Get a compression test done and a leakdown test first to try to diagnose the problem. Generally a headgasket shows as white smoke. Oil burning causes blue smoke which could be down to the rings or valve stem seals (normally more prominent on start up and ease off when warmed up). Using loads of water can signify the headgasket but could also be due to a leak. You may have a combination of any of the above.

Have you checked the lambda?

A Big Thank you to Tandino for the quick delivery of the VR6 engine plastics, excellent condition and have improved my bay no end. Also a belated thank you to CazzaVR for my BBS RXII's (sorry didn't notice this thread) Ive not got round to fitting them but have stripped the lacquer from the Rims to remove the water runs. Think they will look the nuts on. :D

The 1st man with the camera appears to be leaning on the car. I couldn't have that, Id have to get it resprayed :gag:

The smoke on start up up dosen't look too bad, on warmp up it does. When I first got my car it smoked similar but had stood for 4 months without being driven. Turned out it was a clogged fuel filter and needed a good run. Have you tried checking the coolant tank with a headgasket tester for exhaust fumes in the coolant? Maybe your new headgasket hasn't sealed.

Has the car stood a while? Could be fuel problem. Has the fuel filter been changed recently?

Do they Whoosh though? I like that sound 8)

If yours uses or burns oil wouldn't you be better off using a slightly thicker oil ie 15W40. My previous car burnt oil and I used castrol high mileage which certainly slowed down the consumption. It was about £16 for 5l. Its meant to contain additives which cause seals to swell lowering the amount of oil that can pass them. Personally I think thats crap but slows consumption down just because its thicker.

Its when there is too much fuel being used. The car needs the correct air/fuel mixture. The lambda or CO2 sensor monitors it and the ECU adjusts the mixture. If the sensor is fubared the ECU can incorrectly increase the fuel ratio. Too little fuel is known as running lean. Running rich is also signified by black smoke out of the exhaust.
-
Running rich will show as sooty deposits on the spark plugs. A faulty Lambda can often cause the car to run rich. Worth checking.

Looking good. What strut brace is that and do you find it makes much difference to the handling? Been thinking of getting one.

Nice, Very nice. I like the contrast of the grey dash/seats with the black. Those mats look good too; Good luck keeping them clean. :D

Mine was due to the foliage grill leaking but the water still felt oily. Definitely wasn't the matrix.

Ive been reading the following thread with some interest http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=46242&start=15&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=tt+steering+wheel. My question is, Will the Mk5 Gti Steering wheel just slide on like the standard wheel. Im not worried about using the horn. My other question is how does the air bag fit in the center section, again I don't want it to work just to look right. Read somewhere that you might have to debag it, is that easy or necessary? Im sure someone must have one or a late style wheel on their corrado.

Nice looking C but please don't park so close to my car next time.

Hey, Thats my car, I always leave it in that spot when I need new tyres and a clean, works every time. :D

Might also be a good idea to check for any air leaks and spray some carb cleaner in the air intake tube and throttle body.

I would second changing the fuel filter. My car had been standing for about 4 months and drove with symptoms like yours. I drove it to its test and it cut out on me 3 times with lack of power almost like it was out of fuel. It always restarted and after it got warmed up drove fine. I changed the plugs and all filters, got my local garage to change the fuel filter and clean the fuel system through. They said there was a hellava lot of crap in there. Its ran fine since.

Hi Everyone. I bought a Dragon Green VR6 as an MOT failure and what with changing my job the car has sat on my drive for the last 4 months. It failed on emissions and I bought a used cat & Lambda off here to see if that helped. It didn't need it, changed the plugs, oil and all filters, put some clean burn in and passed emissions no problem. Ive wanted a corrado for as long as I can remember and am thrilled to finally drive one. The car struggled on my first drive, really hesitant at low revs in 1st and 2nd and cut out on me 3 times. Restarted no problems and once warmed up it drove great. Ive suspected my battery was fubarred and bought a new one today. It definitely turns over with more vigour and although it felt like it was being held back initially, it cleared and drove great after a couple of minutes. Im hoping the initial hesitancy is down to the standing time and will pass with regular driving. The car surprised me in that you don't feel how fast you are going until you look at the speedo or rear view mirror. The car seems to sit at oil temp of 104 (is that ok?) The car is completely standard with a black leather interior in really excellent condition. Only one previous owner :D ,Only 160K miles. The car has a couple of dings and could do with some renovating, which Im looking forward to doing over time. Looking forward to meeting some fellow C owners and will post some pics soon.

Still Unsure of where my ISV is; anyone got a pic? Is it easy to disconnect or do other things have to be removed to get to it? Cheers Mark

Thanks Guys, Sounds like a new battery then. Dr mat: Yes,I charged the car for 24hrs but left the battery in place as Ive got the type of charger where you don't have to remove the terminals. Ill get halfords to check it, but sounds like its had its day.
