Vince at Scole Engineering could do this kind of thing for you. Not that far to Diss.. 50mm mainfold is better for top end which will mean a loss lower down. I would have the cam first. I had one in my Corrado a while ago, It went pretty well. A good boost on the motorway as you didn't need to change to 4th at 70 to get any acceleration. Gavin

Exhaust cam as inlet cam, Stealth again. Gavin

Try holding the key over in the passenger door, to make sure the closure is working at all. Could be the locking pulse needs extending. My MK3 Golf still shuts the windows and roof, even though the key doesn't work them from the drivers door. Gavin

I'd have the sump off, check the oil pump pick up for crap. Whilst in there change the big ends, as it only costs a tenner for the bearings. Oil change and see what happens then. Gavin

If the hall sender is tits up then the ECU wont know the engine is turning and wont fire teh injectors and coil. No smell of fuel. You should hear the fuel pump run briefly to 'prime' the system, each time you turn the ign on. Try looking for a spark form one of the plugs or the king lead to the dissy. Gavin

Any reduction in weight around the crank will allow the engine to rev quicker. For the money I'd just get a new ps pulley. Cheap form a scrappy. They do look nice but won't look like that for long under the bonnet. Gavin

I had no problems buying these panels in RHD format when I was working in Germany. They had loads. I reckon that any VW dealer could get one, if they really wanted. Most parts blokes won't put themselves out for you. They think its obsolete because it is not on the latest ETKA. If you have the numbe,r then I think you could get one. I used to pay less than 10 quid for them in Germany. Gavin

Baz, Have you checked the wiring out? Probably easier to swap in another set of clocks. Or get the temp gauge replaced with a secondhand one. Gavin

Blair, although some of the std fit alarms were cat 1. I personally would budget for getting a new one fitted. Or at the very least an approved immobiliser. I could help you out with either if you are up North. Gavin

Swinging idle speed is often due to the ISV being in need of a clean out. Take it off and squirt some carbcleaner down it. Give it a couple of goes til the carbcleaner comes out clear. Then I squirt WD40 or some other light oil in, just for the hell of it. You should remove the idle screw and make sure that is not covered in oil residue. Clean it and re-fit. Need to check idle setting, see below. You should also make sure that the throttle cable is not too tight, this can prevent the ECU from knowing the throttle is closed and confusing it. Lastly you you should try giving it a quick basic setup. Disconnect the blue temp plug, then set the idle with the screw. Re-connect the plug.. Gavin

Come on Dave and you a computer professional too? Gavin

You could try a fella in Warrington. Portformance 01925 724278. Ian Birch has used him in the past if you think he needs any endorsing. Gavin

Beavis, I'll get you that 747 Fuel pump at the weekend. What do you think it's worth?? Have a look on http://www.reallybigcheapfuelpumps.com and pick the one you want. Gavin PS cash will be fine.

Gutless under 3k could be the pipe to the ECU being too short. Check and replace it if need be. It needs to be exactly a metre long. There should be quite a bit looped under the cover but that is normal. Gavin
-
Check the pipe from the throttle body to the ECU too. It needs to be a metre long and not have any holes in it. Like Henny says, the Dissys are common problems on G60 for some reason but it is EXACTLY the same as the one on a Digifant GTI, so there is no need to pay extra for a G60 one!! Gavin

Got a G60 head gasket from the dealers for £28! £40 is probably for a headset. I got a G60 headgasket from GSF and paid 19 plus VAT. A pukka metal one, to replace the ordinary one some cheapskate German fitted, before I bought the car. I do have to say I think the compression ratio was reduced as it didn't feel so nippy afterwards, even with the head being skimmed. Gavin

I think they mount them under the front blower. Gavin

H100VW, so your saying when you have your diped beam on, your side lights are not on??? :? No mate, it's like Stormseeker says. It was a poor attempt to prevent the clowns who drive in the dead of night. with just their sidelights on. Not that it worked. If you don't disconnect the resistor with one of my looms, then you would never truely see the sidelights on their own. A potential problem come MOT time. Gavin
-
Del, previously with the dim dip resistor connected, the lights would get brighter when goiing onto the second click. With the loom fitted and the resistor disconnected, you would only get the sidelights on the first click. These are 5 watts and only 10% of the standard H4s. Gavin

Doesn't the water pump pulley on 16 Valves have a calibrated slip to it. As the engine heats up the slippage stops and the pump gets full drive. This aids a quick warm up. Its a kind of bimettalic thing. Gavin
-
Hmmmmm I wonder if there is a market for a loom to power the fogs? Gavin
-
Have a think about how much larger that is as a percentage. Supposing the pulley were 100mm in diameter, a 3mm increase would only be 3%. I think that wouldn't amount to much of an increase in boost. Gavin

Well I'll be. Learn something new everyday! Gavin

build your own chargers ,,not alot to them ,,,i took mine apart and asked jabba to sell me the bits to do it ,,and they said no !!! as when u send away will u get yours back ??? ended up putting it together and sending it to jabba :( they wrote http://www.jabba.com every where    you could SEE !!!! for what the parts cost now ,,and if you want it done right !!!! do it your self very little to it !!,,,, putting this aside ,,as for your cars charger go bang  turbo it mate ,,will work cheaper ,,i would  When I sent mine to Jabba, I marked the casings. At least they came back to me. They said the displacer wouldn't have lasted too much longer. I could see that myself when I did the job again this time last year. The bearing behind the pulley was $hagged. I put it down to the tensioner cap overtightening the belt. I would encourage anyone with a cap to get another tensioner and put up with a bit of slippage rather than damage teh charger. Gavin
