  1. Mine did exactly the same thing about six months ago- I think you can repair a coilpack that is causing a misfire because its got open cracks- but yours sounds like its completely failed; you might even find its got no cracks in at all (mine looked perfect even after 110k- but had failed completely internally). Think I got mine from ECP out on the hillsborough road- about £152 :(
  2. Looks a nice neat Install. I don't understand why its fitted if its not the right size one? i have a BMC fitted and its fills the whole left side of the bay ie its a LOT bigger. Even then I had a lot of problems getting the air feed positioned *just* right as was it was strangling slightly as full chat. I guess this is the 225 bhp TSR engine then- even more reason not to fit a cheap filter that looks half the size of the proper part :?
  3. Cheers for the kind comment Glenn :) I had a quick looky over on your gallery and yours is a lovely looking C 8)
  4. Couple of new pics - plus some of my 'other' Evo 5 star small coupe!! Bought as a second car for the Corrado- its VERY good fun- would recommend to all!
  5. Hi Paul, You haven't got the door cards out have you? and the switches pushed out of the way behind the door foil? I know your car is quite often 'work in progress' ! Same thing happened to me in the above situation- the switches dropped into the back of the door- got wet & windows wound up and down by themselves! If not then maybe one of the leccy window switches has failed internally? Cheers Mike
  6. Its a question I have never really seen answered on here TBH (other than using trial and error on the linkage cables). There is a special tool shown in the Bently manual but I have never heard of anyone having one. It IS adjustable and its also a two minute job. Stealth did mine and it made a big difference. Plus I remember something about there needing to be a 'c' ring on the left of the linkage assembly under the gearstick- some people are missing this which has caused them problems. HTH- Mike
  7. I had a loose fuel pump relay that gave these symptoms... might be one to check
  8. Cheers James- I got a second car because I do quite a lot of work miles and I wanted to take the pressure off the Corrado a bit. I'm realising now that leaving it stood is doing it more harm than good so I'll start using it at for at least a week and half each month at the mo- and then much more in summer. I haven't commented yet in your members gallery- but your turbo VR looks stunning- good work fella! :)
  9. Incidentally the car is stood and has been for say eight weeks now (bar the occasional 'joyride'). The number of things that are failing is beyond belief; for example the main beams had also gone last night as well (a PITA because weatherproofing the loom again was on my list of things to do). Just goes to show how quickly electrics can deteriorate when they aren't being dried out by that big VR everyday!
  10. Cheers for the advice- the car IS in its original coilpack; I'll get it replaced.
  11. Aye your right Jay- When I wrote the post I genuinely thought I had trashed the engine- it sounded that bad! Been looking through some old posts and a few people have had this symptom when one of the coils in the coilpack failed (I think meaning it would then be running on 4cyls). I'll check the plugs tmrw! Cheers
  12. Hello Took my VR out for a spin this evening. Car was going like a rocket until I hoofed it up one my fav bits of dual carriageway, it accelerated fine up the gears, but suddenly started sounding REALLY bad on the overrun and I have just managed to limp it home. Oil pressure is fine, the engine sounds like its running on three cylinders with no power at all, for some strange reason the idle is fine, there is no strange knocking and the header tank isn't overly pressured There was a faint smell of electrical burning but I can't see any obvious damage to the fusebox or any of the loom. Has anyone got any ideas what the prob could be? Could the chains have jumped a tooth? Could the coilpack have suddenly failed (can they suddenly fail?), are there any other sensors which could fail and cause the car to run so bad? Any help much appreciated Mike
  13. Thats just what it could be- a broken wire/ connection in the element. Mine was as you describe- either seat worked or the relay buzzed. I would take the base pad element out (its the one which gets most abuse and is most likely to be damaged). You should be able to see where the damage is and whether its repairable.
  14. Aye- like you say, better of switching the relays first and seeing if that fixes it- stripping the seat down is a bit more involved! (although on the plus side you can replace the seat base & bolster at the same time :) )
  15. I have replaced the heating element in the seat. From my experience it was the broken element in the seat that caused the relay to buzz.. There is a very good how-to which talks you through the seat stripdown. On my car one of the wires had come off the heat sensitive resistor in the seat pad itself (looks like a watch battery). I cut through the fabric, carefully soldered it back, and used elastoplast to cover it back up. Its worked fine every since :)
  16. Yep- I did this on a mates Seat- the rivets were too big for any of the three riveters I had lying around- might be worth making sure you have the right rivets and a BIG riveter before you start :)
  17. Some nice comments about the C VR6 under 'performance' in a review of the time 8) Edit- mmm doesn't open too well in the browser window- maybe save the file and view in windows picture viewer- its a nice read
  18. Its suprising how many unrelated things can appear to happen at the same time. I Don't think its enough just clearing the scuttle- you'll need to take the vent off and reseal it somehow (one clip). My seal was in good nick but still leaked. I cleaned out the scuttle properly (there is a whole load more space for crud once you take the cover off)- then cleaned & greased the seal & no more probs :)
  19. gggrrrr- Had my VR in Stealth yesterday for a full suspension rebush etc. The overall rear alignment was 0.2 out (similar to tekara's readout in the first post). Its never scrubbed rear tyres or anything but I want it to be right so its going back in to have the stub axle shimmed. I'll let you guys know how much it actually ends up costing (luckily I still have one kidney left after yesterdays bill- anyone interested :-P )
  20. I have the guide for adding a new key fob- (they actually came with the new key fob). I'll PM over but might be later in the week (away with work at the mo) 8)
  21. Nice Pic Ben (now the new desktop)- The colour looks really nice in that light too :D
  22. I was chatting with a customer about the cars we had owned- when I told him I had a Corrado VR6 he said 'are they the ones that fall to pieces if you crash them :? ' which rather deflated me a bit- I have never heard that about Corrados before. Later in the day I was with one of the big bosses and had Leavons 'on the seventh day god made Corrado' wallpaper on my laptop- it turned out he had had VR6 when they first came out- he didn't think much of it apparently :( One of them days I guess..
  23. Yeah I saw that too- I yelled Corraaadoooooo at the TV without even thinking
  24. Be interested to hear how you get on Jim- I also have 'terrifying' handling- i'm just trying to accumulate some pennies and then its going in to Stealth for the works. I was going to get the track rod ends changed anyway along with a whole load of other stuff- but never considered the bottom ball joints :?
