August 93 on I think for the cat. Did you change the brake fluid as well when you did the brakes? You only need the inlet cam from the KR, the exhaust cam is the same. I wouldn't pull the head off without doing some investigation. Do you do short journeys, less than 5 miles or so? That is a more likely cause. Is it using any water? Has the oil cooler/heat exchanger died? Cheaper fixes than having the head apart unnecessarily(spelling?) Gavin

I'd spend some money on the brakes first. A fluid change will probably be well overdue. Maybe some new front disks and Pads (Pagid/Pagid fast road/EBC Greenstuff). You could do an inlet cam for next to nothing, maybe 30 quid? Some kind of panel filter, no preference personally. I have used all kinds in the past. K&N, Jetex etc IMHO they all do the same job. An exhaust and if you are not into the environment a bypass pipe would see off the rest of your 500 notes. All assuming that you can do it yourself. Gavin Oh and welcome.
  3. 89Rallye near me has bought plenty of wheels and shocks from Germany. The couriers have been his problem not the German ebayer. Gavin
  4. In the 'olden days' I had a Jabba chip in my Golf with the standard pulley still fitted. It was a vast improvement over the standard chip. With better economy too. I think it would be a good upgrade for the cash strapped or long distance daily driver. Gavin
  5. Tom, does it say in the auction they will post to the UK? I am surprised they won't return your emails. Most of the Germans I have met speak pretty good English, good enough to understand us. Gavin
  6. Here's mine with subtle body changes!
  7. Option B for me. You can nearly get all 4 Toyos for the price of 2 Yokes. If I cannot find cheap 205s at Inters I'll be buying Toyos from mytyres again. Gavin
  8. I wasn't debating that they work. The point I was making was that they are for Carb engines not injected ones. At less than 10 psi hardly any fuel would come out at all. Gavin
  9. These pumps are well under pressure for fuel injection. We are looking at the best part of 60PSI for digifant and K jet. K Jet is higher than standard digifant. VRs/G60s/2E Passats all run the same 4 BAR pump. Gavin
  10. Don't forget there is a difference between flow and pressure. Quite possible for a pump to produce 5 BAR and not flow enough volume of fuel. Gavin
  11. I reckon it will be the charger/alternator drive belt. My Golf was the same. Genuine VW belts have some crosshatching on them that seems to stop squeaking. Aftermarket belts from GSF are usually smooth and sqeak big time. If you drop a couple of drops of water on the outside of it, it'll stop for a few seconds and then start again as the water evapourates. The coolant leak is more of a worry. That flange can blow and leave you stranded. I would defo check your RAC/AA membership is up to date and have it replaced ASAP. The leak can also cause running problems if the earth wires get corroded. the subsequent bad earth affects the ECU etc. Cheers Gavin
  12. I have used grooved and drilled disks in the past and to be honest for the road I don't see the point. It could be I am getting older and wiser(tighter) but I just use good quality plain disks. Spend the money you save on petrol, beer or perhaps a loom? Possible Trimsport deal coming up for inters. Get some eye candy. Gavin

    con rod bearings

My G60 used to rattle at almost exactly 1900 revs. You could always hear it when in first. I live about 50 yards from some traffic lights and I could hear it every morning if they were red and I didn't rev thru and change to second. You could hear it most on a neutral throttle. The bearings cost about 12 quid from GSF, get a sump gasket too at another fiver. Most folk will tell you to replace the nuts and bolts on the conrods as they are the stretch kind. The Bentley manual states that you can reuse them once. Honestly they are cheap enough to replace. However, I never bothered and I leathered my Golf everywhere after doing the bearings and touch wood, it is still being battered to this day. Over 60000 kilometres later. The only special tools required are a torque wrench that goes down to about 15lbs ft and some 1/4 drive sockets, which make getting the sump off much easier. I reckon a first timer could do it in a couple of hours. If you change your own brake pads and suspension it would be easy. If you can't do that, pay someone to change them. 2 hours labour should more than cover it. Do an oil change at the same time for obvious reasons. Gavin
  14. You could get another dissy and connect it to the lead. Spin it by hand and you should get sparks from the king lead if you hold it near an earth. USING SOMETHING WELL INSULATED. A dissy from a digifant GTI would do the job perfectly. You could fit it as a replacement if yours turns out to be duff. I did see a way of using an lED somewhere might have been on this forum but not sure. Gavin

    supercharger work?

Shouldn't be a kick with a G60 IMHO. Sounds more like a short ECU pipe or belt slippage maybe. Is the car chipped? By who? Gavin
  16. My MK3 16V has 160K on it, It is a better motor than the 9A and KR, it puts out 150bhp std. Thats with a soft inlet cam for emissions. It averages over 35 MPG which I really like too. Gavin
  17. Never heard of them. The site looks pretty similar in content to supergolfs tho. Thing is with all the good press Gwerks and pitstop have would you risk going somewhere else? That's not to say that no one else can rebuild chargers. Gavin

    Rebuilds

http://www.pitstopdevelopments.com is my recommendation. There are other people selling kits out there and this is just a personal opinion. I have use them several times. Gavin
  19. I didn't find the hall sender on the corrado pages, but going back to the 88 Golf. I found 034 998 065 listed as the hall sender. I can't find any other number, not to say that you are wrong mate. Gavin
  20. Getting on the ETKA now Steve, I love a challenge. UPDATE.. 037 905 205K is the part number I found for 89 and 93 PG engines. The same number as 88 on PB engines. No mention of chassis number changes. The 2 litre dissys are different, maybe that's what you were thinking of? Cheers Gavin
  21. Clive, a coil will have 12V on both sides of it with the ign on and the engine not running. The ECU supplies an earth to one side, the intermittent earth controlled by the ECU causes the sparks. Personally, I think you will be wasting money on the coil!! When your car cut out how long had it been running? If the engine was hot, I am more inclined to point a finger at the hall sender. There is a way of checking that with the aid of an LED. I haven't tried this myself but I have read about on the forum. The LED can prove the output of the hall sender. Without the hall sender you won't get any spark. The G60 dissy is the same as other 1800 digifant engines, Golf Passat Jetta etc so don't pay extra because it's a G60. Gavin
  22. ECU hose goes on th etop connection on the TB. Gavin
  23. Corrados were not made at Wolfsburg, So that bit is misleading. However, that doesn't mean that the car is no good. You could definately sell the parts for more than 700 quid. Have you got the ability to put it back together. If not I wouldn't consider doing it. The condition of teh supercharger is the most important aspect of buying a G60. The cost of replacement could easily send an otherwise good car to the breakers.. Are you in the UK or USA? Gavin
  24. Awesome advertise them as being the same so I guess they are. Gavin
