  1. Had to get business insurance (as the army now demands it if you want to claim mileage) and HIC dont do it (was with them before - renewal £360 fully comp with 5y NCB and 1 speeding fine!) went through adrian flux and they got it (business) for £580 compared to most others £1000+! (they brokered a deal for aviva) Not sure what their SDandC will be but if they are able to offer that then they might be a good option. Tim
  2. if you dont want to buy one, a large G-Clamp and a pipe pair of pipe gripping pliers with some rubber to line them. Tighten the G clamp and twist the caliper back in! - worked a treat on my mates s4 brakes! T
  3. I'm running a 16 row Mocal, mounted infront of the rad, with most of it behind the bumper level. Connected with braided hoses and a normal non thermostatic sandwich plate with the old heat exchanger removed. Gets up to temp nice and quickly as the airflow is slightly reduced by it being behind the bumper, but at higher speeds keeps the temp around 98-100. Only ever gets up to 106 around town on a hot day. Hand to cut a hole in the rad mount to get the pipes through tho. T
  4. Do you (army/navy/raf medical officers) spend a lot of the time placed in the NHS? I know at Selly Oak, a significant proportion of doctors and other medical staff there are from the armed forces, understandable with it being the RCDM Yep - there arent enough places in the MOD hospitals for all of the doctors, so they farm us out to the NHS, i'm a bit out of the ordinary as should have gone to sandhurst 12 months ago but injured my knee, now two operations down the line and am set up to go in oct. So have ended up with an extra year in the NHS. Then a little more training and off on deployment   , the wifes not so happy tho
  5. I'm an Emergency Dept (A&E) Doc in the Army, currently placed in the NHS and working in Bath. Spend my time doing inordinate amounts of anti-social hours and looking after all kinds of punters from grannies who have had funny turns to your proper traumas etc. Love the interesting bits, get bored of the drivel that comes through the doors though, esp the pissed up w**kers who rock up drunk! Hopefully off somewhere interesting on deployment soon.
  6. when can you come up?? I have a lot of time off at the mo!
  7. its not a quick job, and prob you will need a new cable, i should take some photos of the broken parts and put them up on the forum and get some opinions. The mechanic was correct and the whole rooflining and sunroof cassette will most likely have to come out, and its not a job to be rushed as if put back slightly skew will piss you off with wind whistling through at speeds. Theres lots of info on the forum, search under my name and you should find some stuff. Tim
  8. I think i found the cause of the fault with the MAF wiring, one of the clips in the back of the fusebox was loose, once clipped back in not only did the car seem to run more smoothly but i also had a temp sensor reading appear on the MFA which has been absent for a bit! So (fingers crossed) i have a car that works again! I had nearly started stripping the whole loom looking for breaks in the wiring! T
  9. the weirdest piece is prob the seat belt plug??? Do they have a rado with bits that are broken on it?? Sounds mighty weird. Equally - get it to the cops for dusting if there were metal/smooth plastic bits touched lots - you never know whos prints they have on file and its no loss to you
  10. You might have just become my new best friend nick VR6! Found a loose plug on the lower row of the wires going into the back of the fuse box, had also had intermittantly had missing signal from the outside temperature sensor - so i think you might have just stopped me from spending a lot of money!! If we ever meet i owe you a pint or a few! Fingers crossed it is now sorted (driven about 4 miles since with no issues) Tim :D :D :D :D
  11. Now realise that this is part of a large loom that reaches to the ECU and the fuse box, so not really up for replacing that as it is likely to be rather expensive! Is there a quick way to find out where the short is other than visual inspection? Have already cleaned up the earth straps on the body, the engine and the gear box to make sure these arent contributing to the problem. Anyone else had to troubleshoot this one? T
  12. Issues for a while, intermittent throughout but now more present than not. VagCom'd the car and it only brings up one error which is MAF short to earth. This threw me slightly as I had replaced the MAF only around 6 months ago, which makes me think my old MAF may be fine and this may be a loom problem. The loom that runs from the ECU to the MAF looks mighty long and complicated to go looking for a cracked/failed wire, is this the only way or is there anything I should do first?? Was thinking i should check that it's earth is sound first, but then looked at the wiring diagram, and it looks like it would be attached to a much larger earth that earths a number of sensors?? Any help appreciated. Remake the loom? Replace to loom? Tim
  13. I was in Exeter, but now in Bath :( , but will be back for visits so keep me informed if anything happens! :D Tim

  15. where in somerset - anywhere near bath?? If so PM me and we'll sort out your roof! T
  16. I used a good chap when i was in exeter (not much good for you) but he removed some dings in the doors for me, the reason they dont want anything taken off the doors is that they put the window down, use a rubber pad against the glass and then put some bent rods down the gap and lever off the pad and the window against the inside of the dents. My chap quoted me £60 and said it would take about an hour, unfortunately for him it took a lot longer but he did an awesome job and stuck to his original price. T
  17. how about covering them in stone chip??? flexible, creates a nice thick coat and can paint over with a colour of your choice afterwards?? Happy to be told this is a bad idea! :D Just a suggestion! T
  18. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=92103 reliable chap! T

where is the earth the other end?? did it again the other day! T

    No power....

This has happened twice now, once about 8 months ago then again yesterday, driving along, engines fine, then suddenly, no power when i put my foot down, drift to a standstill in the middle of town and the engine falters and stalls. Wait 5 mins and then restart and manage to coax the car round the corner then it happens again. Disconnected the battery and left it alone for 15 mins, reconnected and then it worked fine! Whats going on?? Have replaced cam posn sensor 6 months ago and had no faults on vagcom 4 months ago. Help appreciated. T
  21. I think there's a mechanical blockage, and gonna get it all off and have a play next week Will let you know the outcome. T
  22. Hasn't been working for a while, motor works and whines a little, took the inside of the tailgate off today and detached the piece of hose, that pushes out water under quite a decent pressure, got a bike pump and tried to force whatever is blocking the washer through, but the air just whistled through, then got only bubbles coming through after that. The pump is evidently fine, then blockage seems to be in the part that goes through the motor. Have cleaned the nozzle out with a pin. Any suggestions other than attaching an air line to it?? Not going to remove and replace with a grommet under any circs. T
