Yeah I had a classic scooby that have given bikes a hard time, but your right it'll be down to the driver. I reckon the mk2 golf will weigh in at around 1150kg, mk1 900kg, he has stripped everything!! and my corrado will be 1260kg so I'm hoping their lumps are putting out low power!
-
Right my good pal has almost finished his mk1 golf vr6 convertible project and now my other mate has just purchased a mk2 golf with a full corrado 2.9vr6 conversion, so whos gonna be the quickest?? We were having a good old old natter in the pub the other night and we are all getting a bit older now, (well not that old) so we all fancy doing the nurburgring trip:-), before we get too old that we just can't be bothered! So who is going to be left behind? My corrado has the stealth overbore rebuild and i reckon is pushing out 200bhp with similar torque and obviously the other two have the power to weight advantage, but i reckon it's gonna like this golf mk1 half a car in front of the mk2 with the mk2 half a car in front of me, BUT when we get to 120+, (on the autobahns of course) then the aerodynamics and the slighty bigger bang of my car will come into play, the golf is an obd2 2.8 by the way. Kinda sound like a big kid here but has anybody had their vr corrado against a mk2 vr6?, i'm being told i'll be blown into wind!... so need some backup;-)

I had to break out the rado in the snow, here's mine and the boy at a secret sledging spot!
-
Swampy ill check it out;-)

Thanks guys are the mk4 gti pads the absolute best ones to get? also just get the standard 288 vr6 mk3 discs? only asking as I had a prodrive scooby that had the standard four pot brakes which were not particularly effective but the uprated pads made a huuuge difference, they were more for track work as you could feel them bite more and more as the brakes got hotter, not great when they were cold!
-
You wouldn't think just 8mm would have such an improvement? But then that's round the whole diameter of the disc and the calipers are probably of better design and clamp with a bit force? And they are a cheap mod so ill report back!, good ridge hoses won't go a miss with this mod to eh?
-
I can't believe I just said 'use my old discs!' must of had a funny turn!
-
Well I'd defo like to keep the oe look with the 15" speedlines so ill go on the hunt for some 288's then! And I just use my original corrado vr6 discs and pads right?
-
Will do swompy:-D, hoping to go soon but kids take up soo much time, but i'll let you know when!
-
lol, cheers emu! filling me with confidence on the upgrade:-D

I don't think it was the back going light, I remember an occasion when I almost lost the back end in my old vr6 at well over 100mph, new trouser moment but she looked after me in the end:-) I think with a combo of the car being lowered and quite stiff with the koni's set to firm maybe there was a lot of force Being transfered to all the components and it just felt like the front end was twisting actual metal, not weight transfer, more like flex? it was slowing from about cough#$ 1#€ mph into bumpy right handed corner so maybe most cars would be in the limit:-D I always found the vr6 more fun the harder I drive it though, and I sure did need the weekend blast it was great fun
-
Yeah the cloth seats did seem more comfy, but the leathers are also more practical being wipe clean for when the boys occasionally throwing his dinner round in the back:-(
-
Thanks anton! ill definatly use your description to check the windscreen, I've checked the sunroof and water definatly gets away under the back of the wheel arch and also I have no wet headlining. But I do have a patch of rust on the front wing where the front wing meets the door along about halfway up where the panels fold, if you know what I mean? I think it might be the wing that's letting water in so a combination of that and the windscreen seal maybe. I have a sheet over the car on my drive at the moment and its all dried out now, but ill get the hosepipe out at the weekend and sort this once and for all!

Thanks for the info jim, great help:-) ---------- Post added at 10:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:31 AM ---------- Also I felt a bit of twisting, squirming from the front end when I really stood on the brakes, never had this on my other vr's so I'm thinking the strut turrets? so a strut brace would help there surely? I was braking hard from about 100mph? felt quite strange, all the bushes are new and rear beam bushes have recently been done too?
-
Ive a bit of a dodgy windscreen seal on the drivers side top corner, I'm in process of getting to the bottom of a damp drivers footwell so maybe it's this??

I'm well into my mountain biking, do a bit of downhill/ all mountain and a but of jumping, sold a lapierre zesty for a 160/150mm trek remedy, great bikes, used to race Bmx a few years ago too, and have just sold a mint redline flight xxl with the carbon answer sycthe fork, if anybody's going for a ride close to me (Worcester) give me a shout! Forest of Dean is near me and also done the downhill runs at stile cop at Cannock chase here's my remedy and my redline
-
Cheers jim, is that the biggest I can go then with the standard 15" speedlines? And are the calipers from the mk4? so I know what to search for on ebay:-)

Was just wondering if the leather seats for corrados were exactly the same right through the years? I know the door cards changed at 92', but i mean are the leather seats from a 91 car exactly the same dimensions as say a late storm model, I'm only asking because I have just fitted a set of early leather seats in my vr6 and for some reason they feel different to the cloth 93/94 variants that I had fitted? Yesterday I couldn't seem to get comfy, did in the end but they feel a bit longer in the lumbar, under the thigh department.

I'm after a front drivers side LC6V pearl green wing for a 1992 vr6, if anybody has one? ill take it ASAP I'm in upton upon Severn, Worcestershire but can collect no worries thanks matt
-
Well yesterday confirmed why I feel the need for a brake upgrade, the vr6 can get get quite a truck on with a spirited drive and yesterday the old girl really didn't give me a lot of confidence that I was a gonna 'a' end up in the hedge and '2' have a trip to a&e! Ive done a bit of a search and obviously I'm limited as I'd like to keep the standard 15" speedline look if possible? so I take it the biggest I can go is the 288 setup from the mk4's? is it worth doing the rears as well? So what are my options? and where's the best place to get the bits from, ebay? cheers matt

C350 hmm is that the diesel?, if so they are 250bhp with a wallop of torque so you did well! But the vr6 is a quick car, you've got to rev the nuts off them! And i think I'm definatly going to need uprated brakes as I never remember being quite so worried at the lack of braking force in my old vr,s? Or maybe im to used to to my 330d sport brakes. the rear discs are bigger than the rado's fronts! the thing has awesome brakes in comparison. I also felt quite a lot of twist from the front end when I really stood on the brakes? would a front strut brace help with this? I think ill do a search...

The sun was shining so I had a good old blast in the rado today, brought back so many memories why I love driving the vr6, the steering wheel tugging giving you feedback through a bumpy corner and the relentless growl of the vr engine, even managed to scare myself a bit and realised that I may need the old 288 brake upgrade with decent pads! Have definatly missed driving a vr!:-D

I've had a heater matrix go on me in the past on my old vr and there was quite a funny wif if i remember, also the previous owner has replaced the matrix so don't think its that. Definatly weather related but i do get a bit of condensation when its sort of coldish and raining and you need the blowers on, i get this a bit in my 330d to sometimes. And my windscren seal isnt brilliant either, if i can i'll post up a pic of it as could well be the culprit i reckon and thanks for the link for the sound proofing, i'll check it out! Getting the time to do it is my biggest thing at the mo though!
