Hi Tom, Been to the stealer on the way home from work. Its not good having one at the bottom of the road!!!!!! Placed an order for about 90 quids works of parts, OEM bushes included. Dave has been taking plenty of pics so we have something to refer to so they will go back in the right way. Am I correct in thinking that 8mm has to be sticking out? I remember reading somewhere about the potrusion? No problem about the shotblasting, managed to get the bloody thing running better! Just let me know and I'll pop over and collect the bits you need. Will probably drag Dave along as navigator......lol

Right thought I'd update this as I've been a bit busy over the last few weeks. Firstly, I took the rado off the road for the winter months as I couldn't justify having both cars on the road, or afford it. :nono: as I've come to realise, owning a corrado, means you have no money! The first job on the list was to get the wheels of, these are now sat in my folks garage along with my spare set for my Golf!... As you can imagine, my dad's not too happy. I asked my mate to show me how to take the disc and calipers off, I'm going to powder coat them silver. I was thinking Flash Red, but after doing Dave16v's last week I've changed my mind. My box of bits to do! ETKA Corrado.pdfphoto2.JPG[/attachment:r44055uy] Hopefully going to be making a start on these next week. Once I took the rear disc's off I had a good look at the axel beam. I have noticed a knocking when cornering so thought it would be a good idea to have a look at new bushes. After a bit of jiggering I (with a lot of help from a mate) managed to get the rear beam off, really struggled removing the brake lines from the bias valve as it had corroded so badly. So here are the pics of the rear beam at work. stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfP1010012.JPG[/attachment:r44055uy] Had to soak the nut and bolt in WD40 as it was so rusty. Managed to get them off with the aid of 2, 3 foot lengths of box section. Corrado92.pdfP1010011.JPG[/attachment:r44055uy] After being pointed in the right direction by Dave, I copied the special tool shown in the wiki. Sod buying one when I can make my own. These could be for sale at some point...lol The bushes came out quite easy, but I'm not sure if the cup bit needs to come out too? Any help would be great thanks. passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfP1010027.JPG[/attachment:r44055uy] The bushes are totalled, it explains the knocking! climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfP1010028.JPG[/attachment:r44055uy] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfP1010029.JPG[/attachment:r44055uy] So next job, was to get the beam in the shotblaster, I'm going to remove the spatter marks, and dress the welds up and then shotblast the beam again to remove and crap. Then spray it with etch primer of some sort (will put the name of it up when at work) and then powdercoat in flat, gloss black P1010030.JPG[/attachment:r44055uy] Got a few more bits to do before hopefully painting it on Friday.

Ask about Mocaps. (trade name for the stuff we use) These are rubber bungs or varing size which can be shoved into the holes and prevent the Powder/ Nylon powder fouling up the threads. It also comes in handy tape for for masking of machined faces, and is designed to withstand the 180 degree bake temperature. Its a bit pricey but worth it. I think the tape is bout 30-40 quid a roll. When I did my inlet and rocker cover I used loads.

For the past 6 years I've been a Laser Operator at a firm in Colwick Nottingham. We make bespoke Mortuary and Laboratory Equipment. I get to play all day with a 15 year old machine and try to keep it running, a bit like a corrado :cuckoo: It can be great fun at times as there are a some good lads that work there. Also, the fact I work with various thickness of sheet steel its handy when I need to make little parts for the car. As long as you keep the drafty sweet all's good! :notworthy: Before that I was a time served apprentice as a Spring Maker for 7 years. -
Happy Days mate!

Got fingers cross for tomorrow mate, hope you manage to find the problem soon and its not too expensive!

Just a quickie hopefully. I've taken the inlet off and therefore the injectors have had to come out. I've took the injector collars out of the inlet so I could get it all cleaned properly. When I come to put the collars back in (hopefully this weekend) do I need to wrap them first in something like PTFE tape? Or do they go straight into the inlet, metal to metal? Any help would be much apprecated. Cheers Mark

Thanks Dave, you love me really! :camp: If you need a hand in the morning give us a shout, I'll prpbably be outside shot blasting my rocker cover ready for powder coat before Len arrives. Do you think that you'll be a ble to make Tatton Park on Sunday?

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
Laser Mark replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Took the rocker cover off today ready to take to work for a bit of a clean. On the way home swung past the garage to check if the seals and gaskets I ordered last week had arrived. Parts not in yet but was given 2 gaskets for the 5th injector. Bonus! Hopefully putting it all back together on Saturday. -
Hasn't stopped people breaking in Also hasn't stopped people breaking in Sorry Dave, I know its not cheering you up. At least you got the nice softly sprung Laguna as an emergency replacement. If you need a hand just give us a ring, well a hinderance really. But being as you've got to help me put mine back together I really must offer.

Well if you look at the lap times for the frist 3 practice sessions Webber is miles quicker than anyone else. Unfortunatly Hamilton and Button are quite far behind. After practice 3 Hamilton was 1.8 seconds behind Webber

Oi, when you fitting one to my motor? :D -
I've gone some looking and haven't been able to find the answer to this question. What should the condition be on the inside of the inlet manifold? I've take both parts off and inside they are covered in what looks like a thick greasey oily residue which is a bitch to clean off? I have managed to borrow an ultrasonic tank for a week or so and both bits have been in for a good couple of hours removing some of the crud. What I want to know is should it be really clean? My concern is that its the inlet and I don't want any of the crap getting into the valves etc.... I was thinking of degreasing it some more and then shotblasting the inside to clear the remaining crap out. Then obviously giving it a good rinse to remove any particles. Would this be ok? Any help would be great thanks Mark

Just been reading though this thread but it doesn't have the answer I'm looking for. Is it possible to jack the car up in the middle of the sub frame, so lifting either the front or rear of the car level ready for axel stands. I've currently got the back end of my car up on stands and would like to do the front but don't want the car rocking excessivly on the stands or falling off. I'm thinking of jacking it dead center on the sub frame just in front of the ARB, will it be ok do that until I get the axel stands under?
-
Excellent, thanks Judith. Once I get that bit cleaned out I'll see about crimping a new spade clip on there and fitting it back onto the filler neck :D

Tried that, the cap locks shut when the car is locked. The wire seems to come from the white plastic bit.
