  1. Doh!!! Sorry am using Nitro mors in the house at the moment, white spirits it was. Messy job tho.........thanks for the correction!
  2. I would try the 3M option definitely. I had to change the bonnet on my VR6 after it was subtly 'altered' by an Alicante bus driver and the bonnet from the scrapyard had terrible foam underneath. Only way to get it off was scraper and Nitro mors and was a horrible job, here is a link for the foam, not sure what the stealer would want but £10 it is more!! http://www.corrado-teile.de/shop/produc ... o-VR6.html
  3. Sounds a great idea! Is there a club in Portugal, the Spanish one is a good one....
  4. Hi folks, well life over here can move rather slowly so after 3 years of using this forum i duly noticed the newbie section.....My VR6 was bought in Kiel in January 1994 and brought over to the UK. It stayed there until January 2008 by which time it had racked up 80k km. I'd always wanted a Corrado and after an S 2000 sent me for spinal surgery the hunt intensified but unfortunately the words 'car' and 'care' are rarely encountered over here but Pistonheads came up trumps via John Woods' Volks World and after a day trip to Stourbridge from Alicante the car was mine! Now into its 18th year its a pleasure to drive over here. The marriage was sealed when the fabled heater matrix went and a pitched battle in my garage lasted for two days meaning i cannot see it being sold. Now on 122k km and with a new crack pipe and oil cooler, next stop will be the F1 testing in Valencia next week. Congrats on the website BTW its excellent! stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfdiesel4.JPG[/attachment:2w8h85wm] Corrado92.pdfCNL 1.jpg[/attachment:2w8h85wm] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfCNL2.jpg[/attachment:2w8h85wm] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfCNL4.jpg[/attachment:2w8h85wm] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfCNL8.jpg[/attachment:2w8h85wm] CNL9.jpg[/attachment:2w8h85wm]
  5. That is a very low price IMO.....if it is just a 'token' oil leak then my ? would be to wonder why the seller has not fixed it in the first place? Sorry to be a 'downer' on this but if i were you i would look elsewhere........ :(
  6. Here's a start http://wiki.the-corrado.net/heater_matr ... ement.html But this is the one most use viewtopic.php?f=45&t=83262&hilit=heater+matrix Good point about the canadian corrado club web its really good
  7. May the force be with you Luke...there must be a wiki for this job somewhere, hope we haven't put you off the job by some of the posts!! Ben is right watch out for the heater control unit...........Good luck and let us know how it goes :?
  8.   I avoided that fate but what a job, it rhymes with ditch i think. Meanwhile to lighten the mood look what the Germans do to their inlet manifolds http://cgi.ebay.at/Ansaugbrucke-Abdecku ... 1c0d3ebf34 :pukeleft:
  9. I defy a priest not to swear when doing that little job, or a trappist monk not to talk.....
  10. Sounds like the dreaded heater matrix to me, if not the infamous crack pie (as i know.....), sorry to be gloomy but would put money on one of those.
  11. Just had that one done (see my thread about blown head gasket......), i would get the others changed while you are at it and brace yourself for the labour cost but it will be worth it......
  12. Happy New Year to all! Well have been driving the Corrado for a good two weeks and a couple of long runs up to Valencia seem to have done it the world of good. The dreaded mayo is minimal and the car is running great so hopefully i am out of the woods as per the HG, fingers crossed. However....my neighbour is still offering the Puma to me and i am tempted and would appreciate any thoughts on this, also...the plastic cover on top of the engine which says 'VW' 'DOHC VR6' has cracked and lets the side down TBH and would like to buy one yet i cannot find it on vagcat.com (and i have looked...) does anyone have any idea how much this would cost? I think in English you call it the cam cover? Many thanks..... :notworthy:
  13. Jim, mine had this problem as well it was terrible and at times bloody embarrassing but when we put on the Green Stuff brake pads it stopped. Now this isnt an ad for them but they came with what i think are called 'shims' which are metallic clips which go on the outside of the pad and then the pad is inserted into the caliper. The noise stopped immediately, and trust me we had tried everything, smoothing the pads etc etc. I know someone else who did this and to prove the point he took off these 'shims' and back came the grinding noise.......just a thought!
  14. Am pretty sure it does but would get a Mod view if i were you before splashing the £
  15. Here you go Marshall good luck on your project i will be following it... 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfIMG_5423.JPG[/attachment:2s9ucwt3] IMG_5424.JPG[/attachment:2s9ucwt3]
  16. Not sure about that one....i will put a photo of mine on here later. It will be 50/50,some will like some not, but for me it really cleans the whole back end up. I am sure i read somewhere that someone had put a metal bung in there which had been sprayed the right colour but not sure where. The rubber bung fits perfect tho!
  17. This is a great mod, i will put a picture on at some point. As per the grommet, not sure how a 13mm can fit, the ones i got from Halfords just fell thru.....the one from the tailgate is a perfect fit but acco to the ETKA it is 20mm, here is its reference number 411963259....Removing the motor is a pig of a job, i found that the best way was to disconnect the motor from the silver H shaped bracket with the 10mm bolts then undo the two lower 10mm bolts from the bracket and then it can (just) be levered out. Took me a good hour  but well worth it!
  18. Hi Aaron, best of luck with this, let us all know how you get on with this as you can see from my post (directly under yours on the list - VR6 HG problems allegedly!) i am in a similar kind of position. Best of luck!
  19. Yeah, and i had a late model so heaven knows what the early ones were like!! A great car in many ways just not especially practical, beside I'm over 40  now and attitudes change!! The Corrado is just more complete as John Wood (a top guy BTW) of Volkscars told me in his sales pitch and he wasn't wrong. The relationship with it has been a bit  strained during this last week but hopefully a couple of weeks away will do the trick!
  20. What i would say about the Puma is that it has the most comfortable seats i have come across, important when you have had back surgery like me! Shoot me down but i may well snap it up, :cuckoo: (and may get kicked off this forum as a result...) solely to keep the mileage down on the Corrado and you can leave it in the supermarket car park without fear......the S2000 was an amazing car but frenetic is hardly the word. A 5 min drive to the shops was akin to 3 rounds with Mike Tyson at his peak, but once again, the quality of materials was not at the level of VW/Karmann. Some will disagree but to me it gets an A, while the Corrado gets an A+. They really are chalk and cheese, the Corrado is brilliant on the motorway it just wafts along while, for me, the s2000 is a second car/weekend plaything. When that VTEC kicks in its just amazing but watch out at roundabouts, it makes an E30 3 series look like a paragon of stability.........
  21. Nah not too much, less than a level teaspoon of the stuff. Head for home tomorrow (well thats the theory......) so will let the car rest after is trauma till 5th of January. I really hope its nothing serious as i just do not like chucking money at a 17 year old car and am getting sick of 'garage experts' telling me to get rid, they just dont understand the quality of the car. I had an S2000 before this and this is by far the better car. When in the stealer this morning had a good look at a Scirocco, lovely car but where the VR6 has leather, it has plastic and its 20k plus to upgrade. Thanks 4 your help and support BTW i will do all possible to keep this thing on the road, an i dont mean the Puma 1.7!!!! 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfP1100568.JPG[/attachment:371ihq5z]P1100569.JPG[/attachment:371ihq5z]
  22. Thanks Kev thats a great post especially as there is a dark cloud hanging over me not helped by my neighbour saying 'you can have my Puma for £900, its the 1.7 you know and would beat your Scirocco.......'. The coolant is all new and my heart sank when i saw the dreaded mayo. The quote you used were the mechanics own words, my Spanish isn't perfect but that's what he said and just made no sense whatsoever......
  23. Woe is me.....had the car back for 4 days now and the dreaded mayo is on the underside of the coolant expansion cap. Now i presume the mechanic had cleaned this during the €744 of work so this could be ominous. Before you say 'why didn't you clean it?', well i would have done if i had been able to open the bonnet....as they didn't reconnect the bonnet cable properly and so it was another trip to the stealer this morning. Oddly the mechanic wasn't over-concerned with the mayo find saying that 'drops of oil often do find their way in, especially thru the heating system'. I am worried especially as the G12 seems to have an oil-like sheen to it. In the good news department the MFA now works a treat after the fabled 'disconnect the battery for 2 hours' trick won the day. Any advice much appreciated, Happy Chridtmas/Bon Nadal to one and all :mad2:
  24. Is that a correct price though at €5,500? Cars are usually more expensive here i would have thought it would go for more, especially when you see what the Germans are paying on autoscout24.com. Anyway, i have returned with the Corrado but the stealer hit me for a thumping €744.46c. I love this car but at 17-y-o it better behave during the next month or it might find itself on autoscout too!!!! Lets pray that it was the heat exchanger as i dont want to change the head gasket after this!! Interestingly the stealer hit me for €64 for the heat exchange yet €79 (!!!!) for the correa (belt for water pump, alternator etc). Time for a gin and tonic methinks......
  25. Beer no problem, nos vemos en la proxima concentracion si? The guy in La Nucia i dont know his name but he is said to be very good, maybe not needed now, we shall see. Should get the car back tomo....BTW have you seen my post on Spanish forum about the low mileage VR6 for sale in Madrid?
