Oh its not slow at all. It's just that some people see it has a big engine and expect it to be radically fast. It is actually fast but just doesn't seem it because its built more for refined cruising. It doesn't make the noise of the VR6 for example but has oodles of power low down.

I've got a 5 door 4mo and really love it. It's more of a cruiser than an out and out racer and in standard form it wallows a little. The boot is also quite small due to the 4wd. However its a really lovely, comfortable car. It's quick, stable, grips very well, mine has been very reliable, and if you get the right one then it has all the toys on it... mine has heated black leather, climate, rain sensitive wipers, cruise, auto dimming mirror, headlights washes, factory updated audio, etc, etc. Admittedly mine is low mileage at 51k but it really does drive like a new car and is so comfortable and smooth. As I said, its not a sports car despite a big engine. But it has bundles of low down torque which is very usable. I test drove a mk5 R32 recently and while it was certainly a lot better I came away from the test drive realising how good the 4mo is for the price nowadays.

How much did the R32 aluminium dash kit cost? I'm thinking of changing the wood on mine.

That's just nasty.

so did the Corrado become the classic it was predicted to be
Portent replied to Portent's topic in General Car Chat
Some interesting points there. Let's take a look at the original Beetle. Is that more desirable now that a modern Beetle is available? I'd argue the opposite is the case as it has devalued the brand somewhat. I had a couple of mk1 TT's and I must admit I loved them. Really loved them. A lot :) I've even considered one now as a weekend car instead of a Corrado. You can get thm for not much more than a Corrado now. There's no doubt in my mind that it is a better car. And it will probably be a classic in the future. But I love the rarity of the Corrado and the whole 90's era memories that it brings back for me. -
Completely agree with this. Look at the original mk1 GTI which had about 112bhp(?) How much fun was that car! Look at todays modern heavyweight cars. Yes they are unbelievably powerful in comparison but all you do is point them in a direction and lean on the loud pedal. The car works out the best way to get around the corner.

But will prices rocket just due to lack of availability? With rarity comes other issues too... e.g. being able to source replacement parts. We're already seeing parts being obsoleted by VAG and in the next few years the supply of spares from the used market will be harder to find too. -
I'm sure we all know the Top Gear video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU5DcZVaUWk So did the Corrado become the classic some people thought it would be? I love these cars and seeing harryc's in a car park the other day it struck me how purposeful the car looks compared to modern cars. I've been looking for one this year and when I find the right one at the right time then I'll definitely own one. But having kept an eye on the market it seems the car goes through good patches and poor patches (I can only comment on the market this year). My question... Is the Corrado where you thought it would be? Compared to other cars of a similar era, is it as desirable as you thought it would be? e.g. take a look at the silly prices that E30 M3's are fetching (of course they are a far better car, but the prices are astronomical). Yet the Corrado doesn't yet seem to command the prices it probably should. It seems that the market is restricted to those that know what they are or have a particular reason for buying one.

Stopped by police for being too low....
Portent replied to Fulltimejunglist's topic in General Car Chat
My dad was in the police and while he didn't talk too much about his work it was clear that he dealt with the dregs of society on many an occasion. It's not surprising that they react to people being arsey. So my view has always been that being polite and courteous from the start will generally cause them to treat you ok too. If you put yourself in their position and someone is a pain in the arse the second you talk to them, then you're going to be assertive straight back. But if someone is polite and helpful from the start then you're more likely to traet them in the same manner. -
^^ I'd agree too. It sounds like you've stopped the rust problems by grinding it all back. So it's not as if that will get worse by leaving it. So I think you should get the mechanicals sorted and then respray. Otherwise you can guarantee you'll get it sprayed and the damn thing will break down when you've got no money left, or someone will bang their dorr into it in the carpark.

True. I must admit that while my wife fell in love with the house because of the garden, I fell in love with it because of the double garage with loft storage space, power, lighting, and remote door :D
-
Strange. I never had to wipe or scrape my screen through all of last winter, even when I had a foot of snow outside.
-
I highly recommend buying a garage :)

Don't have a Corrado yet but what the hell it's cheap enough to get a set in preparation... please put me down for 4 rollers (£11). -
I knew those heater matrixes were a pain in the arse to replace but surely there was an easier way to do it :confused4:

I flip flop between AA and RAC but find the RAC to be better. also I seem to recall an age limit on the cars covered on the AA. I could be wrong but I went with RAC this year due to wanting to buy a corrado.
-
Yep. I almost bought one a couple of months back. It really does suit the car.

vr6 storm... bargain or not(UPDATED 14TH OCT)
Portent replied to VR6 Lee's topic in General Car Chat
Could always phone VW and find out what history of servicing they have. That might give some clues depending on how recently it went to a dealer.
