Cool, good news mate. I know how it can be waiting for stuff when you've paid, but normally there is an honest explanation behind it!
-
It's a good thought phil, and no i haven't got a hole through the entire bolt i don't think although it's hard to see what with having to peer through the wishbone bush! I've whacked the wishbone a couple of times with a hammer and it's loosened up, but there still seems to be too much bolt holding the wishbone in place. Mighthave to do n.o.s' plan and cut the wishbone up! I'm not planning to keep it anyways :)

earth blocks are normally (oin a corrado) a little ring of 1-pin connectors which bolt directly to the chassis enabling a circuit to use each 1-pin connector as an earth. There's one just below the A-pillar drivers side, not sure if the dash dials earth there, but I would not be surprised if they do!

Awesome! looks like it was a good day, i really love getting out to days like these.

What to do - respray or replace (correct colour) panels??

Sounds awesome Jules, let us know how you get on! I've cut a whole car by hand before, takes so long and your hands stink and your skin cracks and ugh... -
Ah yeah, sorry forgot you didn't have tacho either! my baaayd. have you checked the earth blocks behind the dash? If all the needles played dead at the same instant that would be PLAAAAANNNNN A for me, as they all take readings off different things don't they so not much point checking the dials connector on the back (especially if the coolant gauge is still working?) My second 2p for this thread :D

sounds like it's as dead as an odo... driving w/o a speedo isn't THAT scary mate, you can tell what speed you're doing from the rev counter. 3000 in 3rd is 30, 2000 in 3rd is 20, and for 5th gear/top end the needles go up at the same pace so if the rev counter is on ~4000 (12 o'clock position) then you're doing a smidge over 80mph... although this is trickier to tell than the 3rd gear trick. hth, Jon.

the cross-member went much better than the subframe antics, and I have left the first coat to dry. It's too cold to recoat it this evening so will do it tomorrow.

keeping obsolete service history / paperwork?
boost monkey replied to boost monkey's topic in General Car Chat
Yeah, I hear the Hedge option that VW offered back in the 90s has finally bit you in the áss? Still, if you could be bothered/wanted to strip it you'd get some £££ back for sure. -
keeping obsolete service history / paperwork?
boost monkey replied to boost monkey's topic in General Car Chat
I'm getting some kind of pattern here, might let it run a bit longer... -
Ok, so i've given up on the subframe for now and am concentrating on the cross-member i bought. it's got a few patches of rust on so i'm gonna wire brush drill it back to good metal and then satin black hammerite it (the non-gloss version) this afternoon, so hopefully it will look reasonable!

I have a huge pile of paperwork that came with Ron, which is cool, but thumbing through it there's a lot of stuff that is not applicable any more: receipts for engine work/parts - engine was swapped late last year, so there's no point keeping stuff from before summer 2007. consumables - receipts for brake discs/pads, tyres, cables, TREs, LBJs, etc etc. Do you guys keep it all together or bin it? I don't really see the point of keeping paperwork for parts that aren't even on the car anymore. Opinions?

206 @ 180k: And I kinda like peugeots! I know they definitely aren't made to last like our cars are though. When the diff in my 205 went bang at 140k, the garage just said "oh, peugeot only rates their gearboxes to 100k, after that you're on borrowed time".... I doubt I will ever have a garaged car, unless I'm in a coma or turned into Rip van Winkle

The Hub, This thread still can be a wiki guide, we've all just chimed in with recommendations and our own experiences to make the guide even better. What's the problem in that? personally, i don't use the wiki for these kind of things because I know the front mount is the same as a mk2, so should I suffer from memory loss, I will pull out my trusty haynes :D p.s. I'm sure a lot of the people on here who know a thing or two would write wikis if they had the time, photos and inclination.
-
I think you'd be surprised how well the original airbox is designed with the trumpet drawing air in past the headlight. It's very similar / same as the late Mk2 golf airboxes iirc.
-
I don't know what you worry about Faye, your car is pretty tidy overall, just needs a drop and a bit of paint. Wish mine only needed that! :help:
-
LOL yeah! The other end of the wishbone is free, so if I cut through the stuck end then I could remove 90% of the wishbone and just leave the little bit in the middle. might be able to cut ut in half with a hack or something after that perhaps....hmmm.

Nooooooo  Get a VAG oil filter ALWAYS. The VAG one has the tiny non-return valve in that stops the smallest swarf recirculating with the engine oil, and it's this swarf which is known to kill bearings DEAD

That is the can that sits in the wing, yes. I'll leave the other q's to the others to answer!

Look it up: Vagcat link to Rear Axle for 1994 Corrados Didn't know what year yours was, so just played it safe with 94.
-
Mine's a ratter and I use it everyday until it breaks. Then I humpty dumpty it and drive it some more.
-
some people cut the airbox and remove the cabon canister, allowing a length of 68mm ducting to be run from the cut standard airbox down into the inner wing. increase intake noise A LOT though.
-
Interesting...what did you use? I did take the drill to the rubber part in anger but didn't do much!
