Unless you're willing to collect and have 5 good tyres lying about, I'd prob go for Daves if I were you.

Sam, i've uploaded all the pics as I've gone along. If you flick back a few pages you'll see that the hub is currently a replica of standard. Again, we've covered that already in the last 2-3 pages. We decided that modding the hub would cause interference with the outer cv / driveshaft when suspension is in droop, and possibly other issues too so we are currently looking at the BJE again. For those interested, I've attached a few pics of a basic concept BJE i knocked up for the 60mm lowering setup. It's kind of primitive and a first attempt at a design that meets the requirements. It was tricky trying to keep clearance around the nut to allow for a spanner and also keep strength in the component, but i'm sure the design will evolve. The tapered section is based on IGEs data for the LBJ, approx 18mm long with an inward draft of 5.6 degrees. The upper pin section doesn't actually need the allen key slot in the top as it won't twist like the original LBJ does, but it's all just a mock up for now. If anyone can see how the BJE could be better designed whilst meeting all requirements for tool clearance, strength, and geometry I'd love to hear some ideas.

True. I can stress analyse it here, even leave it running ni the background whilst I work on something else. What do we think a reasonable stress level would be? How about fully bottoming out suspension and modelling 1/4 car weight through the BJE? Say, equivalent of 350kg? We can always make it out of really thick metal. There should be space with the 60mm clearances to get some real steel in there! :D

60mm drop - approx 12mm clearance at closest points. Pics for comparison

Try posting in Wanted section.

Cheers Jay :D Ironically, it looks like it will be easier to create a BJE for a larger amount of lowering purely due to the greater clearance between intended LBJ position and lowered hub.

If you want to get really technical and do some deeper research, you'll find out which is the best side to port match and which you should leave alone. Sometimes porting and polishing everything isn't the best idea.

Just looked for the standard 4cyl BJEs on the market. One set is £150 a pair :suprised: and the other is £80 a pair but show use only! Shows how confident they are in their own design really.

Ok, so I did a fair bit of work on this yesterday, continuing when I got home. This stage is what I call "The Dilemma". You know what needs to be done,b ut it's just the design process of making something useful, strong, safe, cheap and successful. I've offset the actual hubinto the "lowered 30mm" position just the same as the upper LBJ in the pics I posted above, whilst I left the LBJ and wishbone (for want of a better word!) in the standard position - dead flat to the ground. I have attached the pics. Basically the gap between the LBJ and the hub is where our designed BJE will go. As you can see it looks like a mission. Don't worry too much about the fact that the LBJ "cuts" into the hub - the joint will rotate around in real life of course but I've not modelled it as a joint in the computer (may pay me to do so in fact). At a 30mm lowered height, you can see there is really not much space at all to fit between the standard position LBJ and the lowered hub. I am starting to wonder whether using a 4-cyl LBJ with the waisted section (and base the bottom of the BJE around this instead of the VR LBJ) would be a much better idea. AFAIK, the 'pin' of the 4cyl LBJ is nowhere near as long as the pin on the VR LBJ, so this may give us more room. I had to remind myself that you VR boys not only have to get an M12 locknut in there but you have to put in a 6mm(?) allen key into the top to tighten that nut up and secure it in place. This leaveas us with more clearance issues. Anyways, have a look at the pics and have a think and let me know what you come up with :D I know someone (probs Sam?) was thinking about using a 4cyl LBJ previously so maybe this would work. We obviously have to consider the impact this would have on the suspension geometry and whether it will be viable to replace the LBJs for one another. My 2p for today :salute:

     @ Steve's post despite being a complete newbie back in 2008 when I got my C, I made an effort to register with CCGB (Plum had a window sticker so the car already had a history within the club), find out who from CF was near me and ended up meeting up with some local people like Toad in Winchester and other people around that area. Remember having a great BBQ at Tom's before the White VR6 was up and running, and he also came out to help me in the middle of the night when my water pump pulley disintegrated on my way back to Oxford after a friend's wedding. Met with Rob aka dirtytorque a few times (who still has my tuning books!) and kept in touch through PMs and emails etc. Also went to British Volksfest 2008, and made a plea on the forum that my C was in bits and I'd appreciate some company. To my delight John aka dukest picked me up from my doorstep(!) in Oxford, ferried me there and back (for beer tokens) and even let me share his tent for the overnighter. Was upset we had to pay £30 on the door for arriving so late but never mind. I remember talking to Yan about cylinder head / engine books and tuning guides, and having some sausages and bacon with Yan/Toad/Steve in a little tent :) So in my own experience I can say that the whole group are a great bunch when you get to know them. Being an outsider is hard in any situation - it's just a component of the society we live in I'm afraid. When you're with your friends you almost "shun" other people (albeit at a subconscious level) and then vice versa when you are in unfamiliar surroundings. I'm still very much hoping to keep in contact with people through the forum and meets / event days, and I am disappointed I missed the Stealth day due to my birthday weekend and subsequently lacking money! Edit: I also met the King and Queen of Concours, and Judith very kindly donated me some window glass :salute: there was a scary bloke with wild hair and crazy eyes chirping on about "US Spec" a lot, but I tried to avoid him... :?

Tom, some pics of mine can be seen in my project thread here They're from a couple of years ago but I have no reason to believe they will be in any less condition as i'm not prone to hitting kerbs(!) I'll get some pics for you when it's not pouring down in Oxford. As mentioned they will need new tyres due to being stood for so long.

I had the same issues with CloudFlare. Also took a long time to "retry live version" so I'll try the direct route next time :)
-
Yeah they have but there are other places around that can do supercharger parts.
-
Thanks, it's much appreciated :D :salute:

I'm glad it's getting sorted. Do you think it would be unreasonable to ask for a timeframe for downtime (so when the sign says down for 30mins we'll know roughly when the site is expected back up?) Or perhaps a blanket email to all users saying the site is/will be down for maintenance. 2p :-)

my C had a lot more rust than my golf. IMO the older VWs last much better. didn't the paint change to water-based in the last few years from 2-pack? there's an 07 passat that parks near my golf and it has more rust. 22 years old versus 5years old.

if you live in south london you GET debadged. regardless of car.

Sure fella no probs. I'll take it you don't want the PAS lines. How does £130 for frame axle and pas rack sound? Saves me dismantling it from the frame! I can take them off when you're there if you like then you'll know how to refit them :salute: ---------- Post added at 09:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:09 AM ---------- Ok fella, I guess you'll want it delivered too (unless you fancy an epic road trip?) ---------- Post added at 09:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:17 AM ---------- £10 posted? IIRC it has a rust scab about 2" long on the upper lip where it goes under the spoiler (hope i'm thinking about the right part?) I'll try to get some pics for you. ---------- Post added at 09:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:28 AM ---------- Sorry Jonny, I don't have time to arrange packing and delivery for something so big. If the other offers to collect fall through then I'll let you know. Cheers :salute: ---------- Post added at 09:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:33 AM ---------- @ray_vr6, if the deal with silverfox falls through you will be second in line for subframe delivery.

If he's binning that charger I'd be happy to have it off him for an R&D project :norty:

^^^ that's not a sunroof switch!

Basically, Tom is gonna buy it and he's gonna love it. Whether he loves it more than Darth Vader's car is another matter.
-
Are you willing to remove them yourself? I'll let you keep the bolts! :D Also do you want the PAS rack or will that need splitting? ---------- Post added at 08:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:10 PM ---------- Would you be able to pay now and pick up next month, or would you rather pay later? ---------- Post added at 08:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:11 PM ---------- Yes mate, it's from an early 16v (car in my sig). ---------- Post added at 08:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:12 PM ---------- Ah yes I know the bits you mean! I'll have a look for you mate :salute:

Early Hazard light switch, same as anything else?
boost monkey replied to leeeeshad's topic in Interior
Early hazard light (on top of steering column) is identical to late mk2 golf spec :salute: -
I used to rock a mk2 Golf C - 4speed awesomeness!

Good point. I've started mocking up the 30mm one. As per the screenshots, the the LBJs are quite close so designing a piece that will fit both positions is a little tricky but I'm sure we will get it done.
