VR6 Storm Classic Green - back on the road
Bullfinch replied to Bullfinch's topic in Members Gallery
I picked my car up exactly 1 year ago today. In that time I've done more miles than expected (4,000+) and probably spent more money than expected on maintenance and upgrades. Now which of those would I have predicted a year ago  . I went to Stoner today and parked up in the main field next to a nice looking LHD VR6 which was up for sale. NEW CORRADO FORUM INSURANCE SCHEME VIA CHRIS KNOTT INSURANCE
Bullfinch replied to ChrisKnottIns's topic in Insurance
Just phoned Chris Knott and got a pretty decent quote. £310 for a limited mileage policy on my Storm - I have 10 years NCB and I'm nearer 40 than 30 :( . Dealt with a lady called Kim who was most professional. I'll think about it over the weekend but may well switch from Esure (their quote is £293) - I can imagine Michael Winner muttering "Calm down dear". £17 more expensive but hey I saved around £200 today phoning up Edf Energy and switching onto their cheaper online saver tariff from the standard dual fuel discount - it always pays to shop around 8) . -

Bullfinch replied to nemesis360's topic in Suppliers Forum
It was a great day out. There were lots of impressive cars and I'm no longer Juan Carlos since I picked up my Storm after the chains, tensioners etc work and the drive back down the M40 was so smooth 8) . Well done D&G  -

Here's some photos showing the chains, tensioners and clutch work being done at DG.stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfDSC03987.jpg[/attachment:3u1qgsgp]Corrado92.pdfDSC03989.jpg[/attachment:3u1qgsgp]passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfDSC03991.jpg[/attachment:3u1qgsgp]climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfDSC04013.jpg[/attachment:3u1qgsgp][attachment=4] I would try and supply some meaningful comments but for a non-mechanic like me that's hard  . Dave said the top tensioner pad was saved just in time - I think that's the cracked bit in pic 4. All being well I can pick the C up this Saturday at the DG open day - it will be like winning the raffle and going home with the star prize  . -
ABS Brake pedal position sensor - DG Refurb service
Bullfinch replied to nemesis360's topic in Suppliers Forum
I reckon I was car no.2. On having a shake down run following the chains and tensioners work the ABS light came on and it was traced to a brake pedal sensor issue. Hence I've been told they fixed this. Hopefully I will find out this Saturday when I pick the car up. -

Right - job 1 was completed a couple weeks back and the alloys are now like new - very shiny and still look like OEM 8) . I'll get some pics up soon. Saturday morning I drove up to DG (116 miles in 2 hours) - A404, M40, M42, A38, A448 I think. It was a lovely sunny drive, I had to dab on the brakes around the M42 as an unmarked R32 had pulled in a 7 series viewtopic.php?f=17&t=87499&hilit=R32+police+cars. I arrived to find an impromptu Corrado meet going on - there were about 8 cars there I think. Anyway it was good to meet Swompy and Pete-Griff and get a lift in Pete's M5 to the railway station. Car is now in for the full monty - timings chains, clutch, vibratech engine mounts plus a little bit of bling - shot blast clean of engine manifold. Hopefully it will all go to plan but with Corrado work nothing ever seems that easy. As I get some piccies I'll post them up, if I can work out what they show  . -
The Mk2 Golf rear VW badge isn't an exact fit. The 2 plastic lugs at the back of the badge are much fatter than a C's. Hence you need to file these down before they slot into the C's two holes. Scarlet VR6 fitted one to her car and she says it looks fine but it does sit at slight angle. I've got the badge from the same fleabay dealer but I've yet to fit it - I just know my attempt at filing will fail :( .

It's a novel way for DG to get more work. 2 for the price of 1 I hope. 8) .

Donjon's classic green storm. Return from yorkshire...
Bullfinch replied to Donjon's topic in Members Gallery
Hope all goes well with your purchase. I test drove this car about one year ago when it was for sale at TCS. It needed lots doing then but I think the guy who did buy it then spent loads at TSR to get many of the items fixed. Welcome to Corrado ownership and good to see another Classic Green Storm on the forum  . -

OK - job no.1 is underway. Dropped the car off at the alloy wheel refurb place today. Should be ready for collection on Weds. If they turn out well I'll post some picks and a link to the company's website. I'm hoping everything goes OK after my bad luck in the grand national today. My horse refused to start. King John's Castle needs to be turned into cat food right now  -
Is the car now back home or enjoying it's Easter hols at DG?
-
I had a full suspension re-build last year up at DG - cost was around £800 but I think that included extra time to take the car apart - looked like in 14 years nothing to this degree had happened so various track rods/bolts were rusted/knackered etc. It was a lot easier putting it back together with new parts. Check out their website and click on customer cars to see quite a few Corrados (including mine 8) ). http://www.dgautotech.com/dgauto/. Both Dave and Graham own Corrados and seem to look after a fair few forum members cars - I'd drop them an e-mail to get some more details. As for garages nearer to you in Surrey you have The Phirm who are based near Basingstoke - I've never been there so don't have any views on their work.
-
Had to laugh at that photo - looks like your car's the wrong way round to mount Mincy properly  . Mind you will Mincy be impressed with your yellow bits?

Anyone got good results from such companies? I had a mousetrap style incident in my garage tonight :( . Basically I wanted to check if the freezer light was still on as it appeared there wasn't much ice in the chest freezer - anyway in order to look I have to move my long ladder which rests on the floor. I forgot that resting against the ladder was my mountain bike....hence ladder tilted slightly, bike also tilted, bike tilted some more and then bang crash as bike handlebar strikes passenger side Corrado door just above door lock :censored: . The resulting dent is pretty small but nevertheless annoying. It's not the end of the world but would be good to get it looking like new again.
-
No worries - infact I don't have an R32, my daily's a Mk2 TT 2.0TFSI. Fast enough for me. The good thing for me about the Golf R is at least it has 4WD - might need to pop into the local VW dealer and have a butchers.
-
Don't offend the R32 owners  .
-
I think so. I know it's starting with timing chains, tensioners etc and KW V1's...then it maybe a case of dealing with any nasties :gag: that are uncovered. I had the front suspension re-built last year by DG so that should be fine. When will yours be ready for collection?

MOT passed  . Bring on the 2010 upgrades. Items to do: 1 Full alloy wheel refurb 2 Timing chains, tensioners etc 3 KW V1's 4 Anything else I can justify  -
Yeah Dave did mention that to me as I want to tart my underside up when the car gets up there in April. Looking forward to seeing the photos - might need a pair of 8) these on.
-
It will be even higher in 2 weeks time with the government's 3p a litre fuel duty coming into force on 1 April.
-
You can do a remake of the Human League video for "Don't you want me" - substitute the Corrado for the Rover and away you go :luvlove: . Mind you could be a bit odd on a first date  .
-
Is a Scirocco a poor man's TT? . What have I said.....
-
DG is DG Autotech. It's a garage in Kidderminster who specialise in Corrado's - both Dave and Graham (DG) are Corrado nuts. http://www.dgautotech.com/dgauto/ As you're in Brum it doesn't seem they're too far from you - always worth a shout IMHO.
-
Looks like it's in the ICU.....the intensive Corrado unit  . I'm looking forward to seeing some picks of the car being put back together. Hope all goes OK from now on.

What mods are declarable? I've got a standard engine set-up but do have 288mm front brakes and will shortly have KW V1's. I can sympathise with the postcode lottery but if you can afford to live in central London then an extra £100 on the insurance doesn't sound too bad  .
