Buy yourself some new clips from VW and write out 100 times.' I must not use reasonably priced and Volkswagen in the same sentence!!' I am pretty sure they will cost a mint indivdually. I think I have some in my garage but they are the rubber covered ones, let me know if you want me to dig them out. Buy one of these tools so you don't break anything. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/pro_det. ... ir=catalog gavin

The MFA is reading oil temp. The gauge is water temp, if you steamed the engine maybe you have blown the wire off the sender. Have a look around the under the dissy and at the back of the engine. I cannot remember which sender is where. Gavin

No worries mate. If you want a loom, PM me in early december so that I don't have to sit up Christmas eve trying to fill all the orders. And tell the Taxman to 'ram it' from me. I'll be doing my return on jan 31st at 11.59 pm. Just like last year

The pumps only runs to prime the system, which should be at or near full pressure all the time. Pressure needs to be maintained to facilitate quick starting. So that wouldn't be a problem. If your pumps runs all the time then something is wrong. It is also dangerous. In the event of an accident it may pump petrol all over the shop. The pump is triggered by the ECU when the engine is turning and should stop if the engine stalls. I'll send you a PM about the looms in a minute. Gavin

The black wire in the ign switch loom is what I use to inhibit alarms. If that's not what you want, probe the other wires at the switch. Later VWs have a wire that is live with the key in the ign. On my K plate Passat and mk3 I think you have to turn the ign to position 1 and off to get the radio on with the ign lights out. For your reference, the thick red is always live, the thick red/black is the starter, the black is the ign live. One of the others may be what you want. I don't see the problem with having the ign lights on while listening to the stereo. In the old dayd of cars with points it was bad to have the ign switched on like that. The points would be closed and power would flow through the coil constantly causing them to overheat. With electonic ign, this doesn't happen. The coil only charges when the engine rotates, the hall sender is the new points. Gavin

BCP7ET is listed in ETKA for the KR. BKUR7ET is for the 9A. These are down as longlife plugs. The 7 is the heat rating and the ET means triple electrode. The prefix I am not sure about but is probably just different materials or something. I think they'll be OK. Gavin

Is that 'andihaz' as in hazardous material. I bet there is a market for that kind of stuff in the middle east right now. I have a few contacts 'in country' that may be useful! Very good for getting discount Leathermans etc. Gavin

Chris, the operation you describe is correct, 1st click brings on the sidelight bulb but also feeds a low voltage to the dip beam filament on both side of the car. The second click sends full voltage to the dip beam filament. Pulling on the column switch will bring on the main beam filament on both sides of the car and also the spotlight in each headlight ( the inner light). If the above is a true statement, your lights are working as advertised. At this point I'll shut up rather than solicit business. Gavin

If it is moving about under acceleration have a look at the front wihbone bushes. I have had the round/rear ones go on a couple of my VWs. They allow the tracking to change as you go on and off the power and the wheel is able to go where ever it likes. Even if you put new bushes in I'd have a look. Gavin

Back righthand corner of the manifold....facing rearwards. Gavin

The pump is the same as other 4cyl models. It's full-on job to replace it, as the charger has to come out. Only thing about doing the job is a good selection of allen key sockets makes it so much easier. It's going to take a minimum of 3 hours. Gavin

They shouldn't but VW electrics sometimes take on an Italian theme. It's difficult to say for sure without seeing it in person. Gavin

The larger ones you talk of are the indicators mate. I can't explain the dimming dash if it does it with the engine/alternator running. Gavin

I had this once. I had used a staple gun to secure my flat cable to the mdf shelf. One staple had cut the insulation. When you cranked it up it jumped the gap and cut out. There was enough of a spark to blacken the cable!! I'd check all your cables for shorts to earth. Gavin

Prolly be quicker to get it all off and start again, than wait for it to go off in this weather. Unless you can get away with the fumes in the house.

Can you ask your question again but bear in mind that the lights by the front indicators are foglights which have a separate switch to the headlights. On the foglight switch the first click puts on the front fogs the second click, which puts on the warning light in the switch, is the rear fog/s. For the headlights there is a twin filament H4 bulb in the outer lights, dip and main beam. The inner lights have one 55W bulb each and come on when you flash the lights with the switch or when selecting main beam with the headlights on. Another consideration is the dim-dip resistor. When you turn on the sidelights, first click on the headlight switch, a low voltage is passed to the dip beam filaments in the headlight. The second click will bring on the dip beam at full power. If you were to conduct all these checks with the engine off, each additional load would affect the brightness of the dash lighting. Only a little bit though. Hope that helps if not ask again. Gavin

I would clean them with brake cleaner after the brushing. I am not 100% but does white spirit not leave some residue?? When I paint stuff I usually warm it up with a hot air stripper. Not so you can hold it but so that the paint dries pretty quick once applied. If you are using a spray then several thin coats are better than one thick one. With a brush it is a bit harder to control the application. Gavin

Kershaws at Stamford Bridge near York. Motorscope in Thirsk are supposed to be good although I don't have personal experience. Gavin

Looks like I was wrong then  Gavin

Chargers are lubed with a PTFE spray when they are rebuilt. I have run G60s for a number of years and haven't come across any mention of additional lubricatioin being required when running without boost return. I may be wrong however and I am sure g-man and beavis will be along soon to clear the point up. Gavin
