  1. I could be on to a winner here, tax free '72 Bay, and a forth coming Corrado classic policy.....nice! Tax free is good, only time I've ever 'bought' a full years car tax.
  2. Cool, does that mean youl'l be free to slot mine in then? Too cold for me to do it! :)
  3. nice one, pre-empted my next request for any tips. As said above, too bloody cold to get on with it!
  4. all good advice chaps, much appreciated, want the 'ol gal back on the road!
  5. cheers chap, is what I suspect, might risk trying a GSF Golf unit.......
  6. Come on guys....at the least does anyone know if the Mk2 Golf or Mk3 Golf steering rack will fit an early 16v C?
  7. Is that actually true ( No means to question your knowledge butit's the first time I've heard that! ) Well, it's my personal experience of 8 years owning my 16v Corrado, and other 16v owners have confirmed it (see above). Trust me, rag the arse off it, they love. Too many people shy away form the 16v as if it's a leper compared to the VR. They're both great rewarding cars in their own way, they just need different driving techniques. Go on, rag it, you know you want to!
  8. Hi all, been off here for a while due to getting in to air-cooled Veedubs a lot recenty, ('72 Bay ), but still have and love my C. But...last night my steering rack went big time, losing all the fluid. I think I may have bought a second hand spare a couple of years ago, but need to wade through all my mountains of VW junk to see if I have it or not. If I haven't got an old one, anyone know a decent place to get a new rack from for reasonable money? GSF say they don't do them for the 16v Corrado. Will a Golf one fit? Anyone dgood sources out there... ta muchly in advance. :)
  9. If you're new to driving 16v's, make sure you are keeping the revs up when you drive her too, might make you feel you don't need to bother doing anything modification wise. Had mine for a while unitl I realised you need to rag it a bit to get the most of them, as they 'breathe' so well. Feels a bit like your thrashing it, but they love it!
  10. think they do a packet of various sizes, you know, hanging on the rack with all their other bargains, like 4 (four, count 'em!) crimp connectors for around £50, or 2 Scotchloks for a fiver etc! !
  11. Hi Randal / All! I'm fine thanks, still a Corrado devotee, but been on a steep air-cooled learning curve since bought the Bay about ten months ago, and getting heavily in to the air-cooled scene. Still cherish the Corrado though, so I'm still about! Adios for now!
  12. Hi, well no restoration photo's as such, mines a mobile work in progress (aren't they all!)..... :)
  13. I've had a '72 Bay myself for about 9 months or so, slowly doing it up (hence been spending more time on the air-cooled forums than on here lately(sorry!) . If you get stuck drop me a line. Some excellent Forums out there for air-cooled - Just Kampers Forum is nice place, and of course Volkszone is great for air-cooled. Enjoy, Corrado's are great in their way, Bays are great in their own way too. I love 'em both to bits.
  14. hmm women come and go, the Rado stays! I reckon anyway.
  15. 'If you want something doing properly'...hate taking anything to the 'professionals', esp. stealers. Last time went to a so called VW specialist got royally shafted.....never again!
  16. Faithless, Faithless, and ...erm, Faithless usually
  17. Yep, just some clear plastic held on with velcro buttons.
  18. Yep, code is LD6U for pearlescent Dark Green (the exciting official name for the colour). Not common it seems (mine was the only one at Woburn '03 for example. Never been able to get any paint factors yet to succesfully mix it, as never found one with a list that includes LD6U. I like to think of it as more of a dark grey than green!
  19. Nice one guys, Corrado is now top of the top 5 rated cars ! Keep 'em coming.
  20. Not been on here for a while - spending too much time looking after my Bay (air-cooled I know - sorry), but the point is..... .....just took a look at http://www.peachorlemon.com ....and the Corrado is in the top five in the 'peach' ratings! 8) If you haven't already, post your Corrado ratings and see if we can get VW's best in top position, instead of a bloody Volvo!
  21. BTW, I know it's a bit late for you, bit might help others...Lucas can do a same day alternator overhaul for rather less than a new / exchange unit.
  22. How much did GSF want for it, as mine is too squeeky to live with on 1 and 2 speed settings
  23. Hmm, mine has done this since I had her, about 6 years ago. Went to VW and they kindly diagnosed I needed a new clutch for £300 fitted. I declined their kind offer, and still going fine all this time later. Think it's just a fairly common thing with the C and VW's in general. As per the Owners Manual, you need to wait a few seconds before going from a forward gear in to reverse. I always slip her in to a forward gear like first or second, and then in to reverse, which normally makes it go in to reverse easier, for me anyway. Hope that makes sense!
