  1. maybe the wiring to the fusebox is kinked and running behind brake pedal or something, causing it to short-circuit when you push the pedal down? Either way, if you need a new relay I have one from when I bought my ign switch. brand new VAG which cost £13(!) I'd be happy to send it for £5+postage.
  2. Patrick Michael Rotch, I'd like to have dibs on one of the windows please. I deffo need a rear I just can't remember which side! Also, i've been umming and aahing over the mk2 golf / early C exhaust parts. Have they deffo gone now? Thanks :D
  3. by tarp, do you mean where you live? That cake addiction has seen you fall on some tough times buddy. I recommend hibernation/sabbaticals for the C from time to time. Helps you finish stuff up and appreciate them more when they come out in the spring time :D
  4. Ideally both matey, I'd like a whole unit assembled but I'm perfectly happy with them separate too :D I guess you're in Derby area are you, judiging from the M1 J25 location?
  5. I could prob just use one, and then make a mirror of it in CAD for the opposite side. I'd just need it a few days perhaps. If you're going to put them on soon, i'm sure i could find another one. Thanks for the offer though :-)
  6. Zak, can I put an order in for my Mk2 golf please? Any info needed let me know! :D Jon.
  7. Going over the data that Kip has produced, and some ultra basic trig sketches I just knocked up, here are the geometry changes per lowering amount: 30mm drop - Wishbone up by 30, wishbone in by 1.27mm, 60mm drop - Wishbone up by 60, wishbone in by 2.54mm, 90mm(!) - Wishbone up by 90, wishbone in by 3.81mm. As can be seen, the amount of lowering dictates how much correction is needed. This means that we might need an extender based on a multiple of lowering heights. Same can be said for a modded spindle - perhaps a reasonable drop could be catered for that everyone is happy with. I guess with most people using height adjustable suspension then this could be accounted for. Even using an extender designed for 50mm drop if you're at 60mm is going to be better than nothing! :-D I've found a couple of reconditioned VR6 hubs (without spindles) on the bay for about £50 the pair which I am quite tempted by, purely for this project. Alternatively, if someone else would like to buy them and then donate them to our R&D project then that would be most welcome! :D They're actually for sale by Meth on here. He doesn't know they're VR6 spec so all keep schtum! Also, I'm going to take the upright off the Plum and measure it. This is because it is standard VR6 gas spec, and despite being 2+ years old they've done about 10 miles to and from the aligment place in that time so they're still completely mint without even any mud on them. This isn't particularly necessary, but I work much better with visual components so a model of the upright will help me more than imagining one there attached to the hub model  Cheers Kip, I see what you mean about the splash guards hitting the hub/wishbone. Perhaps a slight redesign (or attack with a grinder?) may be needed, although I think we should aim to create a design which requires no other parts need to be changed (within reason).
  8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK3-VR6-FRONT-CROSS-MEMBER-VENTO-GTI-16V-/320608676966?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4aa5c42c66 it's a bit shítty, but it's near me if you want it picked up? I know you won't have it this week, and it's not in Cheshire... Edit: Ah it's Mk3 VR6, so probs won't fit. /ignore.
  9. If i had the space and money and some way of transporting it home then it would be mine :D
  10. Great news, cheers matey :D I have plenty hubs, but all 4-stud with no ABS so i don't think they'll be any use...!
  11. sorry to all who worried! Just being a bit cheeky to get an answer. Shame on me :-( IIRC it's the drivers side. Luckily, I have been lazy enough to keep the bonnet cable linked to the handle inside the cabin, so perhaps I should just thread it back through and then just use it as per normal! The grille has been off for a while, same with the lights, and the bumper is held on by 1 big bolt either side. Cheers for all the help :D nice to feel some plum love ( hope Toad's not reading this...)
  12. that's cool, thanks matey! I feel a bit bad about my "Boy Cries Wolf" underhand tactics to get an answer!
  13. Of course it's not on fire  but if someone could answer that ^^^ which I posted a week ago, it would sure help me to get on with things :D
  14. such a shame, and a DBP too - or is it one of the blues?
  15. Davo, if you could take those measurements about backing plate location on your hubs or at least get some pics up so we can see what the deal is that would be good.
  16. wow, the fish on my daily thread! Ah yeah that's lurking around somewhere! it was a knackered old moonlight blue C which I stripped for parts and then cut up the shell as no-one in Oxtown would collect it as a whole :-/ I think we still have all the ABS bits in the loft along with choice trim items and also a heater matrix. I'm not sure if i got my money back but hiring the circular saw sure was fun :D
  17. No idea with the B3 nonsense - what year passat are you talking about? You could compare part numbers yourself at http://www.vagcat.com which is like an online version of ETKA which is partly in Russian :D You'll need to register to access the catalog but it's all free and the part numbers all check out as that's what I use.
  18. Cheers Kip, that's some great input and help! :D I'll deffo take all of that into account and hopefully get some more of it sorted this weekend.
  19. Well, after fannying around and worrying like I do 98.2% of the time, I did indeed let the garage do the switch. They did it so quick that they said they would have a look at the exhaust too! Seems one of the clamps I put on wasn't spot on, and it's a LOT quieter now. There's a guy over there with an insane Mk2 Golf Rallye - pearl white running who knows what. Deffo charged, probs 20v I'd hazard as it seems to have to much instant pace for a G60. He does the work on my humble little 8v, so it's good to know there's someone over there who knows old Golfs. He would have done the tuning and cambelt a few weeks back too which explains why it ran so much better now. Going to do gearbox mount this weekend to try and eliminate the judder when I pull away, but for now everything is working great. The ignition switch has firm movement which gives me confidence it's not gonna short out again :-)
  20. Cheers :D Just a few assembly pics/renders not a major update. Does it look right to you guys? Obviously the balljoint is static in this model, and as such I can't rotate it round to mount properly into the bottom of the hub. But I just want to check the angles are right. I developed some mating planes based on features I know to be flat (for example, the surface of the LBJ bolt holes is at 90deg to the hub face which the disc sits on) although I guess this is an assumption. Seems to me that the LBJ base plate is off 90deg side to side (i.e. front to back of vehicle when in position) and also at approx 70 deg between balljoint and base plate with the hex end of the balljoint pointing inboard. Anyways let me know what you think. I'm in the process of mocking up basic representations of wishbones and struts to put this all together and measure how the hub and balljoint position change at 20/40/60/'scene' millimetres of lowering. If any of you other CAD users know how to better manipulate IGES data (perhaps import as surface sketches and re-3d it myself?) I'm more than happy to chat :D After all, all of us have input in this to some extent :salute:
  21. the corsa owner could have just bought some t-cut  ah, some people. @OP, I think clingfilm would be the best wrap for the car. It will insulate the heat, will stop ice forming on bodywork in winter, and you will still be able to see through the windows :D
  22. i've seen a few of those old red topped minis! Must be fun :D I'm sure we can sort something out with this design. We can work to fractions of mm on the computer, and even in manufacture I'm sure +- 0.5mm would be feasible from the companies i've worked with in the past. Atm im just trying to find time to work on it. I'm actually thinking of coming up to the Stealth RR day just to put some faces to names (about 40 miles from me), and talk this through some more (although it's the day after my birthday so someone better buy me a burger!)
  23. taking names = kicking áss. i'll make up some funnies about bumdee cake just for you. xx
  24. why are lubircants a no-no? the worst that can happen is they end up in the chamber and get burnt off.
  25. N*** KAM spotted on Kennet Side, Bone Lane Industrial Estate in Newbury at 1:00pm today. Dark coloured VR6 on speedies coming out towards Bone Lane. I was walking the other way towards the canal to go get some lunch at Tesco's :D You work(?) round the corner from me (opposite Sharps Auto's) so come and say hello!
