I've not changed a VR filter (its on my to do list), but other filters I have changed would pour out of either end suggesting there is no one way valve inside the filter itself? I use lots of filters at work with direction indicators on, there is reinforcement in one direction only to prevent the filter element (card / paper) being dislodged and causing havoc down stream, I presume the fuel filters are the same? If the filter collapsed you wouldn't want bits of filter element stuck in an injector for example. Providing the pressure is at the injectors I can't see why you couldn't fit the non return in the engine bay should you wish to do so?

Reliability - 2.0 16 vs VR6? Anyone using a VR6 daily? Anyone want a valver?
Dox replied to MZpog's topic in General Car Chat
Nothing was reset, the VR warms up quickly (compared to PD diesels anyway), it was an MFA reading so optimistic anyway. I always brim the tanks of my cars and reset the trip too, for comparison purposes, MK3 tdi estate 55mpg, MK4 pd diesel estate 52mpg, 1.8T Octavia estate 33mpg, MK4 estate V5 10V 31mpg, VR6 28MPG, A80 cab 26MPG. All are / were over long term ownership, not just a single tank, I've lived in the same place for 11 years and worked at the same place for 14 years, I tend to accelerate briskly and cruise at or around the speed limit -

My standard VR does 28 - 30 MPG on average, I do very little in town driving though. On a recent trip to Leeds and back the MFA read 38 MPG. Other than general servicing I've not spent anything on the engine. I wouldn't swap mine for a 16V -
212BHP for me, loosing 100cc wont have much affect, you still have the inlet mani and TB off the 2.9 engine, plus cams, filter and exhaust. You may lose a little due to the engine being brand new and a bit tight.

It would be interesting to see a remapped before fitting and after fitting dyno and evaluate whether its worth the risk of the ecu ignoring knock compared to power gain - if any. I suspect Vince will direct you to a bin located in the corner of his workshop lol

I have more images on my phone if you have WhatsApp? Unused for 8 years or so, no movement in the bearing and no leaks prior to the pipework being removed 2 weeks ago. The body of the pump and pulley is rusty, I suspect its the 25 year old original.

I have 2 sets of rear lights and 2 number plate panels too, both have some damage from removal

Have you checked the wiring to the MAF plug?
-
Now's the time to buy one, its unlikely they'll ever become cheaper :)

Drove the Corrado to wickes yesterday for drill bits, then filled up with fuel and parked it in the street as I was working on the drive. 9PM last night after walking the dog I went to put the car on the drive and the clutch pedal was on the floor.... I manhandled the car onto the drive and noticed a puddle of fluid on the road where it was parked. This morning I had a look and spotted fluid dripping out of the bellhousing = slave cylinder, went down to the shed and found an OE preloved cylinder, fitted it and its better than its ever been. Prior to this the pedal hadn't been returning all the way to the top.

20 year old spring plates will be very grotty by now, by the time you've bought them, had them posted, had them blasted / coated there wont be much of a saving? Have Bonrath gone bust or changed their name? They used to do the top plates that lower an extra 10mm or so for similar money. I'm not sure if these are correct for your application, but you could message them? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SPRING-PLATES-FRONT-BONRATH-191412341-FOR-VW-GOLF-MK2-Mk3-SEAT-IBIZA-CORDOBA-/351390631290?hash=item51d083857a

Its a bit sloppy of them considering it has had a clutch, an extra 2 hours and £250 in parts (most likely free from ECP anyway)would have seen the job through. I can't actually remember anyone chains snapping being reported on here in recent times? If the car had been a storm would it have been snapped up by now?

1H0 is MK3 Golf / Vento I believe? This may help widen your search? So probably GTis and TDis? I presume you've seen these? £55 for a pair. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK3-GTI-VR6-SPRING-PLATE-CAP-FOR-FRONT-SUSPENSION-STRUTS-GENUINE-VW-/161367779677?hash=item259244e95d

Have you rand C&R or Awesome gti? They must sell them all the time?

I took mine out, I wish now I'd replaced the foam padding on the flaps while it was out, live and learn. Some have struggled and done it with the dash in situ

What are the symptom of the headgasket? If its mixing oil with coolant then investigate the heat exchanger before headgasket.

PM'd you an email address of a guy I've used in the past, a bit short notice though
