I started a very similar thread, which Ive seen you have been referred to. The talcum powder worked for me, but it has already started to squeal again, within a week. Not a problem, just put more talc on every week

Nope, dosen't do anything.

VR6 Puff of smoke when it starts up - implications?
PROVR6 replied to snattrass's topic in Engine Bay
Most likely is VSSeals or piston bore wear. You can check for wear with a compression/leakdown test. However yours seems more like VSS as its a classic sign of it doing on start up in the morning. The oil slowly passes the seals overnight while not being used and gets burnt off as soon as you start the engine in the morning. The fact that it dosen't do it the rest of the day is because not enough oil has got past the seals between firing up the car. (If you look closely, especially at night under headlights you will see that the oil is actually burning all the time but without much noticeable smoke) My old ST24 had the same symptoms. I tried some wynns additive to see what happens and it will slow the amount of oil burning but only because the additive is effectively a thicker oil. By switching to a higher Viscocity oil will also slow your oil consumption but if you go too thick your engine won't be protected, especially on start up. My car was using about a litre of oil every 400 miles (which is bad), by changing to a higher grade oil I got about 700 miles per litre (1 litre being the diff between min and max on the dipstick). Performance was unaffected and I drove another 15000 miles troublefree before selling the car.. Ive read by changing the seals can reduce oil consumption to virtually nil. I was quoted 400 quid to have mine done but didn't bother cause I wasn't gonna keep the car much longer. Just made sure I checked the oil every week and topped up as necessary -
I think you might be thinking of this site, which gives a guide to changing the wheel http://www.corrado-vr6.info/articles.htm As others have said the horn just prises off if you give it a good equal pull with your fingers underneath. It is really easy to do but I had to adjust mine a couple of times as the wheel didn't look straight when driving even though I thought my wheels were straight when I changed the wheel.

God Darn it, it worked. Made a bit of a mess with the talc though and made myself a nice paste engine  I guess the belt is a bit loose. How do you tighten it? Ive seen you can thread a bolt in to loosen the tension but how do you increase it. As an aside, my car sometimes cuts out at low revs (you don't even notice it until you see the lights on the dash) usually happens at junctions if I use a slow downshift. The engine will restart by releasing the clutch. Could this be linked to a loose belt as I know it works the alternator?

Nice. I think the cream leather for corrado's is the best of the bunch. Have you retrimmed them or just cleaned them up?

That sounds Crazy, love it. Have to ask the missus if I can borrow some cause I never use it :camp: If that works it'll be chuftie of the day :D

I haven't removed the belt yet but plan to over the weekend. I squirted some silicone spray on the belt/pulley and it dramatically reduced the squeal at idle but made no difference when the throttle is pulled. Im pretty sure its on the drivers side. It had a new clutch a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the reply Tom. I have indeed seen the guide. Its obviously a lot cheaper than a new tensioner but Ive read you have to be spot on with the new bearing or it can seize and shred the belt instantly. I also read that getting the belt on is tricky. I don't have any means of jacking the car up, can the bearing be done and the belt refitted from the top of the car? Ive done a few searches, and seems there are some peeps with similar problems. From the threads it suggests a failing water pump could also make this noise and by reducing the tension on the belt can confirm this. Im not sure what that means, i can see if you release the tension on the belt and the squealing goes away it could be the belt. But what would it do to the water pump, get louder or disappear?

My VR has started squealing bad but can;t be sure if there isn;t a rattle. Its definitely coming from the drivers side of the engine and I think its related to the Aux serpentine belt. I had this changed for a cheapo (GSF or Eurocarparts) one, cost about £15. It didn't make a noise when it was done about 2 months ago but I only drive the car a couple of times a week. Ive noticed the top of the tensioner unit moves a bit when the engine is running but I guess thats normal. I changed my ECU and fuel pump relay tonight and when I fired the car up the noise was worse than ever (coincidence?). Swapped back the old relays noise still the same. At idle the noise was loud so I sprayed some 3 in 1 silicone spray on the belt and tensioner and the noise immeadiately subsided. However as soon as you rev the car the squeal continues and gets louder with the engine speed. I took it for a drive and performance was spot on but the noise was there, it stops though when you depress the clutch and change gear. Do you guys think this is the aux belt/tensioner (hope so) or could it be engine related?

Good on ya, thats helped me no end especially the part No's. Ive already started cleaning the calipers/carriers by using a knotted wheel on the angle grinder. Its not come up as shiny as yours though.

Im wondering if anyone can help me. Ive done the usual search but can't easily seem to find the VW part Nos. Im after an ECU Relay, Fuel Pump Relay and ABS Relay. Does anyone know the Part Nos or can I just rely on VW to know which ones I need. Cheers.

So in theory, they could take your £40 and then advise that the test is not necessary. Cheeky barstewards.

Im going to be doing the same thing, is there a how to with Pics anywhere on this as I know its a popular mod? I know you can get refurb kits with various seals and stuff but not sure what you need or whether you need it at all.

This happened on my first ever car, a Ford Escort, Cut out on me at a roundabout once :gag: when downshifting and caused others to brake. Started up again by releasing the clutch ie jump start but you was always on edge when it might happen.

Ive had a few cars that did this, as if the pressure is being released when the cap is removed. Never really considered it a problem. Is it affecting performance at all?

Ive been touching up my stone chips and resprayed the underside of the cill sections where the paint has been eroded by salts and chipped. The piece of Trim under the Front Grill is absolutely peppered with chips and would take forever to touch in. It seems very loose but dosen't pull out. Is it easy to remove as Id like to fill the chips and spray it?

You may need a new lambda sensor and maybe even a new cat but there are a few things to try first. I bought my car as an MOT failure (it had failed emissions). I bought a second hand cat off of here to try and get it through its MOT. I changed all the filters, air, oil, fuel etc and changed the oil and spark plugs as the car hadn't been serviced in a while. I also filled the car hal full of high octane fuel and bought some wynns clean burn to reduce emissions. Took the car for an hours run first and it passed the MOT without using the CAT.

Purple VR6 on Ebay - Can anyone on here offer help?
PROVR6 replied to Pete's topic in General Car Chat
Hi. I don't know the car, but there's no point doubting whether its a good un or not from the pics. If hes asking 6K for it, that would explain why its not sold quick. The only way of knowing is inspecting the car unless someone on here has knowledge of the car. If it were me I would ask the owner if the car smokes, uses any oil or water before travelling a long distance to view. I would also ask for a new MOT to be put on as I see it runs out soon. The car looks in pretty good nick from the pictures, but the seller has hardly done his best to sell the car. Just my 2p. -
Thanks Dukest, just need to get some rubber on em now then.

Ive got some 5 stud 16" RXII's to replace my speedlines on my VR6. Can I use the same wheel bolts or do I need to buy longer ones?
-
When driving, I get a windy noise on the drivers side as if the window is slightly open. Its not though, anyone else had this and any ideas on how to alleviate it. I guess corrados don't have the quiest of cabins.

Ive got a VR6 and I think halfords wanted £90 for the cheapest one. I went to Partco and got one for £45, the cranking power wasn't as high but starts on the button. I don't drive my car much, once a week maybe, keep a trickle charger on it and it never goes flat.

Car looks good, real good. I understand what others are saying about the front lights and although I prefer stock ones, I like em and are growing on me. I saw the brakes you bought, look huge, have you got them on yet? be interested to know how they feel when you do.
