to cripple us all with a *new* part, but it's got to be worth a try..
  5. How much is the ..AX part (refurbed) from the dealer then?

Yeah, a bank transfer can be done from your bank, but within europe they may charge up to £20 for the privilege.. :( And even sending insured cash you're still going to have to go to a bank and pay exchange rates etc. Won't cost as much as the bank transfer, tho.
  7. The blue wire only effects the auto-raise/lower. The spoiler would still work on the switch. I presume you're getting no volts at the spoiler motor when the switch is operated then?

i think IIRC its also the fuse for the fuel pump or engine management :?: Yup, think it's the fuel pump, for some slightly insane reason.

I hope either the guy takes PayPal or you remembered to take into account the international money transfer costs...
  10. Fortunately you only need to show 16% of total (4-wheel) braking power at the rear wheels when using the handbrake to pass the MOT.. If it was made any more stringent, VW would suddenly have to start fitting proper rear handbrake mechanisms or something..! :)
  11. It does both, and yes it's almost inaudible in most cases, unless you stick your head next to it.
  12. You need a new *LOWER* tensioner? That's weird, as that one normally out-lasts the upper tensioner by some large margin.
  13. It's on all the time with the ignition.
  14. No. And it's nearly impossible to find out, unless you know someone at the DVLA with some spare time on their hands...
  15. But it's the innards that you're interested in, not the tube.. I remember reading about all this on the Vortex 12vVR6 forum, but it definitely seemed like a lot of hassle finding the right part..
  16. It's the dual-K line cars the older cables won't talk to. It physically doesn't have the right number of connectors. Check out the VAG-COM site for more details. http://www.ross-tech.com/
  17. No, we didn't go the measuring blocks route (though I thought about it afterwards). Might have been interesting, but it didn't occur to me at the time. (It was hard enough getting communication to the ECU in the first place, didn't wanna talk to us.) Given that nothing around there has changed, I doubt the pipes are crimped. They may have suddenly started leaking, but given that the reported symptom was "fail to start", not "stalled, then failed to start", I'm inclined to think that the moving part (the ISV) seized during the time it was left standing.
  18. I offered that as an option too, Ice White Socks, but ultimately it may be aswell to just get a new one. BOSCH n/a 436440050 IDLE CONTROL VALVE £138.20 Not that they're cheap, mind...
  19. VAG-COM reveals all. I went to visit Jon's VR today (had a great spin in the simply awesome 5 litre, 350 lbft, TVR Chimera too!), laptop and cable in hand. Having finally got the laptop to talk to the ECU (not quite sure why but it did seem to take a little time to connect up), we figured out that the car is showing: 00336 Idle Speed Adaptation Limit Reached And that's the only code shown, so we're guessing the problem is the ISV. We also found a front/left ABS sensor out. So after the computer bits, I took him out for a spin in my VR so he can see the point of the Schrick manifold. I think it left a good impression, even if the cabin rattles didn't.. :) So, we're guessing GSF/ECP are the usual suspects for the best price for a replacement ISV then! Oh, and Jon, if you wanna let me know the name of your mechanic bloke and some contact details I'd maybe consider using him for my VR too. :)
  20. Ooops, better not tell her I stole it from a comedian in edinburgh then, had I! :)
  21. Seriously, Jedi, I think Gold will look stoopid on your car. It's not going to match *anything*. You have a green car, with silver wheels and black plastic trim... Pick one. :) I note you've even gone for clear side repeaters...
  22. I would have voted earlier, but my brain hurt with all the apostophes in the wrong places, and I had to click "back" before it fell out my ears. Sorry. ;) :-P
  23. Hmm. There's a "short bee-sting" aerial? How much? And how short? If it's identical, just about 30% shorter, sounds ideal! :) Oh, and would love to see what's in the door handle repair kit!
