Damn straight this is overdue! I guess being a dad allows you some time between posts  looks like it's all coming together nicely. Good intercooler choice too, that will flow well. Keep the updates coming (and let me know when you're in blighty - i need some welding doing!)

That coating sounds mighty impressive, but is it really worth it on a stock manifold?

Help! Wishbone hitting subframe!!? Speedy help appreciated
boost monkey replied to Riley's topic in Drivetrain
Looking at some of my subframe pics pre-install, I can't get my head round how it's rubbing there unless you have seriously dropped your car a massive amount! I would think that it could well be rubbing on the chassis arm bits \_/ on that side, but to make contact the wishbone would have to be running at a serious angle. Could your frame be bent maybe? :confused4: -
As yan said, the racks are different, do you know whether the rack was changed with the engine? The bearing shouldn't affect how heavy or light your steering is, I don't think.

Help! Wishbone hitting subframe!!? Speedy help appreciated
boost monkey replied to Riley's topic in Drivetrain
It's a good shout, but that's a Mk2 Golf thing. The corrado doesn't use this pipe which crushes when torqued up as it's a locator for the rear wishbone mount, and the C subframes have the U (or horseshoe) type of locator instead :salute: -

Ditto what rob said, looks like a really tidy job. Yan, do you reckon there's room for improvement on the boost piping layout? Obviously it depends largely on which IC you're using, but is there room to take out some of the nasty bends and keep the internal energy of the air (i.e. boost pressure here) up a little bit? I did a report on the flow loss of fluids through seven different types of bends on a flow bench last year, and it's suprising how much energy is lost just by making the air change direction. Ideally, a to-scale CAD mockup of the engine bay with engine/box etc in place to see how much room there is to work with would be ideal, but I just don't have the time at the mo. It stil plays on my mind though. -

Updating BOTH your project threads is making the rest of us look bad!  I'm guessing you've heard of the autotech cams for FI 16v, some people swear by them but it could all be hearsay. Not heard of their use with a G60, perhaps they're better suited to turbos (or is that a retarded thing to say?) -
Air duct for £40?! What a joke!

Good efforts team! Glad we're back on track with the car motivation pics. Always good to see.

Simon, we don't mock you enough already?

Looks like a scratch in the casing to me mate, that big gash in the top right looks more like the culprit! As with any part of the ignition system, if moisture can get in and short parts out then it will affect the operation of that part.
-
Yeah you're probs right. I forgot that 191 was goof and 535 was C so maybe Rob will have more luck!
-
Oh. Ignore all that shíte then  I was talking about coilovers. Your shocks/springs should be about the same either side. Make sure the top nuts are torqued up to the correct spec (something around 80lbft IIRC) and also the 2 bolts at the bottom. Ummmm, then try bouncing on the wings again to get them settled. If they're not a matched pair (one old, one new) the older one will probably sag a little. Same with the springs - think they lose their springiness. God, i'm so technical sometimes.

I think Prodigal had to keep putting his car up on stands to adjust his FKs; being an OEM monkey I wouldn't know first hand but I do know that some cars can read a few mm variation in height either side. What I meant was note which side seems higher/lower and then put the car back up in the air and grab your C-spanner. hth.

Welcome to the forum. Corrado owndership will soon see you as a Master VW Technician or bankrupt - one of the two. Having no money to start with, I'm aiming for the first option. Stupid question: have you recharged the battery? It may still be flat. It needs to be over 12Volts when the engine's off and somewhere around 14V I think when the engine is on and the alternator is recharging it. If you have recharged the battery, it could be the wiring to the starter motor itself. Check both terminals are secure with the earth lead disconnected from the battery.
-
I wouldn't adjust them all equal off the car mate: Put them on the car and then adjust the level. Every chassis is slightly different.

Bilstein make a set that will work with standard dampers, but you'd really want to buy everything new, in which case you might as well buy a full kit really. Shouldn't this be in the suspension discussion thread?
-
I wouldn't go on the part revisions being just one revision different: I did that when I bought my mk2 Golf rad support and it's completely different (well, doesn't have the bottom apron and holes or supports for the PAS oil cooler to poke through), so I guess it's fine if you don't want PAS! Still got that POR-covered paperweight... You may find the holes that the rad pegs 'sit' in are not quite where they should be too. My 2p (from experience!)

So, I dug the rear beam out of storage today as the weather was so nice, and thought i'd make up the final hard lines which run to the caliper hose. I found those funny spring brake line holder things in a box, obviously hadn't been taken care of as one has a missing retainer clip: And the other one looks like it's bent - shouldn't it sit higher off the beam than this? So, I need to order another two of these aswell. Beam attachment postponed again :/ I did think I could start putting the stub axles, stone guards, bearings and discs on but then it would make it more cumbersome to move around the garage and put on the car, so I think I'm gonna built it all back up when it's actually on, attached to the brackets and hanging from the shocks.

Yeah as Supercharged said. The rad fan overrun switch (makes fan come on if engine's still hot after engine is switched off) is completely seperate to the thermoswitch in the bottom of the radiator. 110 degrees is NOT a normal operating temperature for coolant!
-
I'm using a golf beam, no problems here.
-
It's 36mpg at 95p a litre of petrol. Which corrado do you have David?
-
you could do the maths and work it out yourself! :norty:
-
found USB stick, got 2 points shy of an A in a horrid exam that I thought I was gonna fail and my brake line T-piece came. All in all, a good day :salute:

How to work Coil Spring Size=PI Springs!Contacted no help!
boost monkey replied to Jay2's topic in Drivetrain
I've never thought of PI springs to be anything but a budget item. Still, it's annoying when they don't honour a guarantee and AFTER you complain they change their website! Might be a potential trading standards issue there, depending on how miffed about it you are. What's interesting is that you didn't notice the spring had gone until you had taken the wheel off - didn't the car handle funny?
