VR6 ABV crank position sensor question - now fuel pressure issue
Dox replied to fendervg's topic in Engine Bay
But you had a spark and fuel when the car wouldn't start? I use a jump lead to check for a spark, one clip on a good engine earth point the other on the plug, no shocks. -

So you had a spark from number one and smelt fuel too but the car wouldn't start on the 5 cylinders left untouched? -

When the engine cuts and wont start what's missing, spark, fuel or both? -
If you suspect there's a screw through the loom you need to disconnect the battery asap
-
Could you have caught of the looms with a dash screw?

Check for 12V at the small wire on the starter and the fuel pump connector on the tank when cranking. Be careful of the engine starting whilst your hands are inside the bay

I cant see a part number on it - probably a label removed when fitted? Anything rubber inside the swirl pot / pump assy is just a melted mess, the G60 pump is seized so I've fitted the whole assy from the storm - this pump is noisy, but not too bad, I can hurl the car around roundabouts now with no starvation and once primed the car seems to start better, but its early days.
-
I've not been well for the last few days, hopefully I'll pull the pump again tomorrow and swap it either for a G60 housing assy and my current pump or the whole pump assy from my storm.
-
I've posted these pics before, my car cuts on low tank around roundabouts due to the pump / swirl pot assy rubber mounts dissolving, as the pump is now resting on the floor of the tank the pump is noisy and can be heard at idle

This is my pump assy The rubbers that hold the pump central and off the bottom of the tank in the swirl pot have rotted away I think the best thing for me is to swap the pump out with the one from my other car -

I don't suppose your car cuts out on 1/4 tank of fuel or less when negotiating roundabouts? -

I've swapped the maf and on first impression there's no difference with the starting, I've left it on and will monitor over the next few days if the situation is better or worse - I've read that hotwire mafs do a heating / cleaning process after turning the engine off so as the used maf has been sitting on a shelf for a couple of years its likely to be contaminated to some degree or other. -

Scanned mine 00537 Lambda regulation 11-10 control limit not reached - intermittent 00513 engine speed sensor 03 - 00 no signal (discounted as the engine wasn't running at the time so even a good sensor will show this code. So looks like lambda or MAF as one is used to calculate the out of tolerance of the other. I have a used MAF in unknown condition so may try that for a comparison and check the wiring to the lambda -
20 Year old dampers will be knackered by now, I know my current OE ones are at 104K miles

I've recently started to have similar issues, I suspect the cam sensor, the crank does 2 rotations for every one of the cams, the ecu uses the cam sensor to know which cylinder is on TDC on its firing stroke to determine timing of the spark, if the cam sensor is duff the ecu calculates the same thing via the crank sensor but it needs extra cranking to work this out. Its just a guess though -
I have one provisionally sold to Dazfxvw, if he doesn't go ahead with the sale after he gets back off his hols I'll message you
