Coolant gasket advice needed to defeat the Stealer......
Diesel Junior replied to Diesel Junior's topic in Engine Bay
Cazza, one out one to go after a nights WD 40, its the harder of the two to get to, set down and near to the slam panel, the darned thing will turn 45 degrees then click and stop as if its spinning on its thread. Have a pal coming on Monday who is a mechanic so fingers crossed. I dont have any Irwins just a boggo socket set...... -
Coolant gasket advice needed to defeat the Stealer......
Diesel Junior replied to Diesel Junior's topic in Engine Bay
Cheers for that. Good point about the screw being set away from the hole, i did mention this but got the 'I'm the mechanic not you' look, but the workings of the dealers here in Spain beggar belief, they are still upset that i didnt take up their offer of €6k to repair the HG before Xmas when the crack pipe went. Funnily enough when i showed them this they again blamed it on the HG........ -
Hi folks, greetings from sunny Spain.......OK have noticed that have been suffering from a small coolant leak and after a bit of rummaging around discovered that it was coming from the union where the top hose goes into the top of the rad. The hose goes into a 90 deg plastic tube which then links up with the rad and that is where the leak is coming from. The trusty dealer was visited and €13 of parts were ordered comprising a new pipe, the rubber gasket/ring and two new screws and the dealer offered to fit it for free as the last bill (crack pipe and oil cooler) was such a biggie. Problem is that the screw nearest the slam panel wouldnt come out and the mechanic (who is excellent) didnt want to snap it and this would fall in the rad. Step forward 'Super' Mario from behind his golden desk and says that the only solution is to replace the radiator as well............€€€€€......i am not sure which side the leak is coming from altho i suspect that it is the side nearer to the radiator....anyway, i need a BODGE from y'all. Hope the pictures show the problem and a new radiator for me is a tad OTT. What would you advise? A bead of gasket sealant around the outside of the gasket?? Any help appreciated

DO NOT SELL THIS CAR! Think about it, what are you going to replace it with? A 350Z? Then we are talking 10k for a decent one....a Scirocco? No thanks. Just trust the Diesel Junior you will regret it as that is a good example mate!
-
This is a great thread, one of the best - and in a damn nice area of the world too! Keep the pics coming, would love to see one of the 'tape player' to see how it looks. Which one did you get? Keep us all posted!

That block aint clever jeeezzz.....for a decent breaker i used to go to VeeDubs at Bill Quay North Tyneside, he might be able to help, good luck mate.....

ABS Light stuck on... What are the possible causes?
Diesel Junior replied to DEL VR6's topic in Drivetrain
Would have said clean the sensors but VAGCOM it is my friend...... -
I'm with Supercharged on this one.......with all respect to other suppliers, VW or any other car manufacturer has spent millions in the R & D of the car and they usually get it right (Rover K series engines being the exception........), put the old stuff back in mate IMO........My VR6 always runs hot after only 10 mins but pulls like a train.....
-
I know they have their detractors but for me EBC green stuff are the way to go. Sure they squeak and squeal for the first 200 miles but for stopping power on my VR6 they are excellent.
-
Mine is OE and has been totally reliable. Sorry about the oil cooler seals, a you know what of a job..........

Wouldn't be surprised but reading the comments on the SOTW message board its 99% in favour except some garbage about the interiors not being well built .......
-
Yeah i was kind of shocked when i saw this but SOTW has had some damn good cars over the years and i see it as a compliment! Its a good article especially with reference to the 'cult classic' and VW's shameless ignorance of the car at the launch of the Scirocco in 2008. Actually £995 is quite tempting, i hope no one buys it to break there may be a good car there but i suspect a money pit  PS Just gone thru to the dealers page and they have 2 other Corrados on offer a VR6 and a 2 litre http://www.supercoupes.co.uk/listings.php?next=1 :D
-
Kev i saw them do it (on the Passat), this is no wind up!!!!
-
This is bit of a saga this one!! As per the coil pack this is NOT a wind up but i know of two people over here (one with a Corrado, other with a Passat) whom when faced with the same problem as others on this board, instead of hitting the epoxy resin they sprayed hair spray (yes really) over the coil pack and guess what???? End of problems!! The one with the Corrado was done over 3 years ago.............. :cuckoo:
-
OK no problem that makes sense. Shame there are no Ferrari photos as Mass's crack pipe went just as i got there. Will investigate the Corrado if i can negotiate the scrapyard doberman, its is a strange one as it is LHD and with a US style plate, ok stand by......

Hola Algarve! Good advice that BTW, how is the rebuildathon going? Took the car upto Valencia for the F1 testing today it was a good day out, enjoy the photos via the thread i have put up (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=101096). The DJ

Hi folks, took the 'Rado upto Valencia this morning to see the F1 testing which at €5 entry is no bad deal! Typically Massa's Ferrari chucked its oil out after a lap, anyway for any F1 fans on this fab forum, i have put my pictures on my website http://www.flickr.com/photos/udaltea i hope you enjoy them and if you want to download them you have my permission of course! IMG_6059 by superleeds1992, on Flickr Meanwhile on the way home i took the country road, which unearthed a find thru a breaker's yard fence.....
-
Let us know how this goes. Luckily the previous owner ordered the lot with mine and the CC you will use all the time, its terrific. Useful here in Spain where there is a massive crack down on speeding on the autovias!! Going to the F1 testing in Valencia tomo you can be sure there will be at least 4 traps in the 120km up there!

Wise move mate welcome to the Corrado world, put some pics up soon of the car wont you?
-
Do not touch this car with a barge pole! Sorry but if you read what you have read as a 'neutral' that would be your advice too. Coolant light flashing is just the sender? Nonsense. If that was the case the seller would have spent 5 mins cleaning it. Look at some of the stories as per water leaks on this website and you wont walk away from this heap of junk you will run. To give you an idea i replaced the hoses with a Samco silicon kit (€400) last year. Two months ago the infamous crack pipe went and that had to be changed with the oil cooler, another €800. Granted mine is a VR6 and they cost a bit more to run than a 16v but these are expensive toys to keep! Remember the old adage.....BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE. This car is trouble, there are much better out there in places like Pistonheads.......
-
Nice result there mate, where did this gem appear from? Good on ya, keep it standard just like mine - removal of rear wiper excepted :D
-
€5000???? Bloody hell! The pop over once a year for 6 months is a good option, thats what the Brits do here, come over in UK plated cars for 6 months and then head back. I will see if i can find anyone to do it nearer than the Costa Blanca for you, there must be someone in the Costa del Sol who will do it (still far but a bit nearer.....), i will let you know......
-
That Aygo probably makes a good noise though but its just what you need in Madrid, i left my VR6 parked overnight on the street there once and barely slept all night........Meanwhile Pistonheads is turning up G60s......... :?
-
Good call! In fact i saw a LHD g60 for sale in the UK for a laughable £2750 (which they will never get...), i should have snapped it up. What is the mpg for one of those BTW? Changing the plate was a piece of you-know-what....the Costa Blanca News has loads of adverts for people that do it. It cost me €700 all in which included the commission of the person that did it, ITV (MOT), the plates themselves etc etc. The turn around time was about 10 days all in which is surprising given the red tape here (and probably the same in Portugal  ) and the engine size which is a crucial cost.....My neighbour (not the one with the Puma) brought over a 4.6 litre X5 and it cost him just under €3250, another mate had a 1.4 litre Civic and the plates changed but went thru the dealership to do it and that cost €1250......It pays to shop around methinks. Time to find a G60 this summer, just think maybe it has a heater matrix to fix at some point
-
Don't worry Kip thats more Spanish than the average Brit in Benidorm. Mileage is creeping up so looks like neighbours offer of a Ford Puma for less than a grand is getting tempting, fuel costs might be a smidgen less as well  Not sure what other members of the board would say as per this, but is there an acceptable 2nd car to a Corrado? Any advice let me know!
