I've driven a convertible version of this kit. It was truly awful. To the point where I would only drive it round the compound. I couldn't for the shame of it be seen by the viewing publc piloting such a monstrosity. When I first saw it. I couldn't believe how bad the build quality was. Then I got up close and things went further downhill from there.

A rastas dread ! Stripped a seat and found a lovely small letter sent from a daughter to her mother (love you mum, thanks for this and that etc etc) It wasn't dated but it appeared very old. Smiles all day after that. The packet of crayons in the rear wheel well didn't elevate my spirits quite the same.

Thanks Dave, Andy. Not quite ready for detailing yet. But rest assured I'll give you a shout when we're something like. If I'm honest, I'm a little bit dissapointed. I haven't really touched the car since the last update. Too many other commitments. I've had the paint for the arches/engine bay/scuttle sat in the garage for weeks. I managed to fit the rear suspension. Remove all the masking tape/paper. Clean a small amount of grease and prep some small scabs in the engine bay and that's about the long and short of it. Corkills VW have the rear beam and wishbones, which they are very kindly fitting the bushes. I breezed into the garage a few weeks back, with the express intention of kicking on. Ended up having a mother of all tidy up sessions. Might see if I can get an hour or two in this weekend.

This is getting like an episode of "storage wars" !

Very true. Just don't tell Jo.

Not trying to stereotype anyone EJ. Just merely putting down in type my observations. But let's be honest, if you're running a Bristol, you're not going to be spanner averse now are you. Kudos all the same.

I'll be back in the UK on Saturday. Make sure you swing by so I can have a razz.

This thread just got really interesting. Discuss...

How old's too old though ? It took me a good half a dozen weekends to get the 8v where I wanted it as a daily. Crawling around underneath, over and inside the car. Though in respect to the comment, I have asked myself the question "could I really do this in 20 years ?" money permitting I would certainly would love to roll around ( on a daily basis that is ) in something a little more comfortable and current. Though I'm still undecided what that is. Perhaps this is the crossroads for Corrados all around the country. Older boys and girls want to drive them because of the driver reward and in general maintain them to a fair standard, before passing them on to the new fold of younger owners. In turn, younger owners want to own them for similar reasons, but don't have the bias towards maintainance as say someone ten/fifteen years their senior. Which then results in a once good car dropping into the "cars for breaking section". And please, before I get mullered with comments about the generation gap, I base this purely on the amount of cars that are (more so than ever) popping up for sale with the classic quote "I've only owned the car for six months, but in that time I've lowered it, changed the wheels, but done frick all in terms of fixing the broken mechanicals etc etc". I wish with every new advert I click on I am wrong, but on the whole, I'm (much to my own dissapointment) usually right.

The price is right "storm badges edition" official competition thread 2012

Every time I left the Campaign un-attended I would remove mine. I live in a nice area, but it's sad that it's come to this. Don't fancy forking out £50 for the risk. I've even heard of them being stolen at shows. Now that is low. -
VW Medical kit box that goes in the rear seat hump.
James. replied to VWVW's topic in Suppliers Forum
I got one from Lidl about 6 months back. £5 and it fits perfectly. -
Wasn't that bloke off rogue traders last night was it ? £250 is way off though. I'd say half that would be something like, though as I do all the work myself, I'm a little out of the loop on garage labour rates.

Yeah I know, tell me about it. But crikey, I didn't realise they were changing hands for that kind of money.About 6 months back I got caught napping and missed a set for £30 + postage (about £45 all in). Still not got over it. Few weeks later I landed a set for £40 (listed and unsold at £75, sent an email with a cheeky bid) and the chap practcally delivered them FOC from Luton (just so happens he was on holiday near here the same week). Every cloud and all that.

There was an OE one made specifically for Corrados. They pop up on ebay every once in a while if you don't mind waiting. Trouble is the prices can vary wildly between £30 to £90. My suggestion though, is buy the thule parts from ebay one at a time. There's the foot pack, cross bars and clamps(no need for the short roof bars). I priced it up at about £70. And that was "buy it now" prices. I've seen Thule Corrado racks sell for 99p on ebay before. So there are bargains from time to time.

The Peter Russek book above is the one you want.

Welcome aboard and make sure you post some pictures up. If you haven't found it yet, the advance search is a great facility. Whatever frustrations you may have, chances are they've been covered (sometimes many) times before.

The Official Corrado Campaign thread (where are they now)
James. replied to James.'s topic in General Car Chat
Nope. Not mine or Jimbos. Shame the image isn't higher res as it seems to have dealer plates as well. Think I'll email the webmaster to see where the image was sprung from. Feel a bit like a private detective. Magnum or Dick Spanner, not sure which. -
The Official Corrado Campaign thread (where are they now)
James. replied to James.'s topic in General Car Chat
Well, tonight after trawling google searches for all sorts of oddments and possible leads, I dropped on this image. It's clearly a Campaign, and a quick check on the DVLA website lists it as still being on the road. No clearer as to where it is, or which one it is. Just another piece of the jigsaw. http://www.caranddriving.com/images/used/large/vwcorradovr6.jpg -
Good for you (and the car). See you at Tatton park next year then !

Change is good. New ideas, thoughts, personalities. It's always a shame to see those with knowledgable expertise take a step out of the shop window. But the pack has to be shuffled from time to time. Just need to work out who the new jokers and queens are.

Love the wheels but not the colour of them. Agree they should be lighter. Apart from that it looks like you've got steamed right in. Welcome along.

Spray the exposed area with zinc primer, seal in a large bag with something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/kontrol-moisture-control-crystals-damp-2-5kg-/160204959074?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Hearing_Cooling_Air&hash=item254cf5ad62 Open in spring and resume the replacement programme.

NEC Classic Car Show 16-18/11/2012
James. replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Great news Eric. Love this show. We'll show our support by swinging by on Saturday. -
If it's already broke then I wouldn't think twice about attempting to fix it. Blower wise I've seen a couple of different makes of blower. Mines stamped as a Lancia unit (Diavia aftermarket set up). But have also seen Audi units fitted. You'll probably find it'll have some sort of part number on it. Just whip it out and take it from there.
