Was talking to the new neighbours, and he said 'It's a lovely car- I notice it every time it's parked on the drive'. Someone else asked me if I was selling it the other day. Er, no!

Huw's looking superb, Chris 8) Pretty much perfecto if you ask me! :salute: Amazing how small they are, even compared to modern hatches.

That'll be Power Rohr- copy cat! Looks good, especially with the spruced up mani 8) -
It's the sort of thing they won't have on the webpage, but they nearly always have them in store.
-
Halfords do them as a 'Brake Pad Fitting Kit' ;)

You need late ones mate :)

Yeh, it's funny how the top layer of dry carpet stops the smell so well. Mine was just a bit musty sometimes, but like yours, when I pulled them up it was disgusting!
-
Vaughan- they need to be good as the water will find any route it can. Jake, will get pics up in the next couple of days. Carpets now in- really like the black 8)

Spent yesterday removing the dash etc. Gonna replace the matrix while I'm at it. The most frustrating part was one of the matrix hose clamps :bad-words: Took the carpet out too. The car has always had a slight musty smell, and to my horror, there was water in both footwells under the bottom layer of underlay. The underlay was disintegrating and smelt terrible :gag: . When changing the cards a while back, I noticed that they had new door membranes. Guessing that these were leaking, but the carpets weren't taken up and dried out. The carpets have always been dry, but the rubber layer in the underlay, would stop it drying out totally underneath. Cleaned up the mess and waxoyled. Gonna put the new black carpet with good underlay in this afternoon 8) Did a few cleaning jobs while everything was out. Cleaned up the wiper mech and resprayed it black- looks so much better now. Also bought the Passat wiper motor cover, which smartens things up a lot + stops water getting at the motor. So, gotta get it all back together by Monday  Hope I remember where everything goes!

Just change the switch and go from there. Get a genuine one from VW, and don't bother screwing the tiny screw back in afterwards in case you have to remove it again. Tie a cable tie around instead. Try the search- absolutely loads on ignition switch replacement. Obviously, if it still isn't working after replacement, you have a prob with the barrel- again, the search is your friend.

1.8T would be my choice. Can be done fairly cheaply (in comparison to other modern engines), and more to the point, can be done fairly easily as opposed to the others. It seems to take people an absolute age to get their 3.2's running right etc. I'd go for an AUQ, which is the most powerful KO3s engine, or a BAM, which runs the KO4. The AQU can achieve around 230bhp & 240lbs of torque quite reliably. BAM is the one if you want bigger power- 225 out the box, with over 270 achievable. Drop Panderoo a pm- he did his own AUQ conversion and he loves it :)

shit! - rounded some allen head bolts :-( advice needed

Had precicely the same prob with the coilpack allen bolts on my last VR. Nothing would budge them. Got some Irwins and they literally took a couple of seconds to get off 8) -
Good work, Vaughan- nice and minty :)

It's looking good there Jake :) -
Had these idiots around our way too a few months ago, waiting at a 60-30mph delimitation. I was a little puzzled at first when I saw the gun, but when I noticed who was holding it, breathed a sigh of relief  And yes, they did seem to get excited and trigger happy when I approached. Reckon I was defo going too fast, but never got a letter.

Surely this should be in the 'Wanted' thread? You'll get more response in there...
-
You can also adjust the two rubber 'stops' on the tailgate. They just twist in and out.
-
Looks good- how do you use it then?
-
Yup, just hacksaw off the lower middle tab on the late grille and it goes on. It will sit slightly further forward than the early grille, but still looks good.
-
:salute: Thanks Steve!

It's from a Passat of the same era - still available new from VW Anyone got a part no? Can't find it in Vagcat :(
-
Well done, Yan. Those advisories are all easily sorted too :)

Managed to remove the glue residue from under the bonnet (where the sound deadening foam used to be). Took a couple of hours and a combination of ice scraper, Desolv-it, white spirit and immense elbow grease  Glad it's done- been meaning to do for months, but couldn't face it!
-
Just seen this, Jim- really glad you've decided not to break it So gutting when things like this happen, and they always seem to happen when you're skint :( Totally worth sorting the old girl though 8)
