Supercar experience.. and bumping into forum members!
CazzaVR replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Sounds fantastic, mate! Brilliant array of cars to drive. Gotta do this one day! Tracking the vRS at Castle Combe in a couple of weeks, but it's not quite the same as driving something really powerful and built for it. -
All coming along nicely 8) Speedies look excellent :D
-
Where's he going? Thought you were keeping him! :(
-
...until? Surely not baby time yet?! If so, all the best :)
-
Cheers, chimp :)
-
Needed new tyres, and was lucky enough to get some mint 17" vRS Spiders complete with nearly new Goodyear Eagle F1s off Ebay for a very good price ;) Think it looks sooooo much better on 17s. Just need some coilovers now!
-
Spotted a blue C heading northbound on the M5 near J13 @ around 2pm, wednesday.
-
This looks like it's gonna be superb! Great job on the engine bay 8) Is the engine totally standard, or has it been fettled?
-
Can't go wrong with black- looks really mean, especially with the wheels 8) Engine bay is lush! :luvlove:
-
Cheers, Vaughan :) Will need to check the discs and pads- still feel great, but you never know! Got yours on yet?

Also fitted a new N75 valve to smooth out the boost. Went for the N75J off the Audi Quattro 8) It's a bit hit and miss, depending on the map, but mine is working really well so far. The standard valve was spiking to around 19psi, holding at 15-16, then dropping back slowly in the uppr rev range. The J spikes at 20psi and holds at 17 until around 4.5K revs, where it tails off slowly. The car is defo smoother but feels slightly less agressive, although just as fast (if not a little faster).

Thought I'd better ad some pics, and yes, the car is filthy! Went to my local Longlife Exhaust centre (Berkeley) today, because the Blueflame had started to vibrate a little on idle + the tailpipe didn't sit properly in the cutout. 30 minutes later- new rear hanger, new clamps all round & the exhaust is nowhere near the rear axle anymore, so no more vibrations. Was very, very impressed with the mechanic's no-how and competence. He didn't saunter around like most mechanics- he was working thoroughly and quickly for the full half hour, and also let me stay, watch and have a poke around under the car. So, 30 mins labour, 3 new clamps and a new rear hanger for £30! Would thoroughly recomment them :thumbleft:

Good work, yet again! :salute: You're doing this the right way- it's gonna be like a brand new car the rate you're replacin'/refurbin' everything. Now, onto important things- where's the turbo? :norty:

Hi Jon! Yeh, reckon you're right about the 22mm :) Glad to see me back? I've never been away! Just don't post as much as I used to... Yep, get together sounds good fo' tha summah!
-
Hi mate, yep, 22mm. If money were no object, I'd have gone for the 28mm Neuspeed which are twice the price of the Whiteline  Think the normal RRP for the Whiteline is around £130- managed to get mine for £90 brand new ;) Have you got one on the Leon yet? If not, get one ASAP! Brilliant mod 8) The car feels so much more stable/flat through corners now, and gives a little oversteer if provoked (a lot!). Thinking of getting the S3 lower front brace to keep it all neutral- only £20 from Audi and 10 mins to fit...
-
Hey, navigator! It's gonna be great 8) Gonna have to pootle the first couple of laps ;) Vaughan and the boys are coming too (just in case you need trousers again- you may need a change after the track session! ) should be a good day. We'll have to hire helmets- think it's only a fiver.

Been a while since I last updated... Well, have done a fair bit to the vRS in the last few months. Whiteline Rear Anti-roll Bar. Got it on setting 3 (4 is the hardest), and it's really cut out the understeer. Can even get the back end to slide a little now 8) Much more confident around the twisties- fantastic mod! Performance Torque stage 1 remap. Has transformed the 1.8T from being reasonably quick to being properly quick. Love it- best performance mod I've ever done. Blueflame stainless cat back exhaust. Decent quality system for a good price- very highly recommended by the 1.8T community. However, was a very tight fit and the tailpipe doesn't sit straight. They also sent the wrong tailpipe trim and took over two months to sort it. Not particularly impressed. Wouldn't buy another. Sounds nice though! Jetex downpipe /100 cel sports cat. Got it cheap second hand- have noticed a good increase in mid-range torque since fitting. Newsouth Spectrum boost gauge. Pig to fit (needed to add a relay etc to get it to work off the dimmer switch), but great now it's in place. Next up- 17s. Can't believe the estate came with 16s :cuckoo:  In need of new rubber, so may as well try to sort some cheap 17s with decent rubber. Anyone? Would love to get coilies- they'd finish the car off nicely, but it's well out of my budget for the forseable :(

Good track 8) Have you seen the video? Defo worth checking out!
-
Jon, thought Chiastic Slide was a travesty after Tri Repetae :( Gantz Graf is unlistenable! Drop me a PM re: Spanners  Have you got Bytes by Black Dog Productions? Any B12? Bola?
-
Yep, Amber's my fav too, followed by Incunabula & Tri Repetae. Don't like the newer stuff at all I'm afraid. Maybe I'm missing the point  Have heard Boards of Canada and Plaid on Top Gear too 8) My all time fav album has to be Spanners by The Black Dog 8) . You hear something new on every listen. So original, complex yet simple. Could go on...

Here's an interesting K04 thread. A lot of people with K03s equipped 1.8T engines are now choosing IHI/Garrett set-ups instead of KO4, as the only one that will bolt pretty much straight on is the K04 001. The BAM ones require quite a few other changes and cost a fortune. If you want to go down that route, pop one in in the first place, rather than upgrading later ;) The power increase/reliability etc of the K03s- K04 upgrade isn't worth the money or hassle IMHO.

The Prodigy Experience was total rave, Jilted Generation (Awesome!) moved towards a more intelligent sound with more emphasis on the big beats, Fat of the Land went even more Hip Hop re: the beats, and I guess intro'd the more rocky element, which has become a lot more evident. I think you're right- I reckon they've both influenced each other- initially Pendulum by the Prodigy, and now Prodigy by Pendulum! I think the success of the latest Pendulum stuff has made the Prodigy realise they can actually go back and put all those influences together, crank it all up and it will sell. Not sure if it's for me though! :?

Been revisiting all the old Warp stuff after looking at the Warp20 website. Listened to Amber by Autechre today for the first time in around 10 years! Fantastic stuff! Also Laughable Butane Bob by AFX, everything by The Black Dog/BlackDog Productions, Boards of Canada, Black Sea by Drexciya, Uland by Plaid, Aftermath by Nightmares on Wax, LFO, Aphex Twin, Speedy J etc etc! Other than that, been listening to some jazz funk- Idris Muhammad (one like a star etc) & Roy Ayers. Got the new Prodigy album- bit too Pendulum for my liking, although it's early days... Jon, I'll give Irish a listen too 8) *Edit* Just had a quick listen- like it! Have downloaded the tracks for a proper listen tomorrow 8)

Michael, sorry to see the Goof has gone, and astonished to hear the C will be going too! :( :cuckoo:  Such a lovely example, and you've put so much into it! What's the plan? Give us a clue!
