I say go for it if that's what you want :D

A Corrado is one of those slow bake cakes that starts to crumble *just* as you're about to ice it. If you know what I mean.

PMSL@Mike, so true! So many random things went on my 16v when I just went for a drive. Thanks Steve, I think I has a internets. There's a little box my computer plugs into. I think the internets is in there. ---------- Post added at 02:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 PM ---------- @Ant, I think the mk4 meets our needs. I mean, my wife wanted a Lupo at one point so I don't think she is too worried about space! I did tell her that a Lupo is a 2-seater in reality because you'd need to use the rear seat space if you want to put more than a twig in the boot. Sometimes I picks up two twigs. -

Free MOTs even with an older Audi? That sounds pretty good. Where can I find out more? -

Yeah, AC isn't a must tbh nor is the leather. I'd rather have a reliable diesel car that's nice to be in than a few extra toys! My wife's just been in my mum's volvo too often with heater leather seats, esp at this time of the year! Thanks for the oil tip, I'll keep that in mind. -
DBP = Dark Burgundy Pearl aka paint colour. I'm guessing that's what yours is? (Paint code LC3U). Does it actually need a respray? I'd get the engine issues sorted first.

Nice to see another local DBP :D

Cheers coullstar, that's great advice. How come the 130 is the pick over your 150? did you think the extra grunt wasn't needed? -
You can have the suspension off my Plum if you like as i'm breaking it now :( They are complete VR6 Gas Struts (Boge Turbo up front with top mounts, Boge Advantage at the back – with new VAG parts (16v springs) only covered 20 miles! I'm looking for £100 for all 4 plus postage (if needed). Jon.

Jack and axle stands - any recommendations?
boost monkey replied to Portent's topic in General Car Chat
Sounds like you're bitter over the halfords jacks simply because you didn't use it properly! Why are you surprised your car slipped from the jack? Sounds like misuse to me, plus where were your axle stands? My halfords items have lasted about 5 years (not 5mins! ) and still working fine. -

Ah yeah, forgot those! Cheers matey :D -
As the title, would perfer to stay VAG (so VW, Seat, Audi TDis) and something with a little bit of poke would be nice (sub 10 0-60 time). Deffo a hatchback for now, was thinking maybe a Mk4 Golf/Polo TDi or something similar. I love the mk2 gti, but as with Pat McCrotch and his daily Integra it's just too hard not to drive it and too easy to see 30mpg from every tank and not much more! The missus would like leather seats and I don't mind a few gadgets (probs leather and aircon are my mains) so anything above that i'm not too fussed with. Can be a 3dr or 5dr too. So far i've been looking at Golfs, Polos, the odd Passat and Bora, Leons and Ibizas, and even some old Volvos tbh! Not really dipped into Audi A3 mk1 kind of stuff as I know they're just a primo version of the Golf. Budget of 3k max is a proper maximum. Obviously I'd rather pay £1-£2k for a nice example, but I just don't kno what prices are like at the mo. If anyone has any good ideas, I would love to hear them! Cheers, Jon.

that headlight is for a left hand drive. I'd steer clear unless you know it can be modified/adjusted to work over here. 2p. However if you need a pair of lights.... :norty:

Did they make a VR in 91? I thought it was a late only model :?

Ok cool, I'll be cracking on with the BJE project now then. going to flick back a few pages to Kip's post about wishbone lengths etc :D will post up what I find. ---------- Post added at 09:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:39 AM ---------- @Kip, when you said that the hub moves in by 1.27mm due to a 30mm drop, won't some of that be taken up by the ball joint? i.e. the ball joint "shaft" will move to counter this inboard motion so that the hub remains in relatively the same place?

omg I want your garage!! ---------- Post added at 08:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:21 AM ---------- @first silencer issue, are you sure it's actually that close to the tunnel itself or just the heatshield? I mean the tunnel is round obviously, but the heatshield is kinda triangular either side so it would probably be closer to the shield whilst still being a good distance from the tunnel. Not trying to teach you to suck eggs though! Saying that it does look a fatty, and someone up there ^^ said there's knocks so you're prob doing the sensible thing with leaving it out for now.

The Monkey's Daily - Mk2 Golf GTi 8v [straight through MOT]
boost monkey replied to boost monkey's topic in Members Gallery
I managed to do the leaky coolant hose this weekend. It was the little bendy ones which goes from the metal water pipe just before the pump up into the oil cooler plate. I pinched it off the Corrado so that was a good job done! For the sake of a £5 hose I must have used £10 G12 plus through little top ups here and there! I also started doing the vac lines with the hard white plastic tubing, but quickly realised there's one 3 pipes which are made from this - a long coming out of the airbox and going to a T-junction by the fuel rail, a short one going between two different points on the side of the airbox, and the one for the MFA going through to the clocks (which I left). I hadn't realised but all the other stuff is the braided cotton hose (internal diameter 4mm IIRC) so I didn't get very far on that job! The other success I had was fixing my dodgy wiper stalk at last. I fitted a brand spanking new early mk2 non-MFA item with the hope of swapping the ends over and keeping the MFA switches. Unfortunately, the ends of the stalks are different and the 1 > 2 MFA position notch is actually moulded into end of the stalk itself. But I'm feeling confident as it's such a basic switch. 4 pins - pos and neg for MFA 1>2 switch, and pos and neg for the sensor cycling. I'm going to build it into one of the dash blanks and mount above the headlight switch on the right hand side of the dash. I'll play with the cad and get something knocked up which looks period and fits in. tbh, I only use MFA for oil temp at the moment anyways so I've gained both the wipers back working perfectly, and also put the horn fuse back in! I epoxy'd the fillisted bolts in so they won't move as they were getting loose and shorting the ring horn circuit on the steering wheel and also making it very hard to use the push/pull functions of each stalk (i.e. full beam on left, front/rear wiper on right). If I ever need to take the stalks off again, I'm going to replace the bolts with M3 x 40mm nuts and bolts. I did some research this weekend and this is deffo the right thread, but a couple of the electrical connectors butt up against the back of the bolt holes, so you might have to trim the connector back a bit. Start my new job 2 weeks today, designing high end / boys toys parts for luxury vehicles. Can't wait :D -
sounds like you're onto a winner there Sam :D and 4 lambdas?! Did greenpeace sneak into a VAG planning meeting 10 years ago?! :lol

@jason, surely checking your throttle is opening 100% is a 5min job? Wedge a brick on the pedal and then try to pull the butterfly back by hand. If it moves some more then the cable needs adjusting? Not sure why some of the VR torque plots look like the himalayas too.
