  1. I'm just curious about how the air intake temperature may differ between a standard box air filter and an aftermarket cone etc. If anyone has a VR with stock filter and VAG-COM then please (if you can be arsed) report your temps. Obviously it would be good to have temps reported that derive from a warmed up engine! Preferably when the fans have kicked in (will show hottest intake). And I should also say while the car is parked and idling. I'm interested if the stock box actually shields the filter considerably, thus reducing intake temp. Cheers peeps.
  2. The man (I say man in it's broadest possible term) is quite obviously a complete pr*ck. Tell him to feck off. BMW owner  pr*ck
  3. An on the spot fine (£30 IIRC) should be issued for no seatbelt, the police sometimes offer you an appeal if you want (like they do with speeding fines), but obviously there is no point. I can't believe the CPS would bother with that, you need to make sure that your details were logged when you provided them at the station, they may not have been noted as being produced, which would make sense regarding the summons.
  4. I was quoted £800 for a screen some time back, cacked myself! If your fully comp. then just pay £50 for the replacement at no cost to your no claims bonus. Most insurance companies do this. EDIT: sorry just spotted your TPFT
  5. Hardly groundbreaking technology considering the Audi TT 3.2 has that.
  6. No there isn't, because out of the 440 made, 430 were converted back to standard Carlton's so the owner didn't have to sit through the 2 hour ignition check
  7. They should have spent more than a tea break on the design, I reckon it's fast so people don't have to look at it, ugly bas*ard IMO. Bonnet from a Beetle, looks more like a snazzy Nike trainer than a car.
  8. Yeah, the throttle is quite stiff, and becomes extremely stiff (as if the cable is going to snap) if you try and push it flat to the floor. I assumed the cable was catching inside the casing, but your description sounds more feasible. Where would these "kits" be available? Gavin, I'll get back to you mate, I can't get hold of my brother at the mo, cheers for the offer. EDIT Gavin PM
  9. Excellent, cheers chaps, great bit of advice, the brakes were a bit of a shock (especially to me!) but yeah an emergency stop is not impossible! The lack of power steering is also quite shocking to experience after all these years of taking it for granted. The carb is indeed a Weber replacement, so that should be OK. Again thanks for the input, my brother will appreciate that. MB
  10. My brother just bought a Scirocco GTII today, excellent condition in and out at a good price. I changed the plugs, filters, leads and gave the carb a good clean, I just wanted to know if there are any bits I should look at that are prone to going wrong? The carb itself isn't solid (moves about a bit) although I think a new seal will sort that out. I'm not sure what kind of performance he should be getting from the car, although it doesn't feel like it's pulling like it ought to (or is that a carb engine for you?) So if any Scirocco Guru's can give me any pointers it will be much appreciated. Cheers MB
  11. Yeah the Enzo, IMO a very strange looking car, I would probably go so far to say ugly myself. Car manufacturers are basically running out of ideas, which is why if you drive into town nowadays you are surrounded by a large grey mass of cars that all look the same! "Oh look is that the new BMW, no the new Merc, no it's the new Vauxhall, no I don't know, it's just another big grey car" Won't be long before our personal identities are completely wiped out! :)
  12. The S/R runs off of fuse 21, mine kept blowing, turned out that there were a few small "filings" in the S/R switch, took it apart, cleaned it, job done. May be a possible problem on your C?
  13. Ssangyong Rodius? It is absolutely disgusting, although maybe not quite as bad as jamzontoast's Pontiac Aztec, that car actually made me honk.
  14. Unfortunately there were nearly 1,000,000 Whizzkid's made IIRC! I think a few thousand or more were sent to the UK, most of them have probably disappeared down drains and potholes :)
  15. Yeah, dodgey MOT Inspectors  Apart from the obvious (pads, tyres, washer jets, bulbs etc) your just gonna have to hope for the best mate! I bloody hate MOT's being carried out on my car, your better off not watching IMO :)
  16. Yep 10L Sorry I meant 2.5L of coolant in with 7.5L of water.
  17. Make sure you fill up through the top rad hose, filling through the tank can cause airlocks. You only really need 2.5L of coolant as too much can damage the head gasket.
  18. I wouldn't worry about the position of the Storm badge mate, the lower half of my C was resprayed after some d*ck smacked me up the arse in his Mini. The coachwork's obviously had to remove and replace the badges which let's just say wasn't done with the greatest of care! Nice buy! :)
  19. Yep great looking car but for me it is bordering on interesting not beautiful, in the same way that I find Jamie Lee Curtis interesting but not beautiful. Strange how no Ferrari's have been mentioned, or is it?
  20. I thought I'd ask this question mainly because I know it will start some interesting arguments! Please give only one car for each title. This can include any production car, on the road or otherwise. So please no concept cars. And please, give reasons if you wish, it will give more scope for others to shoot you down! :) My choices Best looking: Aston Martin DB9. Always loved Aston's, beautiful cars that don't look like big toys (Italian Exotica anyone!). Most ugly: Fiat Multipla. WTF is it?! (A couple of Citroen's and Saab's came close).
  21. Well, it seems that the Campaign and AC Cobra Coupe (never seen one!) are both in joint first place so far, with a production of 6. I know of a few cars that were produced in lower numbers, but are they still on the road?
  22. Well seeing as the pump is aluminium and will expand quicker maybe try heating that. It's not something I've ever tried (or heard being tried!) so I would find out if it is safe to perform first!! :) I would personally heat it small amounts and let it cool each time, as the ali will also cool quicker than the steel, don't blame me if your engine melts!! Oh and don't worry about the pulley, is it normally removed on this job anyway.
  23. Hmm, aluminium will expand far quicker than steel under heat, although this may not be a bad thing, either way the casings should part. Obviously be careful how you do it.
