I have done a bit of searching on these and see many people raving about the best mod you can do to the vr? Gotta say i had a clio 1.8 16v years ago that had cams and map that went really well, would stick with my old vr no problem. And with the stealth rebuilt engine i have running well i would hope to see a good improvement and reigniting my joy of cars/driving which is failing driving a modernish boring diesel on the daily grind. Gotta say im real happy to be back in a corrado vr6, this is my third:-D So can anybody tell me the best way of getting hold of a set of these cams? Also if anybody has a set ill take em!

I'm on it... cheers
-
Ahh well done edd, top man i'll get some ordered;-) and cheers also dox i'll check that out too

Here's my dyno printout, would the fact that I have a bhp and tourqe figures quite evenly matched that I don't get the kick at 4000rpm? looking at the power graph it looks like I have a very linear smooth power delivery and it is quite torquey low down?
-
Hmm interesting, it almost feels like my engine is still really tight, but it does go really well, will be interested to see your rolling road printout pbradley, ill post mine up for comparison. And I think ill just stick to the synta silver stuff too:-)
-
I think ill stick then, cheers

Cheers for the replies guys, could I expect the engine to burn a bit of oil at 75,000? The last vr I had (4 yrs ago)had 140,000 on the clock went like stink but used a litre every 800 miles! And am I best changing the oil at 5k intervals as I'm getting a bit paranoid about prolonging the life of the engine, they do run hot dont they! Also on another note I used to remember my old vr used to have quite a pronounced kick at 4000 rpm where it would take off, but the one I have now with the stealth build seems to pick up a bit higher up the rev range at 5000, it still goes really well but just a different power delivery? I have a rolling road print out of 198bhp and 192lbft from 2005 when the engine had 2500 miles on the clock so I might get it on a rolling road again, but then I have been driving a diesel with 245bhp/370lbft for the last three years?? I've forgotten how you drive a petrol car now!

I've owned my third corrado vr6 for only three days now and remember putting 10 40 oil in my previous engines, but now I have an engine that was rebuilt by stealth racing back in 2005, it's done 75,000 miles and uses the mahle 82.5 overbore pistons. So what oil should I be using in this engine? Should i be using a fully synthetic oil or should I just put the synta vw stuff in there?

I'm after a polished manifold for my abv 2.9 corrado and instead of doing the labour myself i've seen one thats for sale but comes from a golf 2.8 aaa, it has the smaller diameter inside plenhum. If i fit this to my 2.9 engine could the smaller plenhum lose me any flow/horsepower at all, or will i be ok?
-
is this still for sale? could collect?
-
I have a 2.9 engine for sale out of a corrado, chains and tensioners done and engine can be heard running
-
Top help;-), just what I was after, but the project corrado I've purchased has 192,000 on the clock, but had the chains/tensioners and head repaired at 186,000 due to a coolant leak, fingers crossed she'll run nice when warm! It fired straight up after being sitting for a year though!:-) The stealth build on the hand has only done 75,000 on the full mahle piston rebuild. And hofmeister, blackberry is a nice colour, my mates dad had a violet pearl effect with grey heated leather years ago which made me get my first vr6... Till this date the fastest I've been in a car on a private track, 158mph:-D
-
Thanks, it's in need of a bit of bodywork but its had everything done to it that I dreamed of doing to mine, uprated headlight loom, lull wipers and suspension and the stealth rebuild just sells it for me:-) I saw a vr the other day and they definatly have a timeless shape, have really missed not owning one! Pick it up on the 27th, can't wait!

Hi all, I've been a member on here since 2008. I first owned a corrado vr6 when I was around 23, 36 now! And had my second one about 3 years ago and sold it to a member in here. I've had scoobys, s4's, golfs and lots more and currently have owned for three years a remapped 330d e46 sport running 245bhp and 370lbft as my workhorse, she's doing 44.8 average mpg. Anyhow I have just purchased edds corrado from here on the forum, it's had the engine fully rebuilt by stealth racing including a rebore to accept the mahle pistons( rolling roaded at 198bhp with a tight engine) and sits on koni adjustables with h and r springs, it's what I always wanted to do to mine! And I've also bought another vr which is in need of a bit of cosmetic work as the bonnet cable has snapped, but ill be starting work in this ASAP. Of all the cars of owned the vr was a great drivers car as far as i can remember with lots of steering feel and I can't wait to get driving one again! Ps I need to find and source the three coolant sensors that slide into the front water housing if anybody can help me? I think one is blue and the other yellow and maybe a brown one, oh and the one I'm talking about which I'm doing up is a k reg not the stealth build, oh and merry Christmas!

I had my corrado vr6 for 6 years :D and then went to a 99my 280bhp prodrive everything impreza uk turbo, while the steering feel on the corrado was very good a well setup impreza with an anti lift kit and drop links feels on another level. I had prodrive bilsteins shocks with eibach springs on mine which were very firm but handled the road better than any of the two 'konied' corrado's i owned. I now have an audi S4 avant which is as quick as the impreza but has leather, cruise, bose sound etc and i havnt even remapped it yet which for £500 will get me 320bhp and almost 400lbft. These cars have the same 2.7 bi turbo lump as found in the rs4 difference being rs4 has cosworth heads and different turbos. A proper Q car i reckon and look alot better in the flesh than in photos, and whoever said audis arn't tell happy is wrong, the s4 uses the proper torsen quattro system which is way better than the haldex as found on other models, mine happily steps its rear wheels when asked and after all this snow we've had has proved to be controlled but nicely rear end biased. As for anyone thinking of getting one there great, get baby, dog shopping all in and have some fun, mines going to the nurburgring in july hopefully :D

A Break From Corrado Ownership.....Impreza Ownership
maff replied to Corrado_Addict's topic in General Car Chat
I sold my well sorted corrado vr6 for something a little more practical and ended up buying a 99 uk turbo, (4 doors) with the prodrive ecu, 260bhp/258lbt intercooler etc and prodrive handling pack, which consists of the bilstein dampers and eibach springs. Gotta say the impreza is in a different league for acceleration and handling and ive had two vr6's for over 6 years, but maybe a standard uk turbo would be a better comparison. Mine also has uprated drop links, anti lift kit etc and is totally flat at any speed anywhere, probably a bit to hard if im honest but its a weekend car so gonna leave as is. Gotta say though i really miss the vr and still get a funny feeling when i see one on the road, mine always did feel proper planted to with the koni adjustables fitted and above 90 i dont think theres a huge performance margin between the two with the impreza having the drivetrain losses. Definatly a car that feels like you need to track day it though because my driving skills are way below what my car feels like it could achieve with a good driver and a racetrack and the classic impreza still only weighs 1240kg so has a good power to weight but they are proper shite on fuel! Must still miss the rado though because i still come back and have to have a ganders on here now and again, maybe i will own a low mileage, twilight violet vr6 with grey leather one day again! :D -
Probably could of done it myself but I needed it pretty quick as my trusty reliable van had broken down the same week, the price was for parts and labour at quite a good price as my uncle owns a garage, luk clutch was £92 delivered and fork was £28, sorry I had oil and filter in for the £365 to so clutch change prob only cost me £300. Pretty sure the gearbox comes off without removing subframe or anything so should be resonably diy friendly :)
-
Ive just had the same problem on my vr6, I replaced the thrust bearing and also the engaging fork inside the gearbox which had cracked, put a new 'luk' clutch in and now everthings sorted, super smooth, cost £365 all in
-
Yeah have checked the slave cylinder and no leaks anywhere. Gonna get the gearbox off and have a ganders as to whats wrong but pretty sure its the thrust bearing, even a second opinion from my morgan mechanic buddy says its the bearing so hope it is. Am a bit weary of putting a new clutch in also as clutch was always supersmooth before this problem. Kinda thought the gearbox would come out without to much bother as there seems to be a bit of room down there, not like when i took the gearbox off my old 16v clio which was a pig but still only took an hour! thanks for replies guys much appreciated, this is my second vr and i love em to bits cant see me ever selling it :D
-
Hi all, I think my thrust bearing has collapsed inside my gearbox as ive got hardly any clutch pedal resistance apart from a bit right at the end of its travel and i have a rattling sound on tickover which goes away if the clutch pedal is depressed. Now id like to do the job myself but does anybody know if the gearbox will come out without removing the subframe? also what is the best clutch kit to go for on a 93 vr6? many thanks matt.

Ive had two corrado vr6's for a span of 6 years and both of them have popped on overrun from the backbox, i thought it was quite normal, certainly sounds good! I still get 39 mpg on a long steady run so i dont think mine is overfuelling.
-
Cracking cars had a couple and a 309 gti!, if it was my grand i think id have a renault clio 1.8 16v though, still love the look of a nice standard one.
-
I thought the photoshop skills were a bit rough, but now looks good, welcome :D
