  1. Are the front wings the correct wider / later ones for the wider track of the VR?
  2. VRs sit lower on the drivers side due to the weight of the engine on that side and the lighter gearbox on the other on the front and the fuel tank at the rear. Make sure the tyres are actually the same size (what size are they?) and measure from the centre of the wheel to the top of the arch for comparison.
  3. We see so many pics of nice cars here maybe we should start a thread where we show our daily's encrusted in dirt and grime and I'd bet they're still in better condition than that chancers **** pile. Mine's a daily at the moment and its not been washed since April and it still looks cleaner than that!
  4. Please form an orderly queue........ Better cars have been broken
  5. Mine was delivered for free today, still available by the looks of it?

Thanks, I think you mentioned it on Jims engine overhaul thread, its good to know most machine shops can cope with it

They've done a turbo conversion on a forum members car this year, I suspect an email reply given all the options available for the subject would be long winded, it would be better to phone them?

http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?91837-Schrick-VGI-manifold-and-goodies I wasn't aware you needed different springs with these cams? Nice to have yes, but not compulsory?

Check the label on the coolant as some will cause overheating if used neat. If you're using the old sump put a straight edge across the bolt holes to make sure the holes aren't pulled into the gasket allowing the oil to seep where the clamping force is reduced between the bolts

Who machined the block for you? Kev Bacon has mentioned they need to be honed in a certain way to prevent oil usage.

Recon standard or uprated injectors? Its sounds like the kind of car I'm aiming for, eventually......

I have a lightened flywheel (6KG from memory - its been machined by Hotgolf on CGTi), I'm not sure what I'll do with the crank and I've heard bad things in general re the light weight pulleys, so standards ones for me I think

I have a new set of 3L Wiseco pistons, so its good to know you engine seems OK so far :) I'm no expert re the running in process, but if it was mine I'd try to keep the clean as possible. The engine remanufacturers machinery won't be as accurate as the multi million pound VW CNC item, so its more important IMO to run it in compared to say a brand new VW supplied car

The reason for using mineral oil is so the piston rings wear into there bores for best possible seal. Did the engine builder not advise you? I'd have said 2 changes of mineral oil (one as you've already done, another at 1500 miles) then semi synth at 5000 miles, others will know better. What's the engine spec?
  16. I'm not trade but have the black set up without the middle so its of interest to me, I copied and pasted the above from another forum.
  17. Chucked the whole lot in, the pump seems to be a press fit into the centre part of the swirlpot
  18. My pump itself was fine, the centre part of the swirlpots rubber mounts had fallen apart and rotted away, the replacement out of my storm was different with the rubber hangers on the outside of the pump, the original pump had a steel ring sandwiched between upper and lower parts with the rubber hangers inside the pot itself.
  19. I will say my car is starting much better with the preloved pump fitted, even though its quite noisy in operation. When I removed the pipes to the previous pump only a small amount of fuel leaked out under hardly any pressure
  20. For those like me who have top chest and cabinet, Usually £200 full price or £160 with trade card. Until Monday 31st August, £100 or £90 with 10% discount code B16WT01. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductMobileDisplay?catalogId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=255214&productId=1099767&storeId=10001
  21. If cheap oil filters that don't have the non return fitted are used oil drains back to the sump when the engine is stopped allowing the tappets to also drain and make a row on start up, the non return on a VR6 is fitted to the block? as the filter is just a paper element.
  22. I've not changed a VR filter (its on my to do list), but other filters I have changed would pour out of either end suggesting there is no one way valve inside the filter itself? I use lots of filters at work with direction indicators on, there is reinforcement in one direction only to prevent the filter element (card / paper) being dislodged and causing havoc down stream, I presume the fuel filters are the same? If the filter collapsed you wouldn't want bits of filter element stuck in an injector for example. Providing the pressure is at the injectors I can't see why you couldn't fit the non return in the engine bay should you wish to do so?
  23. The non return is placed between the pump and FPR to maintain pressure when the pump is stopped, the return to the tank remains untouched as I read it?
  24. Nothing was reset, the VR warms up quickly (compared to PD diesels anyway), it was an MFA reading so optimistic anyway. I always brim the tanks of my cars and reset the trip too, for comparison purposes, MK3 tdi estate 55mpg, MK4 pd diesel estate 52mpg, 1.8T Octavia estate 33mpg, MK4 estate V5 10V 31mpg, VR6 28MPG, A80 cab 26MPG. All are / were over long term ownership, not just a single tank, I've lived in the same place for 11 years and worked at the same place for 14 years, I tend to accelerate briskly and cruise at or around the speed limit
