Oh and when you put it back together, use copper grease.

Usually with heat it's best to get it moving first but give it a wee bit of time to cool. Spraying it copiously with WD-40 after you've freed it off also helps.

A couple of quid spent on some PTFE tape would sort that out...

Somebody educated at Eaton would probably make a better leader... The flip flopping is inevitable given our bonkers electoral system. We had a chance to improve/fix it 3 years ago, but it seems like most people like things the way they are. Sad.

I replaced my slave cylinder in situ so it shouldn't be that hard to remove for inspection. As I recall it just needed an imaginative combination of sockets and extensions etc.

Slave cylinder leaking? I "felt" like something similar was happening to mine before I did the timing chains and replaced the clutch at the same time...

The Seat Toledo panel did not fit well, but the mechanism went straight in.

FWIW my sun roof mechanism is from a Seat Toledo and it has been fine. It's difficult to prove there is any difference though so knowing my luck it will give up tomorrow...

Yep, that job. It's pretty satisfying to get it done. I might be imagining it but it feels like I've recovered a bit of power, is that possible? I guess the chains could potentially stretch enough to put the timing out. I also changed the clutch since the old one had a good soaking in brake fluid when my slave cylinder failed. Perhaps it was slipping under power? Anyway, pretty pleased to have a nice quiet engine.

I couldn't tell you to be honest. I did all the welding, filling and prep, but left the painting to somebody who knows what they're doing. I assume it's some kind of Schutz spray, but I don't know exactly what...

So I finally got around to fitting my 312mm brakes. I'm pretty pleased; the pedal is still nice and solid and the extra stopping power only really comes in when you stand on them. I was a little concerned they'd be annoyingly strong. I also fabbed up some splash guards out of stainless sheet. I tried to make them resemble the OEM splash guards to some extent:

Huh, weird. I wonder why they did that? Still, the replacement foam isn't 100% right; it needs a bit cut out above where the bonnet stand goes. The piece on the other side has it, but not above it.

So I'm just in from finally getting around to applying this to my bonnet, but uh... I'll let the picture do the talking: It's the wrong shape? Is anybody else's like this?

If it's a pattern piece, it looks OK and doesn't fall to bits after a few months in British weather, that's an upgrade as far as I'm concerned.

I'm declaring an interest if this manages to get off the ground :). Now, if only the window scrapers and outer door seals could be re-manufactured.

I mean the high original sale price as in what it sold for when it was a new car. It was so expensive that the theory is that it put people off buying it.

I think you probably have to factor in the original high sale price affecting its popularity though.

Beru one ordered, received and fitted. The engine is running much more smoothly now :).

On the same(ish) subject; is there a good place to get a timing chain replacement kit right now? Getting all the bits through the dealer sounds like wallet rape waiting to happen.
