you just use the original vr mounts. the only problem comes if you want to keep the original r32 oil cooler; it's bigger than the vr one and fouls the engine mount. there are two ways to get round this - modify the engine mount (not nice at all IMO), or buy a mocal cooler. the mocal sandwich plate is nice and thin and fits in place of the original cooler no problem. check out "the definitive 24v conversion thread" here - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33931 you can also check out pics of my conversion in my thread if that helps - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=62901

afaik all mk5 pedals are the same except the automatic/dsg jobbies - mine is running on a random dbw pedal that is defo not an r32 one, so that should work fine. unsure if the tt pedal is the same (i would imagine it is, but can't confirm)

boaster!!! can't wait to see that when it's done! :D matey, don't get too worried about it - i did my conversion on and off in under 6 weeks and that was outside in the freezing cold/rain on axle stands and by myself 99% of the time. as long as you can get the necessary bits all sorted before hand (manifold etc), then it shouldn't be that much of a drama. if you're doing the wiring yourself then that's where it gets interesting! i just chickened out and got VAG-Doc in bristol to sort mine for me, which is the way most people seem to go (nice keeping original ecu/lambdas so you can get fault codes etc) to be honest most of the mechanics are easily do-able in a weekend, it's just the little things like the manifold, oil cooler/engine mount, waiting for parts etc etc that slow things down. my advice for the most stress-free conversion would be to sort another car prior to doing it and make sure you have enough free time so it doesn't drag on, that way you won't have to worry about pressure of getting it done; mine was my daily so i had to get busses, scrimp lifts, borrow cars etc which made everything a right PITA (still am now actually!). also i only really had the 6 weeks to get it all done before i went back to work which made things even worse for me. chin up - AND GET ON WITH IT!!! :D
-
mine will be my daily too! :D (was until i originally took it off the road)

what Kip said buddy about the pedal and MAF - by far your best bet. also with the DBW pedals - they are a right nause to remove from their brackets on the floor and are often broken in doing so. (the clips are made stupidly difficult to get at/undo by VW for some reason). i ordered a pedal off a breaker and lo and behold it was broken when i got it. the best thing to do IMO, is to get hold of a rough pedal (you're welcome to my old rough pedal once Kip has finished with it!) and get it exactly where you want it, then fit your nice new pedal. as for the lambdas, your best bet there is to find a written off r32 that's done low miles; but good luck with that one! you may have to bite the bullet on that, and they won't be cheap from the dealers... also if you're after a set of Mk5 r32 cats, i have a set that have done only 12k lying around that you could have for £150 if you're interested... and don't sell it all - trust me with the frustration of fitting we all seem to have had at some point, we've all thought bugger this and wanted to sell it all. when Karl was thinking of getting rid of his, he test drove a 3.2 A3 and told the sales bloke about his C. the salesman replied "so you've got a Corrado R32, and you want to chop it in for an A3; are you mad?!!" it really will be worth it once you've done it, just expect an obligatory bit of heartache along the way :)

cheers pal, good to meet you too. absolutely loving the work so far on your car; i could never be bothered with all the trouble of a smooth bay - good effort! :D thanks for the kind words on the car, i'm pleased with how it's gone. ideally i would have liked to have a bit more time to do certain things on it, but what with work etc this is just how things have panned out. i'm very happy with the overall product, just can't wait to drive it now with no more problems! as for progress, hopefully i'll have some more news on it after weds... won't be fitting my shiny new bonnet until i've got the car back and mopped/polished it up etc. i have a friend who works in a fantastic paint shop who sorts me with mates rates - he wants to see the car before painting the bonnet just to get the colour match spot on. -

cheers bud. all i did was to go to my local hydraulics place, take them the sender (so they had the thread required to work off) and say what i wanted - just a flexi hose so i can run the oil temp and pressure senders easily. by running the original VR temp sender i can still have the MFA oil temp function as it should do. the reason i went for the elaborate adaptor is because i couldn't fit the new pressure sender in for my gauges without removing the crack pipe. even then it would all have been very close and looked as though it could have still fouled (didn't bother to check for certain, just knew what i wanted and that adaptor seemed the easiest way to allow me to run the temp sender as well) (if you have a decent hydraulics place near you, take them a sender and a print out of my pic off here - you should get it sorted no worries :) ) -

   oh Karl - i feel for you bud! yeah i will get it sprayed asap cheers (not fitting it until it is sprayed). was just going to get the top done and leave it bare carbon underneath (might get them to put and extra coat of laquer underneath, but that's about it) for that nice effect when you open the bonnet :D did you manage to make it to UD in the end today pal? -

well i thought it was time for another update. the car is still not finshed. VAG-doc has bentrying his best, but with workshop moves, vans breaking down etc, there hasn't been the time. i was really really gutted i couldn't take it to UD today, but i had a nice time nonetheless. anyway - i'm going down to help VAG-doc on weds and he has set the whole day aside for me, so fingers crossed unless anything bizzarre happens, the car will be more or less done by weds evening. Mark has very kindly agreed to help me with the couple of mechanical things i have left to do (as i have currently broken my wrist, so would find it pretty difficult on my own!), so once i take it from his, the only thing that should need sorting is the gearbox issues with 1st. i'm really hoping the gearbox place doesn't get funny with me about their work; at the end of the day it was fine when i took it in there, so they should hopefully just cover it under "warranty" or whatever. waiting to go on the car now is a nice oil adaptor i made up for the oil temp/pressure senders, the new denso rad with 12" & 8" davies craig fans and CrazyDave's lovely lovely laser brackets, and my new R32 DBW pedal once i've decided where the pedal is going to sit. also i was lucky enough to pick up a steal on something very very nice at UD today... going to get it sprayed up before long, then should hopefully be at least another 10kg lighter at the front... :norty: piccies: -
the oil filter housing is only oil-oil (AFAIK); it's the oil cooler that has water going through it (even then though, there is no route for the water to get into the block and mix with the oil - it's kept separate). would have thought you will be ok - just a pain for you having to rip it back off again if you want to put the proper gasket on there...
-
great to hear the progress Rob - hope it all gets worked out for you soon. :D personall yi would keep the rear wiper as i'd really miss it if it went, but that's just me. can't wait to see the finished result! :D
-
got them on mine - they are not horrendous money to buy (£15 a side at most IIRC) and you just need to look at the standard bushes compared to these to know they'll make a nice difference. i have not done loads of miles on mine (funny thing it being a corrado and all that!), but from what i have done, they feel great and not really any harsher/crashier or anything than the old bushes. win/win if you ask me :D

hey Drew, bay is looking spanking - bet you were so pleased to get it out after all that time! unsure about the oil pressure buzzer bud - bit of an odd one. maybe check the charger lines for signs of leaks etc... did you manage to get hold of some more bolts for the sump yet - would get that sorted asap if you haven't... looking forward to catching up with you at UD  -
hey there pal. if you're interested, i will have my gauges up for sale before long. (check them out here - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=62901&start=0) not oil temp as well, but nice all the same was looking for £75 collected, that will include the gauges, surround, oil pressure sender - everything bar the wiring basically. PM me if you likey....... Pete :)

Sean Jaymo - Grey Scale!! Pg8 - Go on have a look!
pete_griff replied to Sean_Jaymo's topic in Members Gallery
i would guess either it has been fitted poorly (shimmed or something for whatever reason...), or it has had a knock. it's impossible to fit the stub axles on the wrong way round othewise you wouldn't be able to fit the brakes etc. doubt the rear beam is bent; they are pretty sturdy items (rado's also had strengthening butresses on the ends unlike golfs etc), so it would have to have taken a bloody good whack to bend the beam - normally just the stub axles that go. and yeah, i would get it sorted asap - sort out your handling, tyre wear, all sorts. not teaching you to suck eggs, but there are only 4 small patches of the car in contact with the road anyway - you want to make sure they are all setup properly or the car will be a fair bit less safe than it should really be. -

cool - fair one about the centre caps bud; they still look very good all the same! :D i wondered looking at the pic you posted up if your rear wheel was on the pi$$ - didn't want to post anything to draw doubt/put your car down; was shortly going to PM you actually! hope you get it all sorted soon buddy :) -

love the look of your C on those wheels Sean - just the right combo of mean/classy (if there is such a thing!) IMO, some VW centre caps for the wheels would look much nicer than the BBS items... (check out my car towards the end of my thread) looking 8) though! :D -

i'm really looking forward to seeing it. been speaking to Dave about it - i won't bother giving anything away now in case you want to keep things quiet, but i'm really keen to see how you've done everything. hope you get everything sorted :) -
VR6 - Failed water pump (now fixed with old pump pics)
pete_griff replied to Neil VR6's topic in Engine Bay
sounds to me like it could be the water pump (right area for the leak etc) and it would explain the noise. some water pumps have plastic impellors which can let go with age... also, you had a leak - any cooling system with a leak will run hotter as it doesn't have the necessary seal to keep the pressure in as it builds up with the heat. (water has a higher boiling point when it is under pressure - less pressure, lower boiling point) hope you get it sorted with the minimum of fuss and cost! :)
