Sonicriot - Thanks but I'll lose too much money on my 18 month old TT. It will be interesting to see whether any customers will flash the cash and order cars circa £35k.

Ummm...just specc'd mine up and it comes to £40k.

All this debate about Storm badges got me thinking about unusual re-lettering I've seen on cars. Best ones I've seen on cars were Mk4 Golf GT TDI (150 bhp) model where on the back it was WOLF as opposed to GOLF. Also I've seen a VW Touareg rebadged as OUTRAGE. Btw - Corrado Storm can become DOCTOR OR ARMS :cuckoo: OK so I won't be putting that on the car.

Bristol? Almost thought it was one of these - check out the price  http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/198783.htm

VR6 Storm Classic Green - back on the road
Bullfinch replied to Bullfinch's topic in Members Gallery
Well, the first 4 months of ownership have flown by. I've definitely experienced at first hand the slippery slope of Corrado ownership in terms of ongoing maintenance costs. Even trying to maintain as standard (or factory fresh as I prefer to call it) all adds up. I'm not really complaining and I've convinced myself the cost is no different to normal depreciation on a new car, albeit we're talking real cash with maintenance. My car along with many more impressive motors is featured on the DG Autotech website. http://www.dgautotech.com/dgauto/index. ... &Itemid=90 With the front suspension all rebuilt next up is some minor bodywork repairs to fix some rust spots before the onset of winter. This weekend will see me reach for the spanner and look to fix my replacement aerial rubber seal - things like the Wiki make a hell of a difference as at least I have some pictures to work from. -
whats a corrado like to drive compared to a 79 golf gti?
Bullfinch replied to anndy's topic in General Car Chat
VR6 it is then but make sure to get an insurance quote first. It's Group 18 so isn't cheap. -
Were these direct competitors back in the 1990's? Anyone ever owned or driven an S2, if so how does it compare to a VR6? I'm more than happy with my VR but do sometimes look on pistonheads and see prices of S2's are getting down below £5k.

My Corrado's got some small-ish 50p size rust spots on front offside wheel arch. I'll try and take pictures this weekend and post. Anyway I take it along to a local bodyshop specialist and they claim some remedial work has already been done in the past and the rust is coming through from the inside. Their suggestion is to buy a new wing to solve the problem. Sounds a bit drastic (and costly) to me. Any owners had similar problems and found a more cost effective solution? PS: Cost of new wing sourced from VW was £240 - does this sound about right?

It's now for sale on pistonheads. That was a short ownership  http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1272728.htm

Forgot to add that my 16v J67 ODU last tax due date was 1997...not surprised considering it was stolen outside my house in Putney. I kept the drivers door handle as a momento for ages :(

Wow my Blackberry VR6 I part ex'd in 1999 at 70,000 miles is still going strong. Reg No. L678 VRL.

I've been quoted £56.75 for a set of VW Corrado mats from my local dealer. I think I may use Justmatz instead as their range starts from a much lower price and they claim the quality is just as good as OE mats. However there is a catch if you want Beige this only comes from their Deluxe range and they cost £75. Lets hope the quality of those mats is equivalent to a deep shag pile carpet :D

Any update on how the repairs went?

That Storm's been on sale for the last 4 months. I went up to TCS when the guy had a Classic Green Storm for sale and I soon walked away. Caveat emptor
-
VR6 - I secretly agree. I prefer Speedlines. However on the subject of alloys I did make sure my daily driver car (Audi Mk2 TT) was spec'd with 18 inch Turbine alloys. Hence happy to pootle around in the Storm on original BBS.
-
There's a full blown guide to Storms in the Exterior section. Many of the items Storms came with as standard such as heated leather seats, CD player etc could be spec'd as options on a standard VR6. Mystic blue was a colour unique to Storms whereas Classic Green wasn't. The BBS alloys were unique to Storms also. I own one because I wanted to (had an original brochure since 1995) but to be honest you pays your money you takes your choice. Corrados are getting to the age where the mantra is condition, condition, condition.

The actual reason why I had creaking noises was due to the CV boot on the offside track rod end having split and therefore all the grease had vanished/dried up causing the joint to rub metal on metal. The attached photos show both track rods - the offside completely dried up and the nearside one still with some grease.
-
All done and dusted. Picked the car up yesterday and it's really tight and composed. Brings back those memories of the 90's when I first had a Corrado and it literally felt like it ran on rails. Dave and Graham have done a great job.
-
I'm picking it up tomorrow. If you look tonight on the CCGB Corrado webcam it looks like my car's the star  Obviously the proof will be in the driving but I can tell you what's been fitted - new track rod ends, ball joints, and R32 wishbone bushes. It appears the car's never needed to be taken apart in 14 years so getting the wishbone bolts out was interesting. At the same time I had the auxillary belt and tensioner changed as they were starting to get noisy. Lets hope that's the end of the work for 2009.
-
Well my car's now at DG getting fixed. Dave is great at keeping me up to date even if the photos resemble a Dear Deirdre photo casebook :D Like you I'm no mechanic but I'm certainly getting a crash course in bushes, track rods, CV joints. Once all done I'll list out the work. Certainly it's a bit more involved than just the Lupo wiper upgrade I've done so far.

I had my new windscreen fitted on Friday by Autoglass (stone chip had led to a 3 inch crack on passengers side). This was the original windscreen so did well to last 14 yrs. When removed there was no sign of rust at all (thanks 2 previous owners for taking good care of car 8) ). When putting in the new windscreen he used a new rubber inner seal but it's the old outer seal which was put back in place (from what I can see). The other good thing was I had my Lupo replacement arms and wipers fitted at the same time but since the whole weekend was sunny in Berkshire I haven't had a chance to use them in the rain. Doubt this will be the case for very long!
-
V-Dubstar - have you bought the parts and had them fitted. If so is the problem now fixed? I think I have the same problem with my '95 Storm. Had new top mounts fitted but still lots of steering related creaking noise when turning at low/nil speed on the driveway. By replacing these parts will the on the road driving experience be improved as well? Just trying to convince myself another £300 plus bill is worth it.

VR6 Storm Classic Green - back on the road
Bullfinch replied to Bullfinch's topic in Members Gallery
Well the slippery slope of spending has begun. To date it's had a major service, new top mounts (no more grinding while parking now), new VW brake pads, wheel bearing fixed, ABS sensor fault fixed. Read with interest the TT wiper thread but have just placed my order for all the VW Lupo wiper parts. Tried my hand at claying, so far just done the bonnet and looks good. -
I saw those Fairydust stickers on a Ford Fusion the other day. The young lady owner had also coloured some of the external trim pink as well. Perhaps some pink trimmings might offset the steel grey colour on this 'rado. :camp:

Mercedes CLS for me, especially an AMG one.
