    I have a MK3 16V and the throttle response on that is razor sharp just like a MK1 GTI. The 8Vs are a bit laggy IMO. Gavin

    That'll be the siren under the bonnet. It's the black box you need. Most likely by the bonnet release.

    Have a hunt around under the dash or in the kick panel by the bonnet release and see if you can find the black box. Should have all the details on the outside. Gavin

  6. I used to get 1 BAR at the redline in my Golf with a 68mm. If you're at altitood:lol: in Utah a 65 might compensate for the thin air?? I think the 58mm at BBM is prolly for the Lysholm not a G60. I don't think any one sensible would do one that small for the road. Gavin
  7. Yeah swap the cases, the one I have is a 2 litre GL on a J. Get the number off teh cable and I can cross ref it. Gavin

  12. I am on my 5th Passat Estate(Only a VR6 to go), 1 MK3, 5 MK2s, 4 MK1s, a Scirocco, Oh yeah and a C. Gavin
  13. I drove a LHD S6 avant a couple of years ago. The owner, the husband of my mums pen friend, came home from town and caught me taking a few pictures of it. 'vould you like to drivf it?'( poor attempt at phoenetic German/English) Much jaw dropping nodding followed. Anyway, off we go. LHD not a prob due to having the Golf at the time. Pulls up to the roundabout, creeping forward to get on to it. The throttle had a bit of lag so I had trodden on it without realising how much. We shot across the roundabout and came off the other side doing about 60. :mrgreen: I flicked thru the MFA to see we were doing 20 litres/100km, which is about 15 to the gallon or worse. I make a comment about it but Richard waves his hand and says it can get worse on the Autobahn :shocked!: He also complained that the tyres were too noisey when you get to 260kmh and he is thinking of having them all replaced. Although this doesn't surprise me too much. He just tutted to himself after picking up a puncture with me onboard when I worked in Frankfurt, in his RS4 avant. I would have been in tears, he only had the tyres fitted 2 days earlier. :cry: Anyway, I think as it stands the S6 is the highlight of my motoring to date. A glorious sound and consumption to rival a Syncro Passat. gavin
  14. Chewy were you somewhere nice and warm? :wink: Now you have the car running again, try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery lead again. That works wonders in my experience. DOes it for Airbus every time. If that doesn't work, My mate Zak, works where you do and he fits alarms. Gavin
  15. If a car is reshelled in Germany it assumes the year it was reshelled. ALL Rallyes were built in 1989. In the UK at import it would be given an age related plate based on the date of first registration OR the date of manufacture if that isn't known. VW can find out the date of manufacture based on the chassis number if there is any doubt. I'd want to see all the paperwork before paying over the top, for the LAST ever Rallye. Having said that, assuming it's mint then I don't consider 7500 too much. Gavin
  16. I'd be glad to have all those pipes pulled up. Imagine the consequences of missing them?? They would never fail during gentle braking would they. You wouldn't be too chuffed if he ran into you now would you? Gavin
  17. Dude, that's a shocker. I have arear bias valve off a G60. Prolly find you a battery clamo too. The flexy hoses are only about a fiver each from GSF and 2 rolls of copper pipe is about another £30. Wipers could be the fuse or relay missing maybe? Fettle the headlight bracket with a bit of ally. That'll cure the aim too most likely. Leave all the std brakes just replace the pipework. Buy the flaring tool and its a cheap job. Sometimes a bit awkward to get too. I just take them out with a hacksaw. Get yourself some new clip things from dub. The originals will be shagged. Gavin

  20. I'd fit an oil cooler before a stand alone oil supply. Then chip it. The engine will lap it up with no worries. Gavin
  21. If you decide it is, have a word with TomB. I gave him an inlet cam last weekend. Not sure if he used it or not. In my amateur opinion, that cam is useable. In formula 1 you wouldn't but providing there are no high spots then it shouldn't damage the tappet and would probably run forever. Gavin
  22. The crank pulley bolt may have sheared off. I'd say some invest is required just to make sure.
  23. How about behind the passenger side quarter panel. I had one in there in my golf. Screwed to a piece of MDF and siliconed in place to stop vibration. Gavin
  24. Assuming it's the same length. If you have a part number off it someone can check ETKA for you. There are different lengths on some cars. Gavin

    Track day

    I have had some good trackdays with http://www.easytrack.co.uk. They do Oulton and Elvington up north and all the usual suspects down south. I like Oulton, personally having rated Castle Combe for years until they stuck in 2 extra chicanes and never told me about it. Made myself look a right t1t going for it in the mk1 with a big crowd behind me. They thought I knew what I was doing. I did really just a year behind the times. Next thing monster brake check to stay on the track. Having just recovered from that one I went straight on at the next chicane and had to wait while everyone else overtook me before rejoining the track. :roll: So Hennys comment about winding up slowly is very valid, even at a track you have been to before. If there is access to an instructor I'd take that too. You can get even more from a std car by driving better. gavin
